Where's hot in April (not canaries!)

We want a flight sub 3 hours from London, with hot ish temperatures early April. It'll be for dh, myself and the kids 8 and 5.

Thinking Vilamoura? But on all ears to other suggestions.

I don’t think you can get hot in April within your flight time criteria.

Bunnybigears · 18/12/2018 19:44

You wont get hot hot with that time frame even Villamoura (if its the same one im thinking of in Portugal) wont be hot hot. If you want possible early 20s then maybe but you might also find its more like 16/18 degrees amd the pools will be freezing!

avoschmado · 18/12/2018 19:51

20/22 degrees would be fine!

Marrakesh? Sure that's just under 3 hrs.

Notquiteagandt · 18/12/2018 20:00

Bit oonger foight but the azores ?

AnyFucker · 18/12/2018 20:04

You could be lucky with Southern Spain eg Nerja

No guarantees though

oneteen · 19/12/2018 17:59

Malta should be fairly hot in April - we have been in February and it has been around 20-22 degrees - although can be windy.

Last year we spent a week in Provence and the weather was amazing early April during the day (you do need a heated pool though), it just went a bit chilly when the sun went down.

Longdistance · 19/12/2018 18:02

Nice was lovely in December, so I think April should be lovely. One of my favourite places 🌞

Timetobookaholiday · 19/12/2018 18:17

It's a bit further, but Cape Verde is warm at April, we have done Easter holidays there 3 times.
Stayed on Boa Vista, some of the best all inclusive we have been to.

ChelseaBabbage · 20/12/2018 16:14

Vilamoura won't be hot at that time of year. It might be sunny and warmish but you' dbe lucky to get 22C. I've been in August and the pool was freezing Grin
Three hours flight doesn't give you enough scope to fly far enough south for hot weather.

dreamingofsun · 20/12/2018 16:47

malta was a nightmare in early october....rained and rained and rained. i cant imagine it would be great in april unless we were really unlucky

Branleuse · 20/12/2018 16:52

ive been to malta in april and had mostly good weather with the odd shower. Also Corsica.
I wouldnt have said hot, but definitely short sleeves weather.

How about Morocco?

How come youve written off the canaries?

Branleuse · 20/12/2018 17:14

Well wherever you go in europe in low season is going to be some risk with the weather. You were very unlucky to get rain all week in October, although of course it can happen. Ive been in february and had rain and wind for a week, and ive been in february and it was high 20s and glorious. By april in malta, you are going to be looking at the sort of weather you probably would get in the UK in June. If you go to a sheltered beach you could probably swim in the sea (we did in february, as did other Brits) but that can also depend on whether theyve had a mild winter beforehand or a cold one.

I also think south of Spain is likely to be warm in april, as would somewhere like Cyprus or Crete, but not hot. You might get 20/21

avoschmado · 20/12/2018 17:53

Ha I'm Maltese, I go twice a year as it is. No ta!

OP posts:
ChelseaBabbage · 20/12/2018 17:54

Cyprus might be warm but is a 4/5 hour flight.

CanYouHearThePeopleSing · 20/12/2018 17:57

Was mid 20s in Malaga/Granada when we went in the first week in April.

fussychica · 21/12/2018 13:27

You could try Mojacar or Vera Playa in Almeria, it probably has best weather in Southern Spain but no guarantees. Can be on the windy side in April though. Fly to Almeria (40 mins transfer but limited flight choice), Murcia (1.5 hours) or Alicante ( 2 hrs).

Branleuse · 21/12/2018 17:33

Madeira?

Land0r · 24/12/2018 13:50

We were in Benalmadena (near Malaga) the second week of April and the temperature was mid 20s with lots of sun for 3 out of 4 days (heavy rain one day). We swam several times each day - pools were cold but the sun was lovely.

Studentnurse92 · 25/12/2018 20:27

We have been to cala D’or in Majorca the past 2 years in late April and has 21 degrees daily. Was lovely

LadyFlangeWidget · 25/12/2018 20:33

Sorrento... or puglia..will be warm but not boiling.
See warm enough to dip.in too.

Mummyshark2018 · 26/12/2018 10:18

Weather in Southern Europe is so unpredictable in April. I've been to Southern Spain, Portugal and Italy during Easter hols and had a mixture of blazing hot sun, a storm, hail stones (Spain!). Unless heated I have never been brave enough to get into a pool. Sea is warmer. I would recommend somewhere slightly further- canaries, Cyprus, turkey, morroco.

Branleuse · 26/12/2018 15:21

unpredictability of the weather in these places is what makes it a cheap time to visit them though.
Canaries in any school holidays is expensive both in flights and accomodation.
A holiday in low season in a place where you might be lucky or might not, is obviously a gamble, but it quite often pays off, and sometimes it doesnt

Branleuse · 26/12/2018 15:30

and you know, even if you do get a couple of rainy days, sometimes its not like winter downpours. You get a greener springtime scenery, you get to escape a bit of the cold back home. Its mild. You get some sunny days, some less sunny. Its not about just lying on the beach too hot to do anything. As long as you choose somewhere where there are still things to do if the weather isnt great, then youre ok, and its often half the price or a third of the price of going in the summer.
You cant recreate a summer holiday in april very easily, but it can be a really nice time of year to head south and get away. Just dont expect to have 30 degrees and a luke warm sea. Choose where you stay well. A heated pool for instance. Somewhere with museums or a town for rainy days

missyB1 · 26/12/2018 15:35

Cyprus should be warm, more than 3 hours though.
