DLP - which hotel

So, I've asked on Disney sites but they all seem different in terms of reviews.

Booked for NPB (not Compass Club, can't see the point for the £££)

Is the DLH worth the extra £600 for three nights?

Me, two boys.

I've paid for a top up to the Wild West show and also a xter breakfast.

The boys are not exciting or big eaters

The boys are not exciting? Grin
I'd say no, the Disney hotel is very pink and grand and apart from being closer by a bit I can't see £600 worth of difference.
You do get character breakfasts included there but you can book one anyway and cover your spends with the spare £600

Setpeace · 11/07/2018 16:34

For a bit more you can buy annual pass for that extra 600.
Stay off site and go again.
I love the dlp Hotel, love atmosphere in there, you can go in as visitor and get atmosphere. I wouldn't pay the extra though unless I was extremely wealthy

Yokatsu · 11/07/2018 16:42

Depends on time of year you are going, whether you can afford it what you are looking to get out of your time there. If done the Newport Bay (twice) but I haven't done the DHL... I've done DHL lots

If it really is a once in a lifetime experience and you can afford it I would consider the DHL hotel. It's meant to be magical and unbeatable for convenience.if you go castle club watching the fireworks from your room I should imagine is something else.

That said you have already committed to a character breakfast so the benefits of the DHL character breakfast daily isbt quite so good.

I'd reconsider club level at the Newport Bay. The hotel fast past can be incredibly valuable especially in busy periods. And the afternoon tea many use instead of lunch.

I'll add I'm not a massive fan of the Newport Bay, it's quite bright! Our personal favourite is the sequioa but I think many people tend to find if they try a few they have a natural preference to one

SouthWestmom · 11/07/2018 18:54

The boys are, of course, very exciting 😂

No one seems really convinced - it's just the distance isn't it? That puts me off compass club - the idea of going back because we've paid for cakes makes me a bit unsure - the boys don't really 'do' food.

Even trip advisor is unsure.

Castle Club is totally out of the question - thousands on top of the £600 to book

OP posts:
Yokatsu · 11/07/2018 20:07

That should say above I've done DLP lots, ive eaten at the DLH but not stayed there

i dont think its just the distance, I think the DLH is truly magical in a more than the sum of its parts very Disney kind of way. If I was only ever going to DLP once and I could afford it i would do DLH.

And If it's "your hotel" you love it club level or not.

But having eaten there... I've got to say it wasn't my hotel. Given the benefits of club level in the other hotels and the relative cost of regular DLH compared to NY, NPB and sequioa, I really don't think I'd bother with regular DLH rooms either.

I would stay club level at one of the others. Mostly for the significantly quieter, untimed breakfast in gorgeous surroundings (although my club level experience in its current incarnation is sequioa) and hotel fast pass which really is very useful (unless you are going at a really quiet time). We only got round the the afternoon tea once so, whilst really lovely, for us it wasnt be a key factor in the decision but I know it is for others. That said there are other factors for us that make the breakfast room more important, like it being so small and limited in people that DS with SN was more able to move around and get his own food, not everyone will have that to factor in.

I wouldn't stay off site. The shuttles give me hives., my experience off site was that the hotel was really fantastic but I'd never voluntarily set foot in a shuttle again. The easy walk to the parks is for us invaluable. I don't do driving at Disney. I'd pick any of the disney hotels, sequioa up, in any of the rooms over offsite purely for the really easy walk to the park.

So in summary no to the DLH, yes to compass club cos the benefits are better than they sound, but I don't think it's a bad thing if you decided against.

SouthWestmom · 11/07/2018 20:12

Ok that's interesting. I'll look again at the compass club stuff. I think I just don't really want to do the DLH enough although if I was staying there I'd be really happy.

I stayed at NPB recently and had Compass Club benefits,I don’t think I’d pay more for DLH. Compass clubs biggest benefit for me was the relaxed breakfast in a smaller dining room and the fast pass. Even being able to call into the club lounge for a quiet drink was lovely.
Likewise I wouldn’t stay off site, if you’re only going to go once it’s worth being on site for the whole experience.

SouthWestmom · 11/07/2018 20:33

No definitely not going off site.

Ds has some difficulties so I want to be on site and not using shuttles/buses etc.

So with CC it's a fast pass for some rides, bigger room and tea.

We only have free HB Plus and quick service breakfast so not sure we'd get breakfast

Going 14 October

SouthWestmom · 11/07/2018 20:39

Just checked

600 - DLH standard
1000 -NPB compass
800 New York Empire State club room

Not sure if it's worth it really. £1000 is way too much.

OP posts:
Yokatsu · 11/07/2018 21:00

Do the difficulties necessitate a green pass and if so are there large queuing rides your DS won't want to ride?

Did you check out Sequioa golden Forrest?

The hotel fast pass (golden Forrest, compass club, empire state) is one fast pass per a person per a day for use any time except between about 1 and 4 (or is it eleven and 4).

