ExecutiveFiat · 10/09/2019 11:32

We’ve taken all our holidays for this year apart from a weekend European Christmas market break in November. Currently thinking about next years holiday and waiting for easyJet to release summer 2020 flights. where is everyone going and how many holidays/ breaks do you plan to take? First year for us that we are completely free if school hols😀

We are only taking one abroad holiday as we are saving up to go to California for three weeks. We usually do two holidays a year though. We will do a few Uk breaks too next year.

MinnieMountain · 10/09/2019 14:35

2 weeks in Pembrokeshire in August.
DH will take DS skiing in February HT.
A week by the sea in the south of France in May HT (which I need to book).

from123toabc · 10/09/2019 14:41

This year we went away quite a lot.

1 week in the Netherlands (feb)
weekend in Stockholm (apr)
weekend in London (sleepover at the natural history museum-mar)
Weekend in Stratford upon Avon (jun)
Week exploring Slovenia (hiking in the Soca valley, lake Bled and 2 nights in Ljubljana- aug)
2 weekends in the lake district (Jun and Jul)
Weekend in Paris (Aug)

and we have a week in Portugal in the October half term (fishermans trail hike and Lisbon)

We budget quite strictly and have done all the above for about £4500 for 3 of us (mostly in school holidays)

Next year plans are (so far)
A week in Portugal (feb)
A long weekend hiking in Slovakia

MillieMoodle · 10/09/2019 14:43

We're going to Lanzarote for 11 days next July. Still tied to the school holidays here. Our budget doesn't stretch to more than one holiday a year at the moment.

hsegfiugseskufh · 10/09/2019 14:46

Weve got a long weekend by the coast (uk) with the whole family and hoping to book a week in spain (probably) in june or july.

Would like another later in the year but ds starts school in September so probably wont get the chance.

We had 3 uk breaks and 1 abroad break this year which is the most weve ever been away and probably wont be repeated for while!

LoonyLunaLoo · 10/09/2019 14:47

We’ll be on holiday for the new year does that count ( Australia). Then we’re skiing/ snowboarding in Whistler in the Easter holidays. Dh fancies Brazil probably next October half term or the end of the summer holidays. We’re going to Turkey this October half term and I quite like that we have something to look forward to as the nights draw in.

happytoday73 · 10/09/2019 14:49

For next year have booked:
-Egypt for Feb half term
-Portugal in the summer
I'm hoping to squeeze another 5-7days somewhere different when easyjet and Ryanair bring out summer flights

ExecutiveFiat · 10/09/2019 15:26

Lots of fab holidays here. We went away quite a lot this year and intend to do the same next year😀We are not confined to school hols now. DD did her a levels this year and went on a couple of hols with her mates, so we had a couple of European city breaks while she was away. Also went to Majorca for a family hol, and to krakow with friends. We have a week booked for lanzarote for next feb for me and DH so far. Cannot wait to take full advantage of term tine holiday prices. Keep all your ideas coming. I’m looking for inspiration.

I'm jealous that you're not tied to the school holidays any more!

Our holidays this year have been disappointing. Finland in Feb was too cold to be really enjoyable (although the skiing was good), Scotland in May was cold and wet, ditto Normandy in Aug. We're going to see MIL in the USA in Oct half-term, which should be nice as we also have friends we'll see.

For next year, we've booked a week skiing in France at new year, 11 days in Israel at Easter, a week in the Peaks next August, and I'm hoping we can go find somewhere warm to go for a week in Oct half-term - maybe the Canaries.

reluctantbrit · 10/09/2019 21:28

This year was Amsterdam in May, Germany in August, we go to Cyprus in October and a flying visit to a German Christmas market in December.

Next year will be Universal Studios Orlando in May and most likely Majorca in August (still trying to find a deal which doesn't break the bank). Over Easter we will go to Hamburg and see DH's parents.

TheresWaldo · 10/09/2019 22:15

This year DH and I went to Stresa on Lake Maggiore for a week which was gorgeous. Trip to Liverpool to see friends. Weekend in Barcelona with the girls. Interrailing in the summer - Prague, Bratislava, Budapest, Vienna, Tyrol, Munich which was fun, but hot! Teenager said she was bored with gites/Eurocamp but also she wasn't so bothered with sightseeing either, though it was her idea. She's not old enough to leave so I don't know what to do next summer. I am half toying with a Baltic cruise and half thinking of villa/apartment in Spain with pool and wifi and Netflix ;-) DH and I might go back to Stresa though.... I would like to go back to Budapest but might plan that as a girly weekend.

