What do I need to know before flying Easyjet?

I don't fly all that often and haven't used Easyjet this millennium......

But we are gong a bit further than normal this summer and they have the most convenient flights. It will be me, two teenagers and suitcases. Can't do carryon only for 6 days away.

Top tips please!

Remember your handbag has to go in your carry-on bag.

BettyPitts · 07/05/2018 07:10

I like easyJet, simple and straight forward.

I always book my seats and you need to print your boarding cards or have them on an app.

Not a bad range of food and drink onboard either

NumbersLetters · 07/05/2018 07:10

download the app and use it to check in. Take screen shots of your boarding passes so you can locate them easily and without wifi. take food with you from the airport onto the plane . Enjoy your trip!

NumbersLetters · 07/05/2018 07:11

We have never booked our seats and we have always been seated together.

Nakedavenger74 · 07/05/2018 07:12

Eat beforehand. Buy snacks and drinks airside. Their offering is fairly dire and expensive.

Fridayschild · 07/05/2018 07:13

ooh very handy advice. Thank you!

If you are taking hold luggage that helps. When we went to Naples this year they went up and down the queue asking people with larger cases to put them in the hold. Then when we got on the plane all the lockers near our seats had been taken by people who booked Speedy Boarding. Most who had not (including us) were forced to wander up and down looking for spaces for our carry on luggage. On the first flight t the crew managed this very well and told people where the spaces were. On the second it was a free for all and one poor woman still had nowhere to put her case when we started taxiing. The moral of this story is make sure your carry On luggage is small enough to go under the seat in front and you should be ok.

You need to check in online and print boarding passes

ScrubTheDecks · 07/05/2018 07:27

Onboard food v expensive (for what it is). Go to Pret before boarding.

Nakedavenger74 · 07/05/2018 07:29

@Sunafterstorm there should always be somewhere to put a bag if it's in the proper dimensions. If the cabin is full then people will be asked to put small items like laptops under the seat in front to make space. At very worst it will be put in the hold.
Therefore have any valuables, travel docs or emergency stuff like medication in a handbag that can swiftly be removed for safekeeping.

clarrylove · 07/05/2018 07:30

Don't be last to check in. You could get bumped off as they overbook. Not sure if the same applies if you are last to the gate. I am sure someone on here will know.

OrchidInTheSun · 07/05/2018 07:32

EasyJet now do two weights of hold luggage so you could go for one big, one small to give yourself weight wiggle room.

lostinjapan · 07/05/2018 07:38

The cheapest way to eat is to bring a picnic from home, plus some empty water bottles. Once you’re through security fill the bottles up at a water fountain, or ask nicely at a restaurant and they’ll do it for you.

Frazzled2207 · 07/05/2018 07:49

Check in opens a whole month before so put that in your diary if you're not prebooking seats. We've always done check in on the day it opens and never had a problem getting seats together.

Beware if it's a longish flight that there is not in flight entertainment.

However, I've never had a bad experience with them at all.

BreakfastAtSquiffanys · 07/05/2018 07:52

Take screen shots of your boarding passes so you can locate them easily and without wifi
Brilliant idea!

craigglen · 07/05/2018 07:57

If you download the easyjet app you can have the boarding passes on the app.

NumbersLetters · 07/05/2018 09:55

I do both. The app can result last minute faffing Grin

mammmamia · 07/05/2018 10:00

Definitely get Pret before boarding. I would never buy their onboard crap!

Sunafterstorm · 07/05/2018 16:06

Naked The m a in problem was locating the space s, and a lot of speedy boarders had put costs etc in the lockers and staff then had to ask who the coats belonged to, to free up space.

ForgivenessIsDivine · 07/05/2018 16:14

If your hand luggage is regulation size it will fit under the seat in front of you.

Sgtmajormummy · 07/05/2018 16:23

The on-board cheesy crackers are delicious but £5 each for a snack is a bit steep.Grin
The hostess doing the security mime was actually a pleasure to watch. GrinGrin
On a more serious note, because of passports arriving late we checked in closer than a week before flying and my party of four under-12s plus 1 adult were split into two groups 25 rows apart. A safeguarding risk so do check in early.

Sgtmajormummy · 07/05/2018 16:28

And a carryon for 6 days is fine!

Swissgemma · 07/05/2018 16:30

You can now check your hand luggage for £5 each or the entire party for £14 (each way) unlimited weight so we took three heavy carry on bags (with full size toiletries) combined weight 36kgs for much less than the equivalent full size. Also good of you need a cheeky extra case on the way back! Ask for hands free at the check desk at the airport.

minipie · 07/05/2018 16:36

Check in online 30 days ahead

Boarding passes can be emailed or texted to your phone, or you can print off

Buy food at the airport not on the plane

They allocate seats at check in so no need to rush to board (not like it used to be)

Watch out during the booking process - they will give you the option to book hotel, insurance, car hire with them but it's not good value. Just make sure you select the right button to carry on with booking rather than adding these options, as the buttons can be quite confusing (deliberately I suspect)

I can't remember if they still add a charge for booking with credit rather than debit card

Make sure you get the names and initials right as they charge ££ for changes!
