Is my DD to old to bring a buggy for holiday?

So we are due to go on a 10 day summer holiday in 3 weeks time, was chatting with some friends about our plans etc and happened to mention that I was bringing a buggy for my youngest who just turned 4 in April. They were shocked I'd bring a buggy for a 4 year old. They said she's far to old I'd have everyone looking at us and judging.
I genuinely didn't think this was a big deal untill they said this.
Where we are going has water parks and theme parks which we intend to visit, I thought the buggy would have been essential for these?
Does anyone think she's too old for the buggy? It's not like she's going to be strapped into it 24/7 just there as a fallback if her legs get tired with all the walking!

Who cares what they think. If you think it would be useful, take it.

Singlenotsingle · 23/07/2018 11:34

I'd take it, unless you want to be carrying her every time her legs get tired!

Babablau · 23/07/2018 11:37

My almost 5 year old often sits on his little brothers buggy with him when he's tired, long days out can be too much walking for them and it just makes it stressful for everyone if they are tired and don't want to walk. I'd take it if I were you, it will just make everything easier for everyone! Plus they are so useful for hanging bags on the handles when out and about etc too

tabulahrasa · 23/07/2018 11:37

I don’t think her age is that relevant, but, if she normally uses one at all

If she doesn’t you might find you’re carting it round for no particular reason

MrsAidanTurner · 23/07/2018 20:49

I don't understand the angst about it. Take the buggy.. Somewhere to sleep if your out late.. Perfect

AnyFucker · 23/07/2018 20:50

Take the buggy

trilbydoll · 23/07/2018 20:51

Where else will you put all the changes of clothes, pack lunch, drinks etc? Only a crazy person would carry all that plus a tired 4yo!

Doyoumind · 23/07/2018 20:52

Take the buggy. If it's hot and she's tired it's just easier. If she's not in it it's still good for carting bags around.

bookmum08 · 23/07/2018 20:57

Take one. Seriously. Just take one. (two holidays have resulted in me going to Argos and Tesco to buy a £20 buggy). Looking back there were so many days out with my daughter when she was 4/5 that would of been better with a buggy. Tired little legs =cranky child. Take. A. Buggy.

AsAProfessionalFekko · 23/07/2018 21:01

4? I thought you were going to say 10! 4 is OK I'd they aren't great walkers and you don't fancy carrying them.

bangingmyheadoffabrickwall · 24/07/2018 11:32

We are taking the buggy for our 3 and a half year old to Turkey in a few days. We were going to ditch it in September but to be honest, we go to a lot of event days and doing 18,000 steps is fine as an adult but it does get tiring for a small child. My very tall 6 year old often rests in the buggy.

It’s nobody else’s business or concern TBH. So what if you get stares; it doesn’t affect anyone else by the family using it. If they frown, there problem to deal with not yours!

CalpolOnToast · 24/07/2018 11:37

Yeah, my DS outgrew his buggy at 3.5 and the couple of holidays we had between then and him being mature enough to walk about all day sensibly were a pain in the hole! Take it!

EleanorLavish · 24/07/2018 13:47

I would take the buggy, and did when mine were all that age.
My youngest (and I!) still miss it now, and he is nearly 6yo!Grin
Mine all loved the buggy.

BrutusMcDogface · 24/07/2018 13:53

When we went to Disney, we had a buggy which was well used by each of our kids (age range 3-8!)

aperolspritzplease · 24/07/2018 13:54

I took it when mine had just turned 4, apart from anything else it was handy to cart stuff around in.,

BrutusMcDogface · 24/07/2018 13:55

Also agree that it's brilliant for hanging bags on and all the general crap you have to cart around when you have kids!

Nettymummy · 24/07/2018 13:58

My DS was 4 in December and I'm bringing a buggy for him again this year. It means we get an active, fun holiday with lots of walks while he can rest in buggy when he's tired.
No way would he sit in it in our local town though. He would be embarrassed if he met a friend!

StripyPants · 24/07/2018 14:33

Definitely take it. We took ours when dd was 4. She would have an afternoon nap in the buggy whilst we sat in the sun with a glass of beer. Couldn’t care less if someone judged me

BrutusMcDogface · 25/07/2018 12:31

Stripy- that sounds idyllic!

dinosaurkisses · 25/07/2018 12:35

Twin sister and I went to Disney when we were 4.5 and our parents borrowed a double buggy from our childminder. Apparently it was a lifesaver.

Having done the theme/ water parks as an adult, I’ve often wished I could presuade DH to push me around in a buggy after a long day so I could nap!

Mrswalliams1 · 25/07/2018 12:35

I've got 4 year old twins. I've just brought 2 cheap buggies mainly for airport use. I don't care what other people think. It breaks my back carrying them.

duckyfuzzz · 28/07/2018 08:16

Dd2 was 4 in April. She hasn't used a buggy since she was 2 including going to Disney and other holidays.

But if you think your child needs one, take one! Personally it's seeing older kids 4+ with dummies that gets me.

PoesyCherish · 28/07/2018 08:18

My brother was 4 when my parents first took him abroad. They took a buggy and it came in super handy. Don't worry about what anyone thinks. Do what works best for your family and if you think a buggy would help / get some use then definitely go for it.

CherryPavlova · 28/07/2018 08:21

Four and a half is too old for a pushchair.

Nifflerbowtruckle · 28/07/2018 08:24

My parents took a buggy abroad until my sister was 5/6. We'd generally be out until midnight or so and my sister would sleep in the buggy when she got tired.
