A villa/apartment in a resort

I don't know what I'm searching for so thought I'd ask advice.

We'd like to have a villa or apartment so we have our own space, but on a resort, so we have a shared pool (DC 8 & 5 can play with other kids) and the option of restaurants.

Not fussed where, really, probably in Europe and in August.

Is there a name for this type of holiday and any suggestions? Thanks

Have a look at Diamond resorts - some apartments are owned but you can stay in a complex and join in all the activities etc.

Lots of self catering apartments and villas around carvoeiro, in the algarve - Rocha Brava as above or Quinta do Paraiso, Monte Santo, Monte carvoeiro, Monte Dourado

This might be more affordable, we love it here -

Ah I just saw someone recommended Eurocamp - I was going to go with a similar suggestion of Camping Son Bou in Menorca - www.campingsonbou.com/en/home

Which has chalets and fixed big tents. And is fabulous!

Clymene do you have a link to Viva as googling brings up a number of different companies but none sound like you describe. I'd be interested to find out more. We usually have a villa with private pool every year but the kids would probably prefer a shared one.

Poppyatilda I can't click that link but would like to see your recommendation. Can you maybe just post the name? Thank you.

We have been to La Manga Club , Murcia Spain many times - with young children and with teenagers and really enjoyed it. Booked villa through homeaway and fly to murcia or Alicante, def best to hire a car as surrounding beaches are great. Onsite there are restaurants, tennis, supermarkets, and a large shared pool but each community ( think there are about 9 communities- a bit like centreparcs) also have their own pool/s. Really safe and some really nice local villages to visit. Worth a look.

I'm looking for something similar. We've stayed at Holiday Villages (First choice) in the past which fitted the bill. But I think we've left it too late to get one of those for this year, so will probably do Eurocamp who we've also had great holidays with.

Not a villa OP but a large decent sized family one bed room/apartment at Falésia Mar/ Falesia Garden with Jet2 in the Algarve might suit your family. You can just rock up for a lovely breakfast with plenty of choice to suit everyone, plenty of restaurant choices in the area, a nice beach down below and lots of mixed age children’s activities to dip in and out of if the kids so wish.

@Clymene thanks for the link. There are some good suggestions on this thread. I am looking for somewhere with good facilities and activities for the DCs aged 14 & 11.

@poppymatilda could you tell me a bit more about your Tamarit recommendation please? It looks good and the flights to Barcelona are really cheap! When have you been? I'm wondering if it's really busy in August? What's the pool and sun loungers like? And what's the situ with eating - is there lots of choice on site, or is it best to explore elsewhere? And I see breakfast can be included - have you done that?
Sorry for all the questions! Thanks

We went here last year, www.ritzcarlton.com/en/hotels/spain/abama , magnificent!

There is the main hotel on top, and the villas as you go down towards the beach. Our villa was however for a couple, not sure they have bigger ones.

milkjetmum · 05/01/2020 07:35

Iberostar offers this, we have had fantastic holidays at their Spanish resorts.

PrincessWatermelon · 05/01/2020 09:23

@LeGrandBleu that looks gorgeous. However I don't have €22k to drop on a week's holiday!!! And that was the standard suite!

We are booked to go to Aphrodite Hills in Cyprus in May- that fits your bill. We've been to Martinhal Sagres in the past, which was perfect, but too windy. Green Garden in Tenerife is one we looked at as well. There's a few on the website Tots to Travel- you might not have very small children, but they have a lot of villas on resorts because they tend to be easier with small kids than hotel rooms where you have to sit in the dark after your kids have gone to bed!

Awks · 05/01/2020 10:04

I was going to suggest parque Santiago in Tenerife too. There's various locations in Los Christianos, some busier and older than others but it's a great location