TheresWaldo · 10/09/2019 22:25

Might squeeze an Xmas market in also. We went to Cologne last year but it was heaving.

MinnieMountain · 11/09/2019 06:47

Our favourite holiday this year was Saas-Fee. It's stunning. We stayed in the hostel, which has a spa and pool.

SJane48S · 11/09/2019 07:26

No school holiday holidays sounds great & opens up lots of possibilities! I guess it feels weird though at the same time -when our eldest DDs stopped coming with us I felt pretty upset!

This year we went to Sri Lanka in April, Gloucestershire last month and are of to New York for the 50th next month.

As for next year, DH & youngest DD are planning a secret 50th trip for me next year - I do pretty much all holiday planning, always look for deals as I’m a cheapskate & do lots of research whereas on the very odd occasion the DH has booked something he’s made very quick & quite often expensive choices I wouldn’t have made in locations I probably wouldn’t have chosen. But as that’s hugely ungrateful & controlling thinking, I’m leaving them to it and will enjoy whatever it is! Other than that, we’ll do a week in the U.K. in the summer and possibly a long weekend in Paris later in the year.

Snuffkindle · 11/09/2019 08:19

We're having a two week holiday next summer travelling to France, Germany and the Netherlands, featuring Burgundy, The Rhine, Amsterdam....and 3 theme parks. The kids are theme park mad. Never done anything like this before. We're excited for an adventure but a bit worried about the dreaded Brexit...

PenguinsRabbits · 11/09/2019 09:15

This year we did Norway and Sweden for 2 weeks and Torquay for long weekend. DD also spent a week in Paris and we've done Paris trips but only as that's MILs so not a holiday as such.

Next year we've got Thailand and Borneo half booked, and that's easier to do on a budget than Norway Grin as long as you DIY it.

I will be very happy when school holiday restrictions end! Miss going away in September for a lot cheaper.

ExecutiveFiat · 11/09/2019 11:05

Wow, you lot are organised. Some fantastic hols and plans for next year. I’ve just found out that easyJet release flights for summer next year on 19th September. I need to book two sets of flights for April and June. DD will come away with us in April to either Rome or berlin, depends which flights work best) and dh and I are going back to Porto in June. Been three times and absolutely love it! Hoping to do a road trip to France in September. I also always have a long weekend break in Europe with a friend every year Went to Copenhagen this year. . Thinking of Istanbul or Sofia for next year. I’m a real bargain hunter, and use Airbnb a lot and book flights early. Have had some great bargains, even in summer holidays.

SooticaTheWitchesCat · 11/09/2019 13:42

We are going to Turkey, first in April and then in the school summer holidays. We have just bought a house out there so we are going to make the most of going there :)

SJane48S · 11/09/2019 15:00

No idea about Sofia but Istanbul (if you’ve not been) is great OP!

ExecutiveFiat · 11/09/2019 17:40

Ooh Sootica lucky you! Yes Jane i’ve Heard Istanbul is fab.

Sjane tbh, it’s feels kinda natural going away with just DH most of the time. We’ve got used to it over the last few years, as We’ve had a few weekends/overnights away since DD was 17. She’s almost 19 now and does come away with us on some trips. I just feel so liberated been able to go away pretty much whenever we want. New York for the big 50 is great. I did it last year😀

Oh, brill to find out Easyjet release their flights soon- was just this minute having a schmoozy.
This year dd and I did 2 x 3 days in London (am abroad and she is a proper furriner so we love coming over) already booked for 30/12-2/1 for the New Year celebrations too.

This summer we did Madrid and Toledo then flew from Madrid to Brussels for a bit.

I chose Brussels because the flights from Madrid were dirt cheap but you know what, it was fabulous! I studied there years ago and hated it, but this summer loved it. So much to do. It was great. Highly recommended for a couple of days.

For next year (also tied to school hols plus the fact I work till 16/8) am thinking maybe first a city break or two (Madrid/Toledo/Brussels was great but I was knackered by the end) and then a week slobbing on a beach. Possibly a Croatian one.

reluctantbrit · 11/09/2019 18:16

@TheresWaldo - most Christmas markets in Germany are heaving at weekends. Locals go during the day and under the week.

@TheCanterburyWhales according to a colleague EasyJet releases the flights on the 19th September
