Las Vegas for 2 weeks - will we be bored?

DP are going to go to Las Vegas in a couple of months and get married while we're there Grin This will be my first time there (DP has been many times and loves it) and he is wondering if I'd want to stay 2 weeks or less than that. We'll get a hire car and go on a road trip at some point (he mentioned Arizona).

I haven't looked into it much but thought I'd ask for MN opinions. I'd like to see the Grand Canyon but apart from that I need to see what else there is to do. But is 2 weeks too long or will there be enough to keep us busy (I'm not into casinos or anything really, just want a cheap and easy place to get hitched!) I like nature and sightseeing.

I love Vegas but could probably only manage a week.

ThroughThickAndThin01 · 30/07/2019 22:05

Love Vegas, but 3 days max.

Killerqueen2244 · 30/07/2019 22:06

We stayed there for 2 weeks Confused I loved it despite not being massively into gambling but you do need deep pockets to keep yourself entertained for that long!

NotYourHolidayDick · 30/07/2019 22:08

Jesus 14 days would be amazing. But I'm just as good at lying by a pool as I am at gambling!

We spent MANY an hour down in old Vegas gambling $2 a go on the blackjack tables. Could make a couple hundred dollars last for an 8 hour stretch 😂

Kayaking the black canyon is good too. Then there's the chopper rides, horse riding, and shopping.

More than enough to do for 2 weeks.

Yotam · 30/07/2019 22:37

There is walking / climbing out at Mt Charleston plus you could visit Hoover Dam. I went not expecting to like it but could easily have filled 2 weeks (had one plus then visited Grand Canyon after). We did almost no casinos as had children with us.

leghairdontcare · 30/07/2019 22:45

It's a bit long. You'd have to go for a hotel with a good pool. Maybe change hotels half way through to mix it up. I can't see it being that cheap either - or if it is it probably won't be that much fun.

BritWifeinUSA · 31/07/2019 01:08

Depends on the time of year. In the winter at least you would be able to get out and about a lot. In the summer it’s too big to do anything other than sit by the pool. Or in the pool. It won’t be cheap. Sure there are cheap hotels but I’d rather do life without parole than spend 2 weeks at Circus Circus or Excalibur. There are cheaper places to get married in this country too. Our whole thing including license cost $48. I splashed out on an extra copy of the marriage certificate for 3 bucks.

BritWifeinUSA · 31/07/2019 01:09

In the summer it’s too hot, not too big!

Polyjuice · 31/07/2019 03:25

Oh no far too long and a bit soulless for that long TBH. As well as suggestions above, Death Valley NP is 2 h drive away and LA only 4 hours. Also Palm desert if you want a different place to shop and flop. Make it a mini road trip maybe? Congratulations and enjoy it whatever you decide!

WorkingItOutAsIGo · 31/07/2019 03:32

Since it’s your honeymoon you shouldn’t even be bothered about what’s outside the room Grin.

TheBlessedCheesemaker · 31/07/2019 05:20

Book your restaurants now if you want somewhere special. Gideon Ramsey’s Hell’s Kitchen is great, and my personal favourite is the Italian American club.

Sandybval · 31/07/2019 05:26

It depends what you enjoy really, I would have found 2 weeks too much- 5 days was fine and I was really to move on then (we spent the second week in LA).

AlwaysCheddar · 31/07/2019 07:54

Loads to do. Mount Charleston, Death Valley, Grand Canyon, hoover dam, lake Las Vegas, lake mead, the strip itself, shopping..... definitely would do two weeks!!

RusholmeRuffian · 31/07/2019 11:05

I love Vegas but 4/5 days is enough for me. I would probably do a road trip for a week. There are lots of great National Parks within road tripping distance - Grand Canyon, Monument Valley ( not technically a NP but amazing), Arches, Bryce Canyon, etc. Lots of incredible scenery. Or drive to the California coast.

BinkySodPlop · 31/07/2019 11:21

My parents did Vegas, San Francisco and Hawaii in 1 trip, but that's probably too much in 2 weeks. How about a week in Vegas and a week in California doing a wine tour?

I've spent a lot of time in Vegas over the years (husband was for years a professional poker player) so I'm happy to give advice. You did the right thing to hire a car for the stay.

Two weeks ON THE STRIP is a long time, but there's loads to do off it as well.

