Anyone else now going to France?

Just wanting a quick poll on what people's thoughts are about going to France with current lockdown relaxations? - Euro tunnel, caravan 2 x hotel stop offs en route with 2 DC's .....All facilities on sites open apparently but gel, masks etc needed. Wondering will it be empty? Hard work and weird to follow rules? What would you do? x

@stringbean if the policy/tcs&cs don’t mention about not covering for travelling against fco advice I don’t think they can just decide they don’t want to? That sound sound right. If there’s no mention of it on the paperwork then that is the contract of insurance? Not sure if I’m just clutching at straws here.

That's what I thought. If you've literally read all the small print and assuming you've interpreted it correctly, they can't just add in a clause. That said, I'd be surprised if there wasn't something included about 'unforeseen incidents' and them reserving the right to remove cover.

Also on the edge of my seat as travelling tomorrow morning but I saw this which was reassuring... clutching at straws maybe

Bad news I’m afraid. Looks like the fco announced restrictions immediately last Thursday evening re Belgium etc. So the fco restrictions came into force before the quarantine began.

Zippyswife, was thinking about this last night (having had v little sleep) and I think the 4am deadline for England re: Belgium must have applied to both quarantine and the FCO position. They can't expect everyone to have seen the news or social media announcements the minute it's released so surely that's why they issue those timed deadlines?
zippyswife · 12/08/2020 07:20

@blinkboo well I’m happy to share your straws to clutch at. Yesterday’s figures for France were only 10% over UK figures- that particular bbc article really irritated me. So I’m glad to see that link of yours. BBC seems to be peddling this at the minute- It’s as if they are trying to galvanise public opinion to put pressure on for restrictions for France.

@loveisagirlnameddaisy sorry to hear you didn’t sleep. I was the same. And I agree they can’t expect people to be checking fco up until they depart.

clara10 · 12/08/2020 08:10

This thread is so useful. Thank you all for updating. I’m checking this more than the news! We are due to go to France on Saturday (booked early dec 19) and paid a French company so no cancellation refund. I’m really struggling with the pre-holiday prep. Just waiting for midnight Thursday. If no announcement I guess we are going?

loveisagirlnameddaisy · 12/08/2020 08:23

@clara10 this is what I find so difficult. We're going first thing Friday morning so tomorrow is my packing/prep day. If it's all for nothing, it's so frustrating.

And I have two countries to obsess over as we're going through France to the Netherlands!

loveisagirlnameddaisy · 12/08/2020 08:24

@zippyswife It's impossible to find anything on the internet which clarifies if FCO advice is immediate or the same as the quarantine deadline. They just seem to assume that the only people affected are those out there already and everyone else will just not go on holiday if they haven't left already.

fartyface · 12/08/2020 08:30

I feel for you all trying to get over. If you do, it will be worth it for sure.

Re cancellation I think campsites/gites have to give you a voucher or refund, I think the french government have mandated it. I can't back it up with a link but have seen it elsewhere on mumsnet (source of all info!) so worth a look

bakingbernie · 12/08/2020 08:31

This shows that UK tests almost twice the number of people than France. It is likely, if you test more, you will find more cases. There was a report last week that many testing centres in Paris had gone on holiday. It is possible there are more cases than are reflected by the daily numbers published. So, maybe UK appears to have more cases, but they are testing more and more cases ARE present in France but not being tested. All very confusing.

bakingbernie · 12/08/2020 08:33

For some reason my chart is not showing.
Sorry!

BringBackDoves · 12/08/2020 17:55

Has anyone seen today’s data yet? I wonder when we can expect a decision Sad

zippyswife · 12/08/2020 17:57

I’m not sure it’s out yet? I haven’t checked. I’ve lost track of where it’s announced. I’m just packing for tomorrow but wondering if I should be.

meowcatmeow · 12/08/2020 18:15

2524 new cases in France in the past 24 hours

www.santepubliquefrance.fr/dossiers/coronavirus-covid-19/coronavirus-chiffres-cles-et-evolution-de-la-covid-19-en-france-et-dans-le-monde

We cancelled our holiday to France last week, we were meant to leave two days ago. I'm sad not to be going but couldn't take the risk of local lockdowns or quarantine on return.

zippyswife · 12/08/2020 18:17

Crap that numbers not good

cakeinmyfacehole · 12/08/2020 18:51

It doesn't look good does it. We are due to go early Monday. The cynic in me is wondering what day the Government need to bury some bad news... A-Level results day possibly?

carlyfrench · 12/08/2020 19:03

I really hope we get some clarity tomorrow. There is a ridiculous amount to organise either way. I'm not packing or booking airport car park until very last minute.

meowcatmeow · 12/08/2020 19:13

I think it will be announced tomorrow to detract from the fall out of the A-Level results

stringbean · 12/08/2020 19:24

Bollocks! We're due to leave this time tomorrow - our friends are on their way to the ferry as I type, so will get across the channel in the early hours of tomorrow. Can't believe we could have to dump our plans within 24 hours of starting the holiday

You never know, you might make it. I saw a tweet comparing Spain and France saying from a similar number of case it was then 4 days before Spain came off the list. Tweet was today so assuming a lot (cases track similarly, the government is sane and rational) it might be Sunday and you might make it there. Although that won't help my packing and re-planning Hmm

Today I wrote our work policy for quarantining... with me as first potential Guinea pig.. Grin

Can you work from home? I’m lucky that I could but the kids would end up missing school.
carlyfrench · 12/08/2020 20:14

Yes I can work from home (lovely, understanding boss who will likely find this amusing) and the dcs have a clear 2 weeks before school as we're only planning a short trip.

It would be a total pain in other ways though. We have an air bnb business that I've had to line up standby external help with as if we're quarantined we won't be able to go near it.
