Here's my list of wishes! Where can we go on holiday? MEGA fussy!

So I usually 'travel Europe on the internet' spending massive amounts of time trying to find somewhere to go on holiday in fact, I'd be happy at home but DP likes to go away.

Anyway mega fussy me would like...

~Smart, stunning hotel - definitely no dark wood or orange pine ...or flowered bedspreads

~Preferably adult only - --like kids but work with them and need to....hide

~Open, relaxed - --don't really like hotels...but DP does...I feel institutionalised...like I'm at school

~Near a beach - perhaps

~Walking distance to the local town --love the idea of laying on a sun bed all day but get bored after 10 mins

~Short plane ride - 2-3 hours max scared of flying or boat journey

~Unusual, interesting, charming --definitely not 'Brits abroad'

~Not mega bucks - last nice hotel I found was £905...not bad, I thought...until I realised it was per night!

~Bed and breakfast or SC not AL, too much like school dinners

~Sunshine

Does this place really exist...I said I was fussy.

Would really appreciate your ideas! Thanks!

Well if you hadn't crossed through everything it might be easier to read. Croatia?

Jersey or a cruise.

Somewhere stuck up where uptight couples walk round withcatsbum faces?

YerAWizardHarry · 25/05/2019 23:13

Just got back from a week in Malta. Flight is slightly longer than 3hrs but isn't too bad. We stayed at the BE.Hotel and paid around €100 a night for B&B and it was lovely, very modern if that's what you're after

Croatia. Get a crewed yacht. You sound quite, erm, particular.

The beach at Jūrmala is a short train ride away

SwedishEdith · 25/05/2019 23:18

You've said hotel and self-catering?

Cascais.

EsteeLouder · 25/05/2019 23:30

I've actually been to the place that ticks all your boxes.

I'll learn how to do tiny links one day!

AdaColeman · 25/05/2019 23:35

Montenegro.

Walkingmum101 · 26/05/2019 09:22

Try Hotel Bozica, on Sipan island, near Dubrovnik. Gorgeous family run hotel, on a quiet and lovely island, with regular ferries to Dubrovnik and other islands just a 5 min walk from the hotel.

MarniLou · 26/05/2019 10:36

Oh, so serious, meant to be a bit 'tongue in cheek' ...at this end the my research into holidays is a standing joke...'won't go to that hotel because the carpet is the wrong colour' ...

Just really wanted some where a bit different...thanks to those who have provided links I will take a look. Croatia is gorgeous and we are frequent visitors.

I had looked at Poland, Gdansk and the nearby coast.

Montenegro looks great too, amazing views. Struggling a little with hotels or apartments where a car isn't needed to get to the nearest town

Can you be that fussy with that budget? Not sure such a place exists hotel wise. Especially in Europe, with prices as they are atm.

stucknoue · 26/05/2019 10:58

Try northern Spain - mostly Spanish on holiday, not so commercial, take the overnight ferry to Santander. I suggest stopping in two or three places for variety (we spent 2 weeks and drove inland as well as I hate beaches, so boring) mostly we stuck to 4 star hotels, except in Bilbao which was 5 star (got a bargain) b&b then headed out for tapas every evening except near gijon (inland) when we stopped at a spa hotel on an amazing package. I actually love hotels, so hassle free, and with b&b you still get the freedom to explore local restaurants etc but each morning you get fed without having to find somewhere, i hate the idea of ai though I did love cruising which is another idea that would fit many of your requirements

Hotel on Venice Lido might work or on Burano or Torcello something like Locanda Cipriani one is around £260 per night in September. We stayed in Villa Edera on Venice Lido but aren't as fussy as you so might not be posh enough - beach there, get Vaporetto into Venice in 5 mins and decorated in Venetian style - not sure of price maybe £150 per night.

Hollowvictory · 26/05/2019 12:23

Why is everything crossed out? Odd

MarniLou · 26/05/2019 12:31

Not really relevant thou, the crossings out...

Sorry missed the bit about budget. A week for two of us, £3,000ish.

Love the northern Spain details, thank you for that.

Valencia lovely but some dark wood
Barcelona
montpellier

www.hlapalma.it/en/hotel/sky-bar/ We went here on Lake Maggiore at Easter. Views were stunning. Roof top plus lake front pool. Lovely breakfast with nice tea. 45 min transfer from Milan Malpensa. Lots of restaurants and boat trips to look at beautiful places.

TheresWaldo · 26/05/2019 16:26

Or www.hotelvisavis.com/en/ on the Italian Riviera.

sansou · 26/05/2019 16:31

Avoid school holidays would mean less kids and cheaper so June/September would be good months to go.

ooooohbetty · 26/05/2019 16:41

I think Benidorm would suit you down to the ground OP. Lots of hotels that you'd love.

Peakypolly · 26/05/2019 16:57

Oooooo @EsteeLouder, I went there 2 years ago and going back this summer.
I have never been anywhere more relaxing 😎 (we did A. Incl. tho)
