Have done Horniman, Discover, Museum of Childhood, Science & nat hist museums, softplay, and just can't think of anywhere to go. Please don't just tell me to take them to the park in wellies and raincoats. They'd probably love it but it's my idea of hell.
Am in SE London, but have car.

Acquarium
London Eye

expensive though

cardy · 22/08/2007 16:52

swimming baths (I know it's not specific to London) but always a good fall-back option.

Butterfly house in Syon Park.

Aquarium

aloha · 22/08/2007 16:52

Oh, yes, have done aquarium and it is expensive! Am scared of the Eye
South bank is nice if dry and sunny...

I wanted to go to Kew, but not in this weather. Or Battersea Park zoo - ditto.

Swimming is currently my fallback...

aloha · 22/08/2007 16:54

Have also been to library.

I hate taking them both swimming. It's the getting dressed bit I loathe.

YOu can tell it's getting to the end of the holidays, can't you?

OP posts:
aloha · 22/08/2007 16:54

I know, I SHOULD take them swimming...

OP posts:
cardy · 22/08/2007 16:54

weather is set to improve....apparently

cardy · 22/08/2007 16:55

I agree about swimming, rarely do it with 2 but I do take dd2 (3) on her own when dd1 at school.

legalalien · 22/08/2007 16:59

DS 2.10 really loves both the Imperial War Museum (Lambeth) and the Army Museum at Chelsea - have never been to the latter, but apparently it has a soft play area. Also the national maritime museum at greenwich.

there's also some sort of softplay at crystal palace park, but DH says it's not as good as the one at surrey quays (called discovery planet)

or, if you're really desperate you can drop them off at mine and ds can press gang them into playing trains... fun for the first hour and half.....

oh - and maybe the library? some of them have quite good workshop type sessions in the holidays?

CarGirl · 22/08/2007 17:01

what is London Wetlands like?

Blu · 22/08/2007 17:01

Wet.
probably.

Blu · 22/08/2007 17:05

Docklands Museum - it has little mock-ups of old streets etc, and there is the novelty of going on the DLR if you go by public transport.
Unicorn thetare
Polka theatre (haven't checked what is on, though)
Go to a big pet shop and look at the bunnies and guinea pigs etc (if you are off to IKEA there is something called Pets indoors or PetsAtHome or something on the L as you proceed down the A23)

aloha · 22/08/2007 17:07

Blu - behave!
Hmm...haven't been to the war museum for a bit...
Went to maritime last week...there are puppet shows in the playground...but there is all this horrid rain.
I should really try a good one o clock club with indoor play...anyone know one?
I think Camberwell does a tiny gym session - will look into that.
Would love to drop them of at yours, legalalien! Or anyone's!

legalalien · 22/08/2007 17:08

hmm - thanks Blu, might check out Docklands museum - didn't realise that there were mock ups of streets! If heading in this direction, also worth taking DLR to crossharbour and going to see Mudchute Farm if it's not raining.

aloha · 22/08/2007 17:09

Is docklands museum interesting?
Actually Ikea is good idea.
Also, and I forgot but you reminded me re pet shop, Harrods is FAB. They let them read for hours in the bookshop and there is a pet shop. It's just getting there that's a hassle.

OP posts:
aloha · 22/08/2007 17:10

Polka is CLOSED
So is the children's theatre in SE1

get on a train. somewhere. eats part of day up and they love it.

so, could be syon house butterfly thing (if that is stilll open).

or somewhere else where the train ride is part of the day.

aloha · 22/08/2007 17:11

I know the rain is getting to me. Threatened to send whiney, screamy, not-listening ds to school until the start of term today!

OP posts:
aloha · 22/08/2007 17:13

I like trains but ds is a kicker (well, flails his legs about) which makes it really stressful. And I am too claustrophobic for the tube, which is a PIA.

OP posts:
Blu · 22/08/2007 17:14

What's on at the IMax? they have 3d nature films etc - DS loved it (the scary Dinosaur feature)
Has the transport museum re-opened?

speedymama · 22/08/2007 17:15

I think there is a one o'clock club near Crystal Palace park.

aloha · 22/08/2007 17:16

How scary Blu? Ds is DESPERATE to see the 3D films at the science museum, esp the dinosaur one. he's been replaying the clip on he computer!
But I have dd to consider and think she'd be terrified. Is a pain.

OP posts:
legalalien · 22/08/2007 17:18

nope, it hasn't reopened yet - am waiting in anticipation!

Will consult my time out guide to children's london when I get home and see if it has any bright ideas (although have probably used them all up already myself)....

DS asked to go to the supermarket, and to get a coffee today, so that was easy....

aloha · 22/08/2007 17:18

We had a catastrophic visit to supermarket yesterday - result, one VERY cross mummy and NO FOOD.
