Emirates business class what to wear & expect

Anyone travelled in business class long haul before?
Any suggestions on what to wear? What to expect? I've done loads of research but would be interested in your own experience

I’ve done Etihad in business and my mum has done Emirates. You definitely don’t need to dress up. Comfort is key! I always wear yoga pants with layers of jersey on my top half.

Check in early and make the most of the lounge. Etihad is dine on demand, so you get on board , ask for whatever you want to drink, peruse the menu and tell them what you want to eat and at what point in the flight you want it. Not sure about Emirates though, but the info will be on their website.

Do they still do the chauffeur? I know they do here in Dubai, but not sure about the UK.

On board just chill out and call the staff every time you need something, eg your seat being made into a bed. Don’t be shy to ask for anything you want - more drinks or snacks or whatever.

Enjoy! Where are you flying to? Dubai or onwards?

PegasusReturns · 26/08/2019 12:04

It's like travelling in economy but with more champagne.

GreyBasket · 26/08/2019 12:22

Nah, it's much nicer than economy. You do have to be in first to get dining on demand though. But business has the bar at the end and snacks available anytime. And to be honest with one flight only and not two or three with transfers, you get fed and watered enough.

I wear jeans and a top and converse myself and change in pyjamas for overnight. I want to buy some nice lounge type pants for day flights.

saraclara · 26/08/2019 12:53

I upgraded to business with emirates for one of my sectors (offered at a discount the day before I travelled). I wore exactly the same as I do in economy. Jeans and a comfy top You don't have to go posh. It wasn't snobby, and who cares anyway?
It was very nice, I was well looked after.

nooddsocksforme · 26/08/2019 13:24

You don’t have to dress up - just be comfy. With emirates business you get the limo to the airport, straight through security and board early. The lounge at Glasgow was lovely with a great buffet - other lounges not so good. The lounges do have great showers tho so on a long haul flight with a stop- off I would take a change of clothes in my hand baggage and have a shower . Makes you feel way better .

KimchiLaLa · 26/08/2019 14:29

Don't dress up too much. You will be uncomfortable, and stick out like a sore thumb, because people generally don't.

PegasusReturns · 26/08/2019 17:16

@GreyBasket well yes of course it's nicer but it's hardly something the OP needs to worry about. No one will be judging her.

OP I fly with emirates 3-4 times a year business or first. Wear what's comfortable the only people dressing up are those on staff travel.

If you get an upgrade to first don't show yourself up as a first timer as I did by asking where you put your bags Grin

Apolloanddaphne · 26/08/2019 17:19

I have travelled business class a number of times. I always dress for comfort in loose trousers and a t-shirt/jumper. My shoes come off immediately. No-one will look at you and no-one will care what you are wearing.

GreyBasket · 26/08/2019 18:52

@PegasusReturns you said it was just like economy but with better food 🙄 That's what I was replying to. It's better than you gave credit for.

I fly business and first as well as tons of economy too.

whattheactualfuckery · 26/08/2019 19:00

Ok I'll stop worrying about sticking out like a sore thumb and making a dick of myself!

OP posts:
PegasusReturns · 26/08/2019 19:27

@GreyBasket no I said like economy but with more champagne.

It was a throwaway comment designed to put the OP at ease since she seemed anxious 🙄

OP you won't make a dick of yourself and even if you think you do no one will pick you up on it. In addition to my bag faux pas in first my DH infamously responded "the duck pate" in response to an emirates cabin crew asking him if he'd like an aperitif after take off Grin

whattheactualfuckery · 26/08/2019 20:03

Pegasus that'll be be, faux par after faux par!

We’ve done a number of flights with Emirates Business Class - husband and children wore shorts and polo shirts and I wore linen trousers and a fairly casual top. There’s usually a real mix from smart to jeans - I prefer to be comfy.

PegasusReturns · 26/08/2019 20:19

@whattheactualfuckery fortunately two different flights!

