visiting a friend and her family for the weekend - stay with the family or at a nearby hotel?

yet another area of disagreement for dh & I!

kind friend is easy either way - we are very welcome but she will not be offended if we stay nearby instead of chez elle.

the advantage of staying in a hotel is that we will have a bit more space and independence (plan to spend rest of time other than sleeping and having breakfast with friend and family anyway), but dh feels we will be less relaxed in the evenings - no sitting about drinking wine together with children in bed.

as the veteran of many a self-catering holiday with other families - without any fallings out - i've always thought staying with another family on their home ground would be quite hard going.

over to you o wise mnetters!

tia

have told my friend that will won't hesitate to impose on her the rest of the time, i.e. when not sleeping or having breakfast

I would go for one night only and stay at friends house, think it's odd staying in hotel when the best bit is the evening getting pissed with mates whilst kids upstairs.

BK's already said she's getting a taxi.

I could never stay on someone's sofabed, my dh doesn't fit in a normal bed

I did the school run in my pjs this morning. Ds said "If anyone sees you I'm going to tell them you're the caretaker" - lord knows where he got that from. They're just black bottoms though and I had a long black cardigan on so I don't reckon it was that obv they were pyjamas

bossykate · 14/09/2007 14:59

i think you probably got away with it!

visitors are like fish, they stink after 2 days

If you're sleeping on a sofa bed you have to be pretty good friends. You're keeping them out of their living room unless you're up and about early.

We've often had friends to stay and it does make boozy evenings easier - but I'd only invite close friends and only with a spare room. It's easier with the rare person who knows how to be a good guest!
