Went on Monday with my 20 month old..
It has everything! Under 3's are free and 14 quid for adults seems pricey, but it is well worth it..
Would definitely recommend it.

Isn't it cool - we are members, so we go lots of times & we still love it
Although I still haven't managed to go into the Bat Cave yet.......I hate the little flappers

tumble4 · 25/09/2007 21:52

oh...the bat cave was ace!!!
some of them are huge though, look like dracula lurking up there in the dark some how! Hahaha!
I thought the orang-u-tans were fab, and the chimps, and the marmot tunnel which you can stick your head up in...and...and...and i think i enjoyed it a little bit more than my kid by the sounds....tee hee!
i want to adopt one of those poisonous little frogs too...they were cool. don't want to touch it though....hahah...

LOL did you get your face painted too

EmsMum · 25/09/2007 21:59

It is good. Last year generous MIL wanted to know what she could give DD for birthday... frankly she has enough 'stuff' so we asked for membership for the year. Was nice to be able to go on a whim and not feel you had to do everything.

Bat cave is brill!

Also... membership has reciprocal arrangements with other zoos including Bristol (which handily is near where MIL lives.) Thats nice too... quite small, so they don't have everything but what they do have they do well. Particularly good nocturnal house where the animals are actually awake and visible !

GodzillasBumcheek · 25/09/2007 22:01

I agree. Chester Zoo is fab. That is how animals should be in zoos, so far from the concrete cages you sometimes hear about.

tumble4 · 25/09/2007 22:03

No i didn't..maybe next time...!!
might try and steal a meerkat next time too..haha!

OMFG, the bat cave. I have a HUGE fear of anything that flaps, especially when it's in a confined space, so DH usually does the bat cave as ds1 adores it. I made the mistake of taking the dcs on my own last week and, of course, the first place ds1 asked to go was through the bats.........

Cue me, with cardy draped over my head, bent double over the buggy, trying to go through as fast as I possibly could while ds1 dawdles along pointing out big ones. Until we got to the low bit of cave and one flapped about an inch from my head and I freaked and sprinted out of there . Poor ds1 was desperate to go back through but it just wasn't happening!

Agree though, it's a fantastic zoo, especially midweek when it's quieter. I love the orangs and chimps and the dcs love the elephants (and bats!). Definitely worth visit.

Whizz and tumble4, are you local to Chester then?

Olihan · 25/09/2007 22:06

Emsmum, our membership is for Bristol, as that's where we used to live, and my mum gave it to us for Xmas last year - best present, ever. I loved Bristol for its compactness but there's so much more to see at Chester.

Godzilla, are you in this neck of the woods then? How's dd3? Haven't seen you over on PN for a while!

tumble4 · 25/09/2007 22:07

not really, i live near the west mids safari park, but spent the weekend in prestatyn so went on the way home.
and i doubt you would get hit by a bat..they have good sonar you know! I learnt that at the zoo, don't you know! tee hee!

OP posts:
Olihan · 25/09/2007 22:09

TBH, I don't care about the friggin' sonar, it's the big flappy wings that worry me, I swear one skimmed my head .

tumble4 · 25/09/2007 22:10

hahahah....funny though as i hate birds and their flapping...

OP posts:
tumble4 · 25/09/2007 22:10

bats are much cuter..

OP posts:
Olihan · 25/09/2007 22:13

Anything with wings gets me. I don't mind looking at them as long as they are not free to flap near me .

PeachesMcLean · 25/09/2007 22:14

Batcave is fab isn't it. But don't peel a banana in there to pacify any DCs insisting they're starving. Seriously flappy bats whizzing around your head!!!

Olihan · 25/09/2007 22:16
tumble4 · 25/09/2007 22:17

oohhh and they would be those massive fruit bats too....olihan would have a heart attack...bigger than vultures they are!
nearly...hahah....

GodzillasBumcheek · 25/09/2007 22:17

Nowhere near Chester unfortunately - would love to be, but no. My brother lives near there and he took me and the dtds.
Haven't looked at the PN thread for ages - haven't been able to think of sane things to post when people have had problems . I am far too self-centred.

Olihan · 25/09/2007 22:36

tumble, do you like to shout 'bang' behind people who are scared of balloons too ?

GBC, I'm a bit rubbish at that too plus I tend to forget what everyone else has written pretty much instantaneously . Pop in and say hi sometime, though!

tumble4 · 25/09/2007 22:39

sorry! oh no..dont pop balloons, can't stand them!

OP posts:
GodzillasBumcheek · 25/09/2007 22:44

BANG

GodzillasBumcheek · 25/09/2007 22:44
Grin
Olihan · 25/09/2007 22:46

Beaten to it by Godzilla!

EmsMum · 25/09/2007 22:49

Only the cutesy little bats whizz around the low bit. The big ones stay higher up.

If you want to see proper fruitbats which are active in daylight, and live further north, funny little place called the Lakeland wildlife oasis. (on A6 a bit up from Carnforth). Good for snake and reptile handling too, (since theres obviously no-one on this thread with any animal phobias ).

tumble4 · 25/09/2007 22:49

oh how very cruel...!!! hahah!