On those figures the only one id consider upgrading too was empire state. But it would depend on finances generally

Yokatsu · 11/07/2018 21:01

Assuming you've already booked and paid for plaza gardens character breakfast!

Inmyownlittlecorner · 11/07/2018 21:04

I second Golden Forest in Sequoia Lodge. We go to DLP every year & it’s our favourite hotel.
DLH is lovely & it’s almost like an itch you’ve got to scratch. We’ve stayed there several times, but since discovering GF rooms in SL we’ve not been back!
Incidentally, a suite in Sequoia Lodge is usually cheaper than DLH & you get a VIP Fastpass.

EnglishGirlApproximately · 11/07/2018 21:11

Hmm, good as Compass Club was I think that sounds a bit much tbh. Are you celebrating anything? Just wondering the cost of adding on a signature package to get a days fast pass?

Floralnomad · 11/07/2018 21:19

Depending on the ‘difficulties’ it would be worth it , my dd has chronic fatigue and we always stay at the pink palace . Btw you do not get a character breakfast included , indeed you need to check what breakfast you are getting as you need to upgrade to a hotel breakfast in many cases including at the DLH . Prior to dd being ill and when the dc were smaller we always stayed at the New York , which I love , we’ve done NPB a couple of times ( compass club) and I’m not keen .

SouthWestmom · 11/07/2018 21:20

Celebrating escaping with the two younger ones!

Have asked about a green pass - several things that might qualify us but we don't claim DLA or have a blue badge which they seem to want. Definitely a disability under UK definitions.

Hmm maybe we will just be happy with what we have. Think any further away means walking won't be practical/enjoyable.

Thanks for the input - the scratch thing is right!

OP posts:
SouthWestmom · 11/07/2018 21:22

The restaurant at New York is closed apparently. The hotel wasn't available when we booked.

I dont want to be annoying but I don't want to list them as he has several dx, one of which is quite rare so outing.

OP posts:
Floralnomad · 11/07/2018 21:26

They will accept a Drs letter for a pass and it really is worth getting one if you can . It is also quite a drag to the Newport , considerably further than the New York so if mobility is an issue I’d go for a normal room at the DLH . I’m also probably the only person who doesn’t rave about Inventions but my dd is also coeliac and it’s very limited on that front .

SouthWestmom · 11/07/2018 21:35

Oh that's interesting. Mine don't enjoy food really - they eat when hungry really but any meal plan involves me saying 'eat some more, it's free!' And them chewing a croissant and drinking milk

OP posts:
Yokatsu · 11/07/2018 22:00

Yes i was going to say much the same as the above! (In fact I think I might be Floral nomads twin inso much as we weren't over struck by innovation either without any gluten issues)

I'd give serious consideration to switching out of Newport Bay on mobility grounds. It isn't a long walk but out of New York, New port Bay and Sequioa is is the longest walk and it is big so can be a bit if a walk even within the hotel. It's not good if you are wheelchair using owing to the stupid lift situation.

Where you're eating really isn't relevant to where your staying unless you are going midwinter when the parks close earlier. Last time we didn't eat at the hotel at all because there were too many restaurants in park we wanted to try. I wouldn't worry too much about that.

SouthWestmom · 11/07/2018 22:58

Ok that's handy. Maybe I'll take a look at the sequoia one. I think we went NPB because it was available and 4 star so I assumed nearer.

OP posts:
Yokatsu · 12/07/2018 08:32

Imhe facilities wise and star rating i really can't fathom the differences between the NPB and SL. The rooms are virtually identical; NPB has room service SL doesn't. Mostly the differences are atmosphere and subtle hotel layout, and that can be intensely personal as to which you prefer. According to the website they are the same walking distance but in our experience they are not (and they really aren't if you are off peak and they are refurbishing the path)

Both NY and DLH are nearer. So the nature of the difficulties may well make the DHL room the best bet After all.

FannyFifer · 12/07/2018 08:49

With two boys wld u not consider even the cheaper Cheyenne, the theming is brilliant, it's like being in a Wild West town, really fun.
It's actually our favourite.

SouthWestmom · 12/07/2018 09:08

Hi both boys are less 'typical' in their interests, but I think distance is a bit of a factor. I don't know- I thought this would be fun but I'm just really stressed by the decisions.

I think the lack of clarity on green/easy pass doesn't help as we don't have the DLA or blue badge. If it isn't busy it will be fine, if it is then the fast pass at golden forest might be better especially if it's just as close.

OP posts:
ButtonMoonLoon · 12/07/2018 09:47

The DLH, being the only hotel that is in the park, has that unique selling point. It's super if you think you might want to pop back to your room during the day.
All other hotels are a 10-20 minute walk or a shuttle bus ride away. We decided to stay at the DLH next time we go purely to avoid the shuttle bus experience. They get very busy and my daughter found the experience very stressful. There are also lots of pickpockets on them so you need to have your wits about you!
A letter from your child's consultant, stating their conditions and that queuing would not be in his best interests, may help you get a pass for him.