BritWifeinUSA · 27/08/2019 01:01

We regularly fly business. The crazy thing is, when I’m on staff travel perks we have to dress very smartly because they apparently don’t want other passengers to know that we didn’t pay for the tickets. But then we are the only ones dressed like that. So it’s obvious. Just wear something comfortable.

whattheactualfuckery · 27/08/2019 09:55

Can anyone recommend great luggage?

With Emirates or Qantas if you travel economy you can have unlimited alcohol/Juice/Fizzy on demand apart from champagne. With Qantas I asked for a snack once on a long flight to Australia and they gave me a banana and a muffin. If you asked for snacks on long flights They wouldn't say No.

Starlight2004 · 27/08/2019 10:34

Just what ever you are comfortable in, it's not dine on demand on emirates but if you are on a A380 there is a bar area with snacks and you can ask for drinks whenever you like. The food is very good. I love the breakfast martinis!

nornironrock · 27/08/2019 14:59

I can recommend good luggage. The North Face.

Everything they do is spot on. It's not cheap, but lasts forever. I just replaced a large rolling case because it looked a bit tired. It's still perfectly OK, but after at least 300 flights in the last few years, I thought a new one was due!!

I also have duffel bags, small bags, soap bags, rucksacks. You really won't go far wrong at all.

Unless you prefer suitcases. I have no idea about those.

Cazziebo · 27/08/2019 15:08

Just back from a lovely long haul trip in Emirates Business Class.

Don't worry about what to wear. Anything goes - there was a chap in a Celtic top and shorts in our cabin!

What to expect ? The most luxurious flight ever- especially if you're on an A380. I felt so well looked after - champagne glass constantly topped up, food is excellent, seats are so comfy (flight attendant lays a mattress on it if you want to sleep). The A380 has a wee bar at the back which was good craic on two out of three of our flights, very quiet on the third.

Enjoy! We're working out how we can afford to do it again!

Constantlurker · 27/08/2019 15:12

Big tip - if you are doing a broken flight, drink the champagne on the second leg. If you have too much champagne on the first leg you'll spend the second half of the journey slightly hungover on a plane unable to enjoy the fabulous business class booze and food. Happened to a friend...

TheLidoOfThighs · 27/08/2019 15:33

Can anyone recommend great luggage?

Hard case (better protection, don’t kid yourself you can get more in soft cases, you can’t!), four wheels (way easier to wheel), long warranty (not that you will claim but it says something about the robustness), as light as possible. I’ve got a couple of pieces of Samsonite Cosmolite that have been going for years.

stucknoue · 27/08/2019 15:33

Unless you are flying to a business meeting just wear what you would in economy, it's economy with bigger seats and slightly improved ready meals, not worth it in my experience, (the lounge is overrated too)

BlackberryBeret · 27/08/2019 22:34

Don't be afraid to ask the cabin crew for help with the seat and how stuff works if you can't figure it out.

Airlines and seat configuration vary - I normally fly business with Virgin and the first time I flew with Eithiad there were a couple of features I couldn't locate.

If you feel embarrassed or self concious asking just lie and say "I normally fly business with another airline but this is my first time here could you please tell me [where the head phone jack is/how to recline the seat/ how to turn the light on]. Most of it is self explanatory but some times there are odd things that are tricky to work out.

Absolutely don't worry about clothing - business travellers travel so much they aim for comfort. To be honest, it's just the same clothing as in economy but with a bit more attention to the overall look and/or the cost. So you get tracksuit bottoms in both - but in economy they are more likely to be stripey/branded style and in business more expensive brand free all black affairs. It's only the newbies who are paying attention to whose wearing what. The regulars are settling in to make their journey as comfortable as possible.

My top tip for longhaul travel is invest in a pair of Bose noise cancelling headphones. They are expensive no mistake but SO worth it.

PurBal · 27/08/2019 22:36

What do you normally wear when you fly? Where that.
Don't be surprised by a hot towel and a glass of bubbly. Just take it in your stride.
