Just wanting a quick poll on what people's thoughts are about going to France with current lockdown relaxations? - Euro tunnel, caravan 2 x hotel stop offs en route with 2 DC's .....All facilities on sites open apparently but gel, masks etc needed. Wondering will it be empty? Hard work and weird to follow rules? What would you do? x

We are going to France. Ferry, stop overs en route, 2 weeks mobile home. Looking forward to it!

I really don't think it will empty.

albicocca · 19/07/2020 23:05

Will be empty.

ScottishBadger · 19/07/2020 23:06

Not empty. Husband working in France. Huge cues for supermarkets. Everywhere rammed. French school hols now

ScottishBadger · 19/07/2020 23:06

Queues. I need sleep

Ridingthecrestofawave · 20/07/2020 07:15

Thanks. When are the French kids back at school? It's the last 2 weeks we're going. Are museums open? Queues for supermarkets then? Hmmmm....

Everything but nightclubs open. Busy as ever, more so at the beach and rivers as swimming pools have limited capacity. Schools go back on 1st of September.

LaChatte · 20/07/2020 07:21

Also masks compulsory in all closed spaces open to the public, some towns have also imposed masks outside in town centres and parks. 135€ fine for not wearing one.

mynameiscalypso · 20/07/2020 07:21

We're off today albeit flying. Our flight is fully booked. Some friends were there last week and said everywhere was very busy as it is normally at this time of year

BoogleMcGroogle · 20/07/2020 07:30

We are heading off in the middle of August.
Will be up in the mountains in our chalet so won't be any bother to anyone. There are only really outdoor activities to do anyway, so nothing can be too limited. Masks need to be worn if heading up the mountain in the telecabine, and of course in supermarkets ( which is the best French outing of all) but apparently life is tres normale.

Can anyone let me know about French hotel breakfast arrangements? If my stopover breakfast buffet is somehow compromised, I'm going to need a great deal of psychological preparation...

Do children need masks?

We are going. Eurotunnel caravan 2 campsites one week each, 2 overnights. CANNOT wait.

CrumpetsAndPuzzles · 20/07/2020 07:58

Masks are not compulsory for children.

fedup2017 · 20/07/2020 08:03

We are going on Wednesday.
Can't wait.
I've made fabric masks for all the family but only need in shops and the like for adults. Our youngest is six and he likes wearing a mask so no problems there.
We've deliberately booked quieter sites with access to big beaches/ the river in case there are limits on pool numbers.
So excited!!!!

LaChatte · 20/07/2020 12:45

Masks compulsory from 11+.

LaChatte · 20/07/2020 12:54

(Info available on the French government website).

fartyface · 20/07/2020 18:09

Merci lachatte

We've moved everything to next year - too many restaurants in France where social distacning isn't happening. I want my holiday to be relaxing.

LaChatte · 20/07/2020 20:18

I went into a big town this afternoon, it was pretty horrible, really crowded, noone wearing masks in the street despite being in very close proximity to each other, and in shops people reaching over you to get to stuff because of a false sense of security due to the masks. Shop staff really uncomfortable as having to wear masks all day (it's hot down south, nothing unusual for this time of year, but wearing a mask for more than 5 minutes is almost unbearable, and I say that as someone who was back at work mid May having to wear a mask for hours on end), and constantly having to remind people they have to keep their masks on inside. I felt really sorry for them.

Ridingthecrestofawave · 20/07/2020 21:44

Ooh dear. That doesn't sound fun La Chatte. Ferry ang tunnel prices are astronomical too. We'd booked all other parts but not that bit! Roll on 2021

We're going to Brittany mid August - booked last Sept, pretty much as soon as we got back from last summer's. Renting a gite, driving through tunnel. Would hope to be able to use the odd restaurant but it won't spoil the holiday if things change and we have to self cater throughout.

I know masks aren't required for children under 11 in France (at the moment), same as here, but does anyone know if younger ones they're tending to wear them?

I'm fairly confident that the actual wearing of a mask will be pointless for my kids due to involuntary face touching, so it's more so DD8 wouldn't feel conspicuous if French kids wearing them, esp indoors eg supermarkets, is 'normal'. Suspect DS5 would be oblivious.

WelshMoth · 22/07/2020 19:09

Is the R number in Brittany starting to creep up?

Bandol · 22/07/2020 22:11

@smogsville I live in France. Where I’ve been there are lots of kids not wearing masks (mine don’t) so in my experience no pressure.

smogsville · 22/07/2020 22:18

@WelshMoth yes it is. Although there seems to be some question over whether this is because testing has been ramped out.

@Bandol thanks. Good to know.

smogsville · 22/07/2020 22:18

Up, not out!

Ridingthecrestofawave · 23/07/2020 08:56

Are museums open? Are there queues for supermarkets?

OP posts:
LaChatte · 23/07/2020 09:27

Most museums open, although some need pre-booking as number of entries limited. Supermarkets allowing unlimited number of customers in, so no queuing outside. Only queues outside shops I've seen are for small shops.
