DP works for travel company he says they are alright, he personally thinks SAS slightly better but depends where you are going as may need to change at Copenhagen.

TheBlonde · 11/06/2007 18:53

Thanks, both flights are direct

have a nice time

I flew Norwegian Stansted to Bergen in Feb this year. Flights on time, service fine. No problems.

TheBlonde · 14/06/2007 14:07

Thanks Jan, we have gone with Norwegian

Yes I know this is a zombie thread but will be flying with Norwegian in a few weeks and wondered if anyone here had recent experience with them ? Read elsewhere that they have had delays and when said delays rubbish customer service? I booked with them as was affordable but it had good reviews few months ago now Iv come across some negative ones

TheHobbitMum · 06/08/2017 16:04

I booked for 8 of us to travel Norwegian when going to Budapest last year, very efficient, good service and the flight was great. We'd never flown with th before but prefer them to tiger budget airlines, the TV /free WiFi kept kids happy :) Very quick through checkin etc as it was all done via app on smartphone too. Enjoy your flight

Lillycat100 · 06/08/2017 22:36

Aww that's great to know ! Thanks

PerfumeIsAMessage · 23/08/2017 22:43

Flew with them last Friday and will again this Friday. They're OK. On time, service with a smile. Quite cramped re legroom. Typical low cost style really. I couldn't checkin online. It had to be done at the airport. No probs though.

LadyWithLapdog · 23/08/2017 22:47

Flew to Bergen. All ok, as far as I can remember. I keep seeing ads for well priced flights and I ll use them again if I get a chance.

SJane45S · 24/08/2017 15:59

Flew with them this year to Catania. Good service, flight took off on time & we had a very smooth flight. Their app is good and you can if you want to buy food in advance. Their prices are good, additional baggage charges are a bit steep though. Long haul they use Dreamliners which had some safety issues initially which puts me off a bit (but then that's probably just me!)

Curlybrunette · 29/08/2017 11:40

We're flying home from LA with them this October, never used Norwegian Air before but the flight was only £150 each!

This almost puts me off though as it is sooo cheap. The meal package is £25 each, which includes a meal, a snack and 2 drinks. I haven't booked that yet but think I probably will. It's a bit of an unexpected trip we're making so trying to keep costs as low as possible. I think once the trolleys come round with the plastic trays filled with foil dishes I'll be jealous if I don't have one!!!

ImperialBlether · 29/08/2017 11:41

Don't book the meal! My children (adult) flew back from NY in July with N.A. and paid for the food - it was disgusting. Believe me, you won't be jealous! They were fuming that they didn't just buy sandwiches to take on.

Curlybrunette · 29/08/2017 11:51

Thanks for letting me know. I did read somewhere their food is very fish based, I'm not the biggest fan of fish so I was a little worried.
I was thinking what I could buy for £25 each to take on, I'm thinking I could get a lot!

RockyBird · 29/08/2017 11:54

I pretty much always take packed lunches (no liquids) on to flights.

You eat when you want and you don't have to eat the dog food the airline serves up.

ShotsFired · 29/08/2017 12:04

I have just flown with them last week!

We had checked in online no problem, so went straight to bag drop at Gatwick (there are self serve check-in kiosks there too). What a mess! No real queuing, just people milling about and it was only when we were waiting in said throng that I noticed people were meant to print out their own baggage labels. No problem with that in itself, but it isn't made clear and the baggage label machines are right up next to the bag drop counters (hence the crowds).

There was a very nice but stressed looking man helping people check their bags onto the actual conveyor, as he spent most of his time explaining over and over again to people about the labels.

Apart from the baggage fee and prebooking seats, we didn't buy any airline extras, and we didn't notice anyone else eating on board either (we were short haul, but if long, I'd probably bring from home/buy from supermarket etc and pick up any drinks airside at the airport)

The cabin crew were all very friendly and smiling too, pleasant and helpful. Their planes are quite new and decently appointed, as far as flying in economy is decent. They have free wifi which is ok - I was dreading noisy games and skype calls but I don't think it is good enough for that, so most people just use it to put novelty "live from 30,000 feet" pics on facebook Grin

Curlybrunette · 29/08/2017 12:37

This might sound a bit anal but when you take your own food on do you take fresh food (i.e. stuff that would normally be kept in a fridge)? I was thinking about sandwiches but I have it in my head (used to work in a kitchen in my youth) that meat etc. can only be out of a fridge for 3 hours.

We won't have access to a kitchen before we leave so everything will be straight from a super market.

Though I would be really happy with fresh bread and peanut butter Grin

Beedoo123 · 29/08/2017 12:42

Flew with them last December. Terrible service. Flight out delayed 2 hours, flight back delayed... then sat on plane for 2 hours on tarmac, then flight got cancelled. Understand these things happened but by the time we were let back into the terminal there were only 2 staff at the desk who completely overwhelmed, weren't expecting us and didn't seem to have a clue what to do. One person in the queue was actually shouted at by a member of Norwegian air staff! Staff at the airport told us it would be easier to sort ourselves out and book new flights over the phone which we did. Avoid!!!

Curlybrunette · 29/08/2017 12:43

Thanks ShotsFired for that, it's reassured me the planes were good.

You said they have free wifi, so is there individual screens for each person too, with lots of movies to choose from etc?

We flew with American Airlines last year, it was the first time for the kids on longhaul. They were so excited, they researched what movies would be showing and saved some of the movies for the way home. We got on the plane to come home and we didn't have screens, we were all horrified, you'd have thought we'd lost an arm or something!

Luckily it was a night flight so they both slept a good chunk of it...phew

EssentialHummus · 29/08/2017 12:48

I really rate them for price and onboard WiFi. I just bring an empty bottle to fill up with water after security, shove some snacks in my hand luggage, and treat myself to a sandwich/sushi/whatever at the airport to take on board.

ShotsFired · 29/08/2017 13:41

@Curlybrunette You said they have free wifi, so is there individual screens for each person too, with lots of movies to choose from etc?

Not on the plane I was on, but I was only flying within Europe, no idea about the transatlantic planes. Mine had no screens at all, people were just using their own phones and tablets to connect. Don't expect high speed fibre quality though. It's more of a novelty USP I think.

PresentlyTense · 29/08/2017 14:40

I flew to Alicante with them a few years ago. I would happily use then again.

ImperialBlether · 29/08/2017 14:47

@Curlybrunette Please don't take peanut butter on a flight.

Numbsnet · 29/08/2017 14:53

I'd avoid the €30/£25 meal. I smelt it in the seat in front and it was bad.
but they sell other food on board, including hot sandwiches for about £5/€7 which were good and far better value than their prepaid meals.

I flew transatlantic with them and it was super. The planes are very modern and clean. I loved the design of the pockets in front of the seat. No chance of any previous passengers mess being stuck in the pocket. But its not totally ryanair minimalist style either.

There's very few announcements, no sales pitches.
I was very impressed.
There was free wifi on board but you will need some extra battery power as there's no chargers.

Curlybrunette · 29/08/2017 16:19

imperialblether actually yes you're right I won't take peanut butter on board. It was only yesterday I read a thing on FB about banning peanut products on planes. Jam it is :-)

Brill thanks, I'll not bother with the food.

Norwegian do a thing where you can bid on an upgrade price (upgrade to premium class). I don't think there's a chance I'll get it, for us to upgrade now it will cost an extra £1000 and I've put a bid in of £250, if you're successful you find out 72 hours before you travel. I've never been first/business/premium, I should very much like to try it!
