Looking for destination for 3/4 days in Europe with my 13 & 12 year old daughter and son on their first flight?

I'm taking my 13 & 12 year old daughter and son on their first flight in July.
We want to go to somewhere in Europe within a 2 or 3 hours flight for 3 or 4 days.
I'm leaning towards Rome or Barcelona but interested to hear any other suggestions?
The only city we don't want to go to is Paris as we've already been there.

Amsterdam or Copenhagen?

Holland

oreodough · 08/06/2019 23:49

I did Rome with my then 8 year old, it's beautiful.

This year took my 10 & 9 year old to krakow, they both keep asking to go back

My kids have visited both Barca and Rome and enjoyed both. But I’d say they enjoyed Rome more - coliseum, Vatican, gelato, pasta and the Spanish Steps.. would also recommend Copenhagen.

Wildorchidz · 08/06/2019 23:56

Copenhagen is lovely

Fly to Nice, less than 2 hours, short train to Monaco, cannes, St tropez, Juan les pins, even Italy for a day, about an hr from Nice, fabulous

Berlin

I’m interested to know who you are going to book with and where you decide to go

Amsterdam. Flight isn't far, loads to do, easy to get around.

Rome in July will be minging and hotter than the face of the sun.

CarolDanvers · 09/06/2019 09:38

Berlin. Short flight. Loads to do for that age group. Free tourist bus routes round all the sights.

Lifebuoy · 09/06/2019 09:51

I hadn't considered the temperature very much(doh) ... it's slightly putting me off Rome which is probably about 30 degrees in July.

Yes Rome will be scorching.

I would recommend Nice in the South of France...best of both worlds with city and beach! Wander around the quaint streets, the tram makes getting around so easy. The coast line is stunning. Get the train or bus to Villefranche or Cannes for lovely sandy beaches. Can visit Monaco as well.

I love it there😊

We have recently been to Valencia and Malaga. Loved both places. Valencia has a really long park stretch with activity areas along it, and you can walk to the beach.
Malaga also has city and beach close together, and the trains are good value and easy to use, inc from the airport.

ElloBrian · 09/06/2019 10:54

Berlin.

CarolDanvers · 09/06/2019 11:03

Oh yes, Malaga is fab. We were there in February.

TheHobbitMum · 09/06/2019 11:13

Budapest, beautiful city! Our teens really enjoyed it, plenty to see and do. We all loved the city waterpark too

SunshineSpring · 09/06/2019 11:44

Barcelona wont be much cooler than Rome.

Another vote for Amsterdam.

Lifebuoy · 09/06/2019 13:38

I like the idea of a water park or something else to do other than sight seeing. Does Berlin or Amsterdam have anything like that?

Malaga - cheap easyjet flights and loads of accommodation options, good rail links straight from airport. Loads of culture - roman theatre, Picasso museum etc plus water parks in places like fuengirola easily reached by rail. City and beach holiday rolled into 1!

Why don’t you go to Spain? Fly to Barcelona - Reus (not actual Barcelona) and go to Salou for a long weekend. Has a theme park, water parks, beaches. Lovely little resort. You will be able to find a cheap hotel, eat out.. and find a cheap transfer

cricketmum84 · 09/06/2019 15:25

Portaventura near Salou in Spain would be perfect for you. You can get a cheap flight to reus and either stay cheaply in salou or spend a little bit more and stay on site. There's Ferrari world, my 14 yo DS would love it, a huge water park and theme park and you're not far from the town of salou and a beautiful beach.

Fly to Innsbruck with Easyjet and drive down to Hintertux. There's snow on the glacier all year there so you can go up cable cars, to ice palace including a boat ride under the ice, mountains, skiing, also do whitewater rafting etc nearby.

Or Norway has lots of canoeing, whitewater rafting and wildlife like reindeer, moose, canyoning etc. Around Bergen or around Alesund maybe.

christmashope · 10/06/2019 20:18