Go for a hike in Red Rocks on the edge of town, it's easy to get to and it's beautiful. Just make sure to take all the usual precautions and be VERY vigilant about sun protection and staying hydrated. Going early is best unless it's winter.

Most food on the Strip is overpriced and average. You're paying hotel prices. There are some decent restaurants in the hotels, but they just cost so much for what you get. However, for a special night out pretty much any resto at the Cosmopolitan will be very good, Venetian/Palazzo, MGM Grand, Caesars.

If you like Asian food, there are LOADS of excellent restaurants that don't cost a lot in nearby Chinatown. Lamaii has fantastic Thai, Monta has wonderful ramen, Kabuto has a superlative edomae sushi tasting experience (you need to book), Naked Fish a bit further afield has more the fun and crazy sushi rolls experience but still high quality. Several excellent Vietnamese and Ethiopian (yes, I know not Asian) if you want to branch out and for top notch spicy Szechuan Chengdu Taste is great.

If you love seafood Hot n Juicy in Chinatown is a lot of fun. They do an incredible seafood boil with side dishes and local craft beers.

If you reply asking for more recommendations about what you enjoy, I'll be happy to give more recommendations as there is no shortage of excellent value casual dining in Vegas. You'd be amazed just driving past what looks like a dull strip mall how many of them will have excellent quality food.

If you're a breakfast lover, Vegas is HEAVEN. Mr. Mamma's and BabyStacks are my favourites. The latter has Hawaiian style items on the menu as well, such as Kalua pork and fried rice omelettes, Loco Moco and dozens of delicious pancake varieties. Skinny Fats has very healthy as well as indulgent options and they make good fresh pressed juices. Go early because these places are very popular with locals. They're a zoo on the weekends.

A few other random recommendations: The Neon Museum. Go at night when it's all lit up.

The Fireside Lounge in the Peppermill Restaurant. The food isn't much to write home about but the cocktails are good and the lounge has been preserved in amber from the 70's, it's a really fun throwback.

Lots of quality vegetarian and vegan food. Violette's Vegan is my favourite.

Capo's Italian Speakeasy. Fun experience, the food is good with large portions. Old school Italian American red sauce joint.

Other Mama has a varied menu with portions for sharing. Excellent seafood especially. Oysters, crudos, etc. Great cocktails.

BubblesBuddy · 31/07/2019 21:47

We went for one night and couldn’t wait to leave. Hot, crowded, not clean and just yuk. Obviously I wouldn’t go again and it’s just a not for real town in the desert!

EggysMom · 31/07/2019 21:51

A quick read of responses shows the usual mix - some people love Vegas, enjoy what's visitable outside Vegas, and would be happy for two weeks; and others think it's a soul-less desert city with no attraction.

OP, you'll either love it or hate it.

twirlypoo · 31/07/2019 21:53

We did 3 nights as an add on from San Fran. Could you do it the other way round and base yourself somewhere else then nip over there in the middle for a bit? 3 nights was enough for me, I loved it but can’t imagine a week let alone 2 there!

EmmaC78 · 31/07/2019 21:54

I could have quite happily stayed there for 2 weeks. You would need to break it up with a Grand Canyon and Hoover Dam trip but I loved it there.

imip · 31/07/2019 21:59

Two weeks would be too long. I was there for my sister’s wedding. Five days, I think. Also suggest red rock canyon, Grand Canyon, slide rock (in AZ, in way to Sedona - great natural swimmming) and Death Valley. If you fly in to LA you could possibly do a road trip and include Joshua Tree national park. We did all this in about two weeks (and Palm Springs) it was a fab holiday.

TSSDNCOP · 31/07/2019 21:59

3 days max and that includes the Hoover dam that I’m obsessed with, the Grand Canyon that blows my mind, a show, great dinner, some slots and tables, nosey around the newer hotel and I’m chewing my way out.

TSSDNCOP · 31/07/2019 22:03

You do Death Valley on the way out Grin but not at night. Fucking terrifying drive.

Loved Palm Springs. Thought Joshua was, you know, bit dried out.

Head for the coast OP and drive north.

stucknoue · 31/07/2019 22:11

3 nights was too much in Vegas it's self but it's possible to do day trips or take a road trip, we travelled nearly 3000 miles around the sw USA in 2 weeks - nv, az, Utah & Ca
