Las Vegas for 2 weeks - will we be bored?

DP are going to go to Las Vegas in a couple of months and get married while we're there Grin This will be my first time there (DP has been many times and loves it) and he is wondering if I'd want to stay 2 weeks or less than that. We'll get a hire car and go on a road trip at some point (he mentioned Arizona).

I haven't looked into it much but thought I'd ask for MN opinions. I'd like to see the Grand Canyon but apart from that I need to see what else there is to do. But is 2 weeks too long or will there be enough to keep us busy (I'm not into casinos or anything really, just want a cheap and easy place to get hitched!) I like nature and sightseeing.

I came back to this thread because I thought I was very negative before. We used LV as somewhere to pick up the car and used BA reward flights on dates that suited us. That was fine!

We then travelled into Arizona, Utah and Colorado. All are better than Nevada with great little towns, historical sites, natural beauty and jaw dropping “big country”. Not to mention National Parks, scenic drives and a chance to see how the west evolved with the first settlers and how the lives of the native Americans changed. Vegas is just nothing when compared to what else you can see and learn. That’s why 2 weeks, even with side trips, doesn’t really get you close to the better things to see and experience. By all means do a couple of days but a couple of weeks is just not doing America justice.

The hash in the peppermill is AMAZING I still dream of it today. We went to Tacopa hot springs which is a bit out of Vegas, you can see the glow of the lights from the strip at night. We sat in big ceramic baths of hot spring water and clay/mud under the stars. It was brilliant. The old bit of Vegas is worth a trip, Calico isn't too far away and LA.

Hey, thanks for all the replies, much appreciated! We have now booked our flights!

DP and I are (very) long distance so we have decided to make it 2 weeks (I can't get any longer off because of work commitments) to get as much time as possible together. DP has US citizenship (doesn't live there now) and has driven around many States so we will be flexible and go to various places! We will be flying out of LA so will see things along the way.

I also need some time to relax because work has been crazy this year - so a couple of days reading poolside will be good. My parents have been to Vegas and saw the Grand Canyon and Death Valley so will def be going there! Will be careful about sun protection, I was stupid earlier this year and got burned on holiday on a long beach walk because I forgot to reapply it. Not pleasant. Factor 50 it is!

Thank you for all the food recs @MariEDI! DP doesn't like fish so will give that a miss but I will suggest somewhere in China Town! It all sounds delicious, drooling already haha.

What do you mean by hash @diplodoco? Hash browns?

I love the sound of the hot springs! And I would love to see Monument Valley and Joshua Tree! We went to Colorado a couple of years ago - just spent a few days there but loved it! I think DP is happy to drive (I wouldn't trust myself over there) so we will do a road trip. I have friends in Arizona so might see if they can meet up. I am so excited. It will be an experience regardless of whether I end up liking Vegas or not - I try to embrace new experiences and can't wait to get away (and marry DP!) Smile

Personally, I don't like LV, but there are some great shows on there (we saw Cirque du Soleil, which was fabulous), plus lots of restaurants, bars and lounges if you want to relax, eat out and have a few drinks. The Hoover Dam is worth a visit, as is Red Rock Canyon, both an easy drive from LV. Then I'd set off and see some more natural wonders. There are loads of amazing national parks around there - Joshua Tree, Death Valley, Kings Canyon, Sequoia NP, Yosemite ... you'll have an amazing time!

WTF0ver · 05/08/2019 22:43

I'd love to visit Yosemite and see the sequoias but I dunno if it's too far? Although DP seems to like driving in the US so maybe I can twist his arm...

Nope

Cannyhandleit · 05/08/2019 23:06

You'll be skint but not bored

zafferana · 06/08/2019 07:29

If you're flying home from LA then you'll need to drive a fair distance west anyway. Pull up a map and have a look. It is a detour, but not a hideous one.

zafferana · 06/08/2019 07:31

That's talking about Sequoia NP, btw, yes Yosemite is a fair way north of where you are. Doable, if you want to, but do look into accommodation and assume that you'll need to stay outside the NP, because accommodation inside it is very limited and books up two years in advance!

MsSquiz · 06/08/2019 07:40

We did the drive from Yosemite to Las Vegas (around 7 hours) but broke it up with an overnight stay in Death Valley.

Cool, I will mention it to DP see what he thinks. Last time we were in the US we had a long drive broken up with an overnight stay so it might be doable. Thanks again everyone Smile
