Bedgebury is holding a Christmas 'Lapland UK' Experience

... covering a part of the forest with fake snow, Christmas village, Raymond Briggs 'The Snowman' ride, Father Christmas visit, mulled wine to fortify parents, reindeer, husky dogs, trumpeters and all sorts. I'm soooo excited. Er, for my children, obviously...

It's quite expensive though (I just paid £167 for a family of 5). Here is the link. And here is the itinery.

And it's selling out quite quickly.

TBH I am sure the dds will have a great time...it is me that will disappointed! And dh who thought it was over expenisve, a long way away and generally would be a nightmare with a newborn anyway...so I will have to suffer the "I told you so!"...

foxythesnowman · 29/11/2007 18:57

No no NO! Its going to be FABULOUS!!

LilyLoo · 29/11/2007 21:01

ooh been very busy on here they ignoring my email too

Am at Megamba why come on here to say that!

Like you say you can play the transporter bit down and get into the spirit of things when you get there.

The father christmas is getting great reviews by most people so suppose we should focus on that as that the main thing.

Agree foxy it will be fab as we will have to make it so !!!!!!!!!!

annaxxx · 29/11/2007 23:32

I agree with foxy and lily that megamba was quite offensive and came on a too strong.

However i do feel that she has a point. As i have seen a lot of comments on here saying stuff like "we will complain after". I mean honestly what happened to going in to things with an open mind. I know that a lot of people have written bad reviews about lapland uk but i cannot belive how negative some of you lot are about it before you have even been. I mean foxy how do you know that your opinion is exactly the same as lilyloo's. I understand that you take into fact other peoples opinions but you cannot have such a negative look on to things before you have even been!

Also if it is so bad then why did the tv and newspaper articles give it such good reviews. I dont see anyone posting them on here. And we all know that nowadays the british media is waiting to critisize new ideas or anyone that comes in to fame weather it be to do withmusic, sport or fashion etc in this country!

foxythesnowman · 30/11/2007 00:02

I don't know if our opinions are exactly the same. We just seem to agree.

I will complain later because I am being ignored! No one has had the courtesy to acknowledge my emails.

I'm really looking forward to it, but am not relying on LUK.

megamba · 30/11/2007 10:22

shinyhappypeople....
I am sorry....if you chose not to accept that.........., but i am not a mindreader and knowhere did any of the mails I read refer to s/needs children.
I have children and grandchildren myself and no one wants children to be dissapointed, thats why we do these santa things, but take a breath and read the mails in pages 9 and 10,as a newbie, sooooooooo negative.
I did not imply you got free tickets either, so where did you get that from.

Marina · 30/11/2007 10:33

annaxxxx, someone has already pointed out on this thread that lucky journalists get VIPed round these types of events, we all know it happens, it is part of the PR. So the journalists will not write from an informed perspective about delays/other hitches because they don't have the same experience as the ordinary punters. They will already have reached an arrangement with the management that a positive slant will be presented - it's why they get freebies. Which I'm fine with, it just means that we will take glowing reports from people who were red-carpeted round Lapland UK with a bit of a pinch of salt.
In this day and age event organisers have to take on board that chat forums and blogs give the paying customer a chance to be heard, so if the event is not meeting expectations, people can and will say so.
I think what people on here are saying is that IF they feel they have been shortchanged by Lapland UK, rather than make a fuss at the time and risk upsetting their children, then they will make a formal complaint afterwards, in writing or by phone or whatever.
I am concerned about queue times and so on, but won't share any of my concerns with my children, I want them to enjoy their day. We're going with open minds but forewarned by a persistent word of mouth that there is a gap between what is promised on the website and the reality.
I still have not seen any official spokesperson from Lapland UK confirm that they have taken the feedback on board, and will be trying to iron out the wrinkles as Christmas approaches.

ShinyHappyPeopleHoldingHands · 30/11/2007 10:36

You are a grandmother.. and you speak to people like this..?

"your children sound horrid, if you are so sure they will "ruin it for everyone" if they dare make them wait to see santa..... you need to get a life!!!!!!!!!!!!!!"

Nice. I had assumed you were about 16.

megamba · 30/11/2007 10:49

The comments "ruin it for everyone if they make there child wait to see santa" was taken verbatium from a mail I read... kind made me mad.... however I was unaware the reference was being made to a child with special needs... hence my next mail saying sorry...... which you chose to ignore or more to the fact imply I am not....
" get a life" = don't be so negative about everything!!!!!

I wish I was 16

fio (and shinyhp and any others) did you know that Bedgebury run a conscession scheme?

If you get DLA, CA or Attendence Allowance you can get a free yearly pass (value £28 I think) to use the facilities. I only found out in Feb as I was buying a gold family membership and asked cheekily if carers got in free - they told me they were starting the free pass scheme shortly after (I had to buy it then as the children wanted to get it for DH's birthday - some self interest I feel?)

I do have the contact detials somewhere in a longago email, but if you just call and ask/next time you pop in you should be able to find out.

Shiny will you just drop it with the whole megamba thing. Yes she said a couple of rude things that she regrets. Oh well havent you in your life? Will you just get over it. This is about LUK not debating about how rude megamba is.

Chill out she apoligised for what she said and said she didnt mean it intentionally. So accept the apology and get over it.

JolieGirl · 30/11/2007 12:25

bugger off cod

you are not going to this, you have not paid out of a lot of cash to do so, you do not know anything about the event other than through people on here so why all the interest?

It's the the elves, right?

It is easy for you to say that annaxxx, as someone with a SN child I know what it is like to have people muttering when my child misbehaves if he is made to wait.

For someone to actually say what she said is VERY hurtful and sadly similar comments are heard rather too often in our lives.

It was an unpleasant, judgemental thing to say.

annaxxx · 30/11/2007 12:34

Oh is it easy, my younger sister has SN and has been in a wheelchair from the age of 9 so i can say that. And yes i know what its like and the difficulties familes face with a SN child. However mega is no mind reader and she has apoligised for wha she has said. And to be hoenst im sure your know anger yourself and im sure you have said some hurtful things in the past for example what yuo have jsut said to me "It is easy for you to say that annaxxx, as someone with a SN child" but im sure you didnt mean it intentionally!!!!!!

Hold on a minute - £150 is a LOT of money. If you do not get what you consider to be some sort of real value for this money then you have every right to kick up a stink

Go back to your overpriced mulled wine Anna or Megamba whoever you currently are
