Hi, we are flying to Spain in April and are hiring a car the other end.

We decided not to hire a car seat from the car rental company because it was ridiculously over priced and we thought that it may be a better idea to invest in a travel friendly car seat for our toddler instead. We are planning to book another holiday later on in the year to Italy so we thought the travel car seat would be a good investment. However... I can't seem to find anything suitable at all :-(. He is a tall 2 year old and turns 3 in May. My older children are using the Trunki BoostApak but he is too young to use this. I really didn't want to drag a huge car seat through the airport with me. Any recommendations please? thanks you :-)

We have the WayB Pico and whilst I wouldn’t use it for long journeys, we’ve been really pleased with it so far. I don’t know if it’s available outside North America yet though? During my research I couldn’t find anything else so if you can’t get that one and you don’t want to take the massive seat, I’d probably rent with the car hire.

We always just take a normal car seat with us, the airlines allow it and we've never had to pay extra.

We have the Britax Two-Way Elite for travelling (and as a spare). It's compact and light, especially for a 25kg seat, and compatible with most cars. We take it in a car seat backpack so it's easy enough to carry.

We bought it from the In Car Safety Centre, they sometimes have offers.

Actually I think we bought it from here in the end as it's cheaper (€154 which is about £130)

There is also the Urban Kanga which is a forward-facing 18kg seat and is £130. It's designed for travel so it's very light and portable. Personally I prefer to keep my son rear-facing as long as possible (hence getting the two-way elite) but some people are comfortable forward-facing so it could be a good solution.
