Central New York Hotel recommendations

I am googled out looking at hotels and am hoping I can get some great recommendations. Three of us, me (old gimmer) and my two girls early twenties we are planning to go beginning of October. We are looking for one room which sleeps three, I have been looking round Times Square but I don't mind as long as its central.

Budget is £250-£300 per night.

All help greatly appreciated.

The W Union Square? The Jane is ace but not sure they do triples.

I really wouldn’t stay near Times Sq - it’s tacky, noisy and so touristy. Try East Village or near Central Park.

On that budget you might be able to stretch to Soho House/ Ludlow House. That would be my first choice. Luxury and v modern and cool!

Blackbutler86 · 01/02/2018 23:11

I stayed at the Sheraton which is basically on Times Square www.sheratonnewyork.com. Not sure about a triple room as I was just with my DP. It was a nice hotel and so easy to walk to everything

BubblesBuddy · 01/02/2018 23:49

The MADE, The Casablanca or The Giraffe. Not so easy to get in the price range though - for 3. Times Square is ok because you can walk to quite a few areas from there. I really like Soho because it’s more of a neighbourhood. TriBeCa is also a good place to be. For 3 people, taxis won’t be too expensive. Think about what you really want to see and position yourself so you can get about easily. (The underground is fairly basic and rough).

Or Hotel 50 Bowery. Lovely location but not so central.

alltheworld · 01/02/2018 23:58

Hotel Lucerne is in the70s and broadway. Two express stops to broadway and near the -park. Large rooms. Not too expensive.

Thanks for the suggestions, will take a look tomorrow

We stayed at the Metro hotel about nine years ago. It was small and nice, and pretty central. We had a package that included breakfast too.

I would second whoever recommended the Hotel Giraffe, corner of Park and 26th. We stay there in NY and would rate it above staying anywhere nearer to Times Sq which is just so manic. The Giraffe also does free breakfast - lots of fruit, yoghurt, pastries, cereal etc - a real plus when nearly all hotels quote room-only. They also have free coffee, fruit and cookies in the lobby all day and a happy hour in the evening with fizz, cheese, olives etc. Love coming back there to unwind at the end of a day of sightseeing and relaxing before dinner.

not sure on the price but i stayed at the
www.marriott.com/hotels/travel/nycrt-renaissance-new-york-times-square-hotel/?scid=bb1a189a-fec3-4d19-a255-54ba596febe2
excellent service and the breakfast buffet was amazing.
i'd call them personally (not go through a third party) and ask for a great rate.
besides the buffet, they gave us tickets for the hop on hop off bus, and a few other perks...

Its not going to be easy to find a triple room; many standard US hotel rooms have either one king bed or two queens (double beds) in them. You may however, be able to get a room sleeping three if you look at suite based hotels (Homewood suites are but one chain). You could get two queen beds and a sofa bed in such a room.

pinkbraces · 02/02/2018 09:01

I love Giraffe, Casablanca and Made. Will show them to the girls. We are happy with two double beds as we don’t mind sharing.
Keep the ideas coming and if anyone fancies telling us about great places to visit/eat/drink we would be grateful.
We are all very excited.

We staid at The Benjamin in a junior suite which had a king and a sofa bed.

Humphriescushion · 02/02/2018 09:36

We stayed in the Gansvoort Park ave. I have just checked and it is now called the royalton park ave. It was lovely. There is a very chic bar and club on the top floor which had young people queuing to get into but we had direct access - was there with my daughters in their early 20's so was fab for them. Also a view of the empire state buiding. Rootop pool was lovely as well.

peachypetite · 02/02/2018 09:38

Have a look on booking.com for deals. The giraffe is good.

Christmascardqueen · 02/02/2018 12:10

The room I had st the Renaissance was two massive queen sized bed. The room was shared by 3 adults

BubblesBuddy · 02/02/2018 15:28

Pink: if you look at the Made, Casablanca and the Giraffe on booking.com you will see they are highly rated by travellers and in your price bracket. I would chill out and book one of them! Too much looking won’t help you much more. The recommendations here are correct and for three of you, lots of decent hotels are not in your price bracket!

Haven't been yet but after going around in circles trying to chose we have a bookings at The Renwick

pinkbraces · 03/02/2018 13:44

The Renwick looks fab and both my girls were Art Students and in art related jobs - I think they might like this one.

Thanks user

I love The Marlton in Greenwich Village the location is amazing. I wouldn't stay in Times Square. If that's out of your budget there are a few other options in the area on booking. Com which look good.

pinkbraces · 03/02/2018 23:40

Mercurial123 why is the location amazing?

It's very close to Washington Park, Greenwich Village is beautiful, amazing selection of cafes and restaurants ranging from cheap to expensive. Cafe Wha? is very close by it's always a fun night. The Village is my favourite part of NY.

NickMyLipple · 04/02/2018 05:18

I stayed in the Carlton Arms hotel: carltonarms.com/a-floor-rooms/

It's also known as the New York Art Hotel. It's basically an art gallery - every room is a work of art. It's also very reasonable (pretty much no frills!) At about £50/night and also in a great location.

ILikTheBred · 04/02/2018 06:46

Have you considered apartment rental rather than a hotel ? For three of you you might get more space and comfort for your money. New York hotel rooms are tiny at the best of times - for three adults you could be really cramped. Have a look here :

Homeaway

AttilaTheMeerkat · 04/02/2018 08:53

Short term apartment rentals of less than 30 days in NYCs five boroughs are illegal; the authorities have and continue to clamp down on tenants who illegally sublet. The OP will need hotel accommodation. Also such sites do not check the veracity of such rentals and many people have been scammed.
