Where to holiday within easy reach of Easyjet flights?

namechangedtoday15 · 22/07/2018 11:47

We will need a budget holiday next year so am thinking of cheap Easyjet flights (as soon as they're released in Sept I think) with separate accommodation. We've done the same this year (to Crete) but accommodation and flights still more than we want to spend next year.

So am thinking maybe Spain, or France (thinking shorter flights will be cheaper) but where? Will have teenagers who like pools / beaches / some activities maybe e.g. paddle boarding/ kayaking?

Any suggestions welcome!

We went to Sardinia this year - flew into Olbia with Easy Jet. So many lovely beaches and loads of water sports etc to do. Was a great, straightforward Holiday and we had lots to do there.

Orangesandlemons82 · 22/07/2018 11:50

We also managed to get very cheap flights!

Ooh thank you. Will investigate!

Nerja costa del sol. Watersports available on Burriana beach. I've made my own holiday there several times using Easyjet/Ryanair and got the bus or taxi up the coast from Malaga. We had a 2 week holiday in a private villa for 6 people including the flights for 3k.

Fly to Montpellier and find a place to stay around Cap d'Adge. There seem to be loads of budget options around there.

Great, will have a browse. Thank you!

Nice. Cheap & short flights. The beach at Nice is fine for teenagers - ten minute train ride away you have Villefranche which has a less steep beach which is also very nice! Air BnB apartments are very reasonable there - the old town is where I’d stay but you’ll find some apartments with pools a bit further out. They’ve spent millions on re-generating Nice & it shows! Lots of museums if your kids are into that, if not there are lots of shops, restaurants & bars. The train station is in town and is on a main line that goes through the Riviera so you can get to the likes of Monaco & Cannes to yatch gawp easy! It’s near to the border of Italy - Sanremo, a town on the Italian side of the Riviera takes about 1.39-2 hours to get to by train & is worth a day trip.

Dona
Do you mind if I ask what taxi company you used for your transfer and his much it generally costs
We are doing exactly the same next month
Thanks

donajimena · 22/07/2018 17:18

Hi I used a company called Nerja taxis (although they are Malaga based) it cost 90 Euros for a 6 seater but this was 2016 so might be a little more. However you can you can put the details in and they give you a price beforehand. We were collected by a nice shiny Mercedes van and paid cash on arrival. Very professional.
The price is each way.

donajimena · 22/07/2018 17:19

They come up on a google search. I love Nerja. Going back next year. Wink

Would you consider taking the ferry to France/Spain? We had a brilliant holiday in Normandy last year. We went here:

namechangedtoday15 · 22/07/2018 17:38

Hi we're in the NW so it's a trek to get to Dover & Normandy is a bit hit and miss with weather isn't it? We went to close to Granville about 8 years ago in August and it was still what I'd call usual summer weather (obviously not thus summer!) so a bit cloudy and not terribly warm (so we didn't use the outdoor pool for instance, only the indoor one). That accommodation looks great though - just need it to be a bit further south!

I mean English summer weather!

OublietteBravo · 22/07/2018 17:45

We were probably lucky with the weather - it was hot and sunny.

sillyswimmer · 22/07/2018 17:51

I'd second Nice. We got cheap flights there this year and stayed in an apartment a bus ride away. There's lots to do and see, plus easy access to beaches. Public transport is cheap and easy to navigate. We explored from Cannes to Monaco.

Totallyaddictedtoshoes · 22/07/2018 18:15

Dona
The taxi fares are a lot lower for Nerja at the moment due to increased competition. We are using Malaga cabbie and for a normal car it's €58 each way.

justaweeone · 23/07/2018 08:46

Thanks dona and addicted for the info
Have never been before so looking forward to it.

Ryanair fly to Palma, Majorca. Book early and you can get a good deal. Majorca is fab for families.

BarbaraofSevillle · 23/07/2018 10:50

If you're in the north west also look at Jet2 and Ryanair. Jet2 flights for next summer on sale now. And a shorter flight doesn't necessarily cost less. We've been to the Canaries for £30 return.

Also look at packages with these airlines as often cheaper than booking exactly the same thing separately.

Malta and Gozo good for watersports and good value eating out etc. The flights are a relatively small cost of a holiday - you've got to look at accomodation, activities, food, car hire.

Mallorca might be cheap to get to for example, but everything else is relatively expensive.

namechangedtoday15 · 23/07/2018 19:25

@Barbara were those £30 flights in state school holidays? Shock

mysteryfairy · 23/07/2018 20:46

If you are flying you have to factor in relative cost of eating out etc when you get there as presumably you’ll be taking little with you. Obviously everywhere in the Euro zone will feel expensive due to weakness of the pound. However in Southern Europe I’ve found Italy (especially lakes, fly to Milan or Verona) and Portugal (west coast fly to Lisbon rather than algarve for maximum cheapness) cheaper than France. If you’re prepared to venture to Eastern Europe and go for lakes then Poland is very very cheap for transport, eating out etc - you could fly to Krakow and then get the train. I also think Croatia might prove to be similar in this respect.

For airport transfer check Uber and Lyft in advvance. You may well find that you will be able to just pick up a car when you get there a lot cheaper.

My top tip is go late late in the summer holidays. We always book independently and always come back the day before school returns. Costa Brava is nice around Begur or further north still around Cadaques.

Dolceandgabbana14 · 23/07/2018 21:04

Espressobutler I highly recommend the old town, Rethymnon, in Crete. Beautiful narrow streets and lovely tavernas.

Haven't been in the last nine years, but back then they still had the funny loo roll arrangement 😏
