A villa/apartment in a resort

PrincessWatermelon · 27/12/2019 22:18

I don't know what I'm searching for so thought I'd ask advice.

We'd like to have a villa or apartment so we have our own space, but on a resort, so we have a shared pool (DC 8 & 5 can play with other kids) and the option of restaurants.

Not fussed where, really, probably in Europe and in August.

Is there a name for this type of holiday and any suggestions? Thanks

These are harder to find than you think! Have a look at pine cliffs in Portugal - it ticks a lot of the boxes.

Bumping for you, before you drop off unanswered threads.

We’ve been to Martinhal Sagres a few times.

Try looking at these www.marriottvacationclub.eu/european-resorts.shtml
You don't need to be a timeshare owner to book them as hotels but you get apartments and space whilst the full on hotel and usually kids clubs and lots of activities. We go to one of them in Asia (as we live over here) and for that age range it's awesome.

PrincessWatermelon · 28/12/2019 10:24

Thanks for the suggestions. I'll have a look at those. I think they may be at the higher price point than I was hoping for, but in all likelihood I'm being unrealistic!

Does it need to be in a 'resort' as in kids' clubs and activities provided, or just a shared pool and restaurants nearby?

PrincessWatermelon · 28/12/2019 12:00

@EveryDayIsLikeMonday that's a good point. No, I don't think it has to be at all. A resort gives more options, but in actual fact, a shared pool and then various restaurants might well suffice. We tried kids clubs before and the idea was great, but they weren't that keen.

I think I was wondering about having the option of going to an AI place so we could potentially roll up for breakfast, but not be fixed to always eating in their (noisy) foothall.

Not sure why everything ended up as a massive link, but they both seem to work!

Villa Maria in Tenerife

happycamper11 · 28/12/2019 12:42

Just type in Villa holidays to google. You'll get all number of specialist companies. Surprised a pp thinks they are hard to find. Villa plus advert just come on tv as I type this. There are far cheaper companies out there though. Also consider air bnb

happycamper11 · 28/12/2019 12:43

Or on reading your updates I think it's more a holiday village you are after ?

PrincessWatermelon · 28/12/2019 15:22

@EveryDayIsLikeMonday They look very promising. Thank you. I'll have a proper look at those.

I've checked AirBnB but they lack the connection with other people. And many villlas I've looked at boast the private pool. Previously I would've been chuffed with that, but I do like the idea of having the resort around.

I've been to Pine Cliffs and most of the pools aren't heated so were too cold for me in early July.

I'd maybe look at a resort you like and then have a look on owners direct for an apartment with a shared pool. My aunt used to have an apartment on a complex in Estepona on the Costa del Sol and in the summer it was full of families so the children made friends but there was no shared facilities like a restaurant, bar, kids club etc. So had a bit more of a buzz than a villa, but no paying for things you won't use.

rookiemere · 28/12/2019 17:02

Regency country club in Tenerife might fit the bill. It is an aparthotel with a heated pool and restaurant. The only downside is that it's not at the beach, there are a couple of restaurants but a steep 15 minute walk up a hill, but there is a free shuttle bus to the beach and restaurants.

happycamper11 · 29/12/2019 09:09

There are a good number of holiday villages is Ayia Napa. I feel that ticks all your boxes - own self contained accommodation with self catering equipment, AI, large or multiple pools, some have splash park or water park onsite entertainments and kids clubs and are situated close to the beach. Callisto (they have a main hotel as well but also have villas) panthea village, Electra are some suggestions

PrincessWatermelon · 29/12/2019 09:35

Thanks again for more suggestions. I really appreciate it. Will have a proper look later.

@DarkMutterings I'm having a look at the Marriott - it definitely seems more upmarket and luxurious. So much so, there are no prices quoted anywhere!! Are we talking £££?

OP posts:
DarkMutterings · 31/12/2019 05:23

Sorry you might need to Google the hotels separately to find them or go via the main Marriott web site because the link I gave is through the club (so you use points).I've never booked a European one before as we live in Asia. But I found them comparable to booking interconnected or two rooms in a hotel but with lots more activities. Maybe more than a villa though.

Clymene · 31/12/2019 05:32

Have a look at Viva - it's a Spanish chain with apartments with little kitchens and shared pools, restaurants, kids club etc. You can go with a tour operator or book direct

icklekid · 31/12/2019 05:35

If price is an issue have you thought about a small Eurocamp site? We Only stay on small sites and book the really nice mobile homes which is like an apartment in terms of space- shared pool, restaurants on site... I realise this might be too far the other end of the spectrum from what your looking for but we’ve had amazing holidays when we’ve been with children!

PrincessWatermelon · 31/12/2019 15:06

Thanks for these new suggestions. I'll have another look. My husband hasn't previously been keen on the Eurocamp idea, but I'll have a look and might float a specific idea past him. It's good to have the options if he faints at the price of other things!!

The Marriotts are fab, but expensive.

There are lots of other apartment-style places though. If you use Booking.com you can filter for villas, apartments etc. Once you have seen the place you like you can always go to their website directly if you prefer.
