Anyone else now going to France?

Just wanting a quick poll on what people's thoughts are about going to France with current lockdown relaxations? - Euro tunnel, caravan 2 x hotel stop offs en route with 2 DC's .....All facilities on sites open apparently but gel, masks etc needed. Wondering will it be empty? Hard work and weird to follow rules? What would you do? x

@HoldingTight just been looking into this and if you don't stop you don't have to quarantine so if you drive through a bit of France from elsewhere and go on the Eurotunnel you won't have to.

Anyone else now going to France?
fartyface · 15/08/2020 12:53

We are just following others @pontypridd if others wear them then we do.

Downthegarden · 15/08/2020 13:11

There's some information on masks here Pontypridd (my mum was from there btw!).

www.thelocal.fr/20200803/map-where-in-france-is-it-compulsory-to-wear-a-mask-in-the-street

That was updated yesterday. Re where you have wear one for outdoor markets etc, the best things is to Google the département you're staying in for more info. We are in a low risk area, and that rule has just been brought in for us, but tbh 90% if possible were wearing masks at the market this week before it was compulsory.

pontypridd · 15/08/2020 13:28

Are you allowed to swim in lakes/rivers? @Downthegarden?

That’s what we usually do. We’re hoping to stay active ie cycle, walk, swim in quiet places.

But usually we swim in water that is quiet but also lifeguarded. They seem to be all over France. Are they still open?

hoistbymyownzombiepetard · 15/08/2020 14:08

@pontypridd

The swimming lakes/rivers near us are all open as usual (SW France - Tarn et Garonne).

Fink · 15/08/2020 14:13

Are the outdoor areas where you have to wear a mask all marked? If there's signs in the streets we'll be fine, but I don't want to be tiptoeing around worrying I'm in a masked area and there's no way to know!

MinnieMousse · 15/08/2020 14:25

Not sure if it's the same everywhere, but when we were in France a couple of weeks ago, we stopped in Le Touquet. You had to wear masks in the central shopping area of the town but not elsewhere and there were lots of signs up to show where you had to have a mask on.

MinnieMousse · 15/08/2020 14:27

I would add that the majority of people were wearing them outdoors in other streets outside the compulsory zone anyway, although not on the beach.

Downthegarden · 15/08/2020 16:13

Our local lake is open as normal. I haven't seen any signs telling people to wear masks outdoors, but then most people have been doing it anyway. Things are changing day by day, so what was happening 2 weeks ago probably isn't relevant now.

Thepastcatchesupwithyou · 15/08/2020 18:51

Just heard on radio 4 they heard that the French government are going impose quarantune next week. Is there a day they make announcements ? Is it worth trying to move to earlier ferry ?

meowcatmeow · 15/08/2020 19:16

3310 new cases in France today.

LaChatte · 15/08/2020 19:39

There are maps online with the areas where you must wear masks, if you google something like "name of town + zone + masque" you should fine the relevant info.

LaChatte · 15/08/2020 19:44

Number of cases really going up quite quickly again, and it's still not that easy to get tested. My Dr wrote me a prescription to get tested because my temp keeps being too high in the evenings (I got turned away from several places with the thermal cameras checking people), but the local labs won't test me because I dont have any symptoms, and during the testing hours (mornings), my temperature is normal.

www.telegraph.co.uk/news/2020/08/15/scores-british-holidaymakers-still-travelling-france-despite/

I can't read this unfortunately, as am not a subscriber. But the headline is interesting.

pontypridd · 15/08/2020 23:47

I can read the article now. It says: France will impose a “reciprocal” quarantine on travellers from the UK, expected to be announced on Sunday or Monday, government sources said.

SummerNamechangeHappened · 16/08/2020 08:24

Arrrgh we are due to be in France at the weekend. REALLY hope they don't impose a reciprocal quarantine! 😳

LaChatte · 16/08/2020 08:49

It's so bloody childish of them if they do.

pontypridd · 16/08/2020 09:13

We are due to go at the beginning of this week.

France must have more tourist from the U.K. (many still willing to go) than the other way round.

It would hurt France more surely if they introduced a reciprocal quarantine.

SummerNamechangeHappened · 16/08/2020 10:04

@pontypridd that's what I'm hoping!! 🤞🤞🤞

KoalasandRabbit · 16/08/2020 12:16

I think France have said they are imposing a recripocal quarantine on anyone who imposes it on them - they seem to have appointed a 5 year old incharge of policy. Grin Sometimes French quarantines are Dominic Cummings voluntary style ones.

KoalasandRabbit · 16/08/2020 12:17

We stuck with UK this year when Asia trip was cancelled but all Dhs family are in France.

notimagain · 16/08/2020 13:03

It's so bloody childish of them if they do.

TBH until the metrics/protocols on both sides of the channel match I can understand the French POV.

Certainly having witnessed social distancing/mask wearing out and about both in the UK and France recently I can see no reason why the UK stats aren't also going to start deteriorating over the next few weeks so maybe the French are getting ahead of the game..looks like they've got enough on their plates at the moment without importing extra cases from the UK...

Anyhow last time around at least the French declared their quarantine as being voluntary, they didn't pretend otherwiseSmile

SummerNamechangeHappened · 16/08/2020 13:14

How would they police it?
Even harder than in UK as France is so huge.

Boredbumhead · 16/08/2020 13:43

I'm due to go to France 5th September. If this quarantine both sides happens would I get my money back from Eurocamp or would they say I technically could travel?

Thepastcatchesupwithyou · 16/08/2020 14:25

So if its voluntary quarantine whats everyone's plans ? Will you still go and stay to yourselves as much as possible? I think we may do this, we are self contained anyway.
