I google and can't find any conclusive information.
I keep hearing the border will be shut yet I hear of people entering Scotland. Does that mean they get sent back?
I've been isolating, it would be just me travelling. To visit one person, who has also been isolating 100% alone . However I've just been back at work for a few days , with social distancing in place.
Obviously I'm not going to go now if it's illegal. I just can't find definite information.
I'm not sure what the method of transport would be either.. I'll look into that only if I know I can legally enter Scotland. (I won't be driving though) I wouldn't be visiting any shops and would just be in and around the person's home

How far is your journey?
We arent allowed people in the house/to stay over
Even using the toilet is cautioned against

OnlyJudyCanJudgeMe · 07/06/2020 07:50

You’re only supposed to travel within 5 miles of your home (here in Scotland anyway) and we’re not allowed into someone else’s house. So, I would say no, not yet, sorry.

sparkle17 · 07/06/2020 08:45

Under current Scottish government regulations that would not be allowed. The next review is on 18th June I think

TeacupDrama · 07/06/2020 08:50

You are allowed to travel further than 5miles to see friends and family the 5mile rule is for leisure and exercise, but you can't stay overnight but if you live in Carlisle and your friend lives in Moffat then you can drive meet outside and drive home, but if you're I. Birmingham and friend is in Stirling then there is no way you can drive there and back in one day

Mrsjayy · 07/06/2020 08:52

Well it depends why you are coming really care for a relative then yes a weekend getaway then probably not.

ssd · 07/06/2020 17:11

No, we can only travel in a 5 mile zone.

ssd · 07/06/2020 17:12

Unless your Dominic Cummings and you need to drive to test your eyesight?
That's be fine then

mylittlesandwich · 07/06/2020 17:18

The 5 mile is encouraged but it's not illegal to go further. I drove 30 miles at the start of the week to spend time with my sister in her local park. This was fine. If you're going a short-ish distance and meeting up outside it would be ok. remember you won't be able to use your friends loo and most public toilets aren't open.

sleepyhead · 07/06/2020 17:23

The test basically is can you manage it without entering their (or anyone else's) house either to sleep, use the toilet or for any other purpose?

So no, I doubt it unless you both live close to the border.

Essexgirlupnorth · 07/06/2020 17:28

We drove from England to Scotland last Tuesday for my Grandma's funeral and weren't pulled over. We did have a valid reason to be there but did have to drive there and back same day as nowhere to stay. If we hadn't gone there would have been nobody at the funeral as no immediate family left in Scotland and as she was in a care home we couldn't see her before she died (not of covid) so there was no way I was missing the funeral.
However going to visit someone is a different matter and isn't currently allowed. I don't know what happens if you did get stopped though.

mrs2468 · 07/06/2020 17:38

The 5 miles is for leisure and exercise and it’s guidance not law. You can travel further to see people

Mightymurphy · 07/06/2020 17:38

The 5 mile thing is a load of crap. Whoever thought it up is off their rocker. As an example, my nearest supermarket is 7 miles away. The DC school is 8. Dr is also 8. Bank 7.

Mrsjayy · 07/06/2020 18:05

The 5 mile thing is to prevent people from going to portobello or Loch lomond for a day out not that it stopped anybody last weekend ,it isn't to stop us from visiting friends or going to Tesco but it is so bloody vague.

Essexgirlupnorth · 07/06/2020 18:42

It seems really hard to police though went we went up there was a massive queue for the McDonald's that had just reopened

BigGee · 07/06/2020 18:48

Nope. Not unless the guidelines change.

hilbil21 · 07/06/2020 19:22

To flip it slightly, how likely do you think it would be to make it from Scotland to the south east of England without getting caught Grin

Mrsjayy · 07/06/2020 20:48

We were talking about this yesterday could Scots sneak into England just casually mingle go to IKEA and come home Grin

Elieza · 07/06/2020 21:09

You are currently only allowed to meet someone outside keeping the 2m physical distancing rules in Scotland.

Even if you did get here ok you therefore can’t stay overnight or go indoors to use the toilet or go indoors to get out if the rain or storms or midges etc. Unless you are delivering care.

See what the latest announcement is on Thursday 18th, same day as England. We are expecting to move to phase two at some point, and if we do I think that’s meeting friends or relatives indoors. So you might be ok but I don’t know about staying overnight or toilet use, that may still not be allowed.

Jingstohang · 07/06/2020 21:12

There is no physical border. You can cross it but you probably shouldnt.

FulfilledRemit · 07/06/2020 21:12

The border isn't shut, some people work on one side and live on the other.

But, as PPs have said, unless you can get here and back in a day and only meet outside, it's not allowed.

alltoomuchrightnow · 07/06/2020 22:53

My friends in Scotland travel more than 5 miles to get to shops, the ones that live remotely.
However, I'd be coming from lower Midlands to Scotland , so, some way. Not top of Scotland, but still some way
So I'm guessing I won't be going now

You're 5 hours from me and I'm pretty central in Scotland. Only you know if you can make the journey and adhere to the guidelines up here. That is not stop anywhere, only meet your friend outside and not use the loo. I certainly wouldn't be able to do it all, and it'd all be in one day because you can't stay over. Keep an eye on our guidance changing, the next phase may be more doable.

mylittlesandwich · 07/06/2020 23:36

I should say around 5 hours given your rough location.

Invisimamma · 07/06/2020 23:41

You can't go inside anyone else's house or use their toilet, so it's too far, you shouldn't come.

Next lockdown review is 18th June but even then I don't think we'll be permitted to socialise indoors.
