If you love Edinburgh and Amsterdam...

Which other European cities do you like? I am not a fan of London, Paris or New York but really like Edinburgh, Amsterdam, Seville and Granada. Trying to think of somewhere (new) to go for a birthday weekend - preferably not in Spain - and wondered if anyone had any good ideas?

Bruges & Lisbon are my two favourite European cities.
Munich is lovely at Xmas time too

SandSnakeofDorne · 12/01/2018 17:49

Innsbruck or Utrecht

Lucydogz · 12/01/2018 18:24

Zagreb. Not too big, not too small. Plus 2 brilliant galleries - The Museum of Broken Relationships and the Gallery of Naive Art.

Have a look at Porto. We had a fabulous time there in May and you like similar places to me.

Valencia!

We loved Munich. Great food, wonderful beer halls and a very beautiful city. It didn't seem too big either. Also loved Berlin, same reasons really and so interesting too. Valletta is gorgeous and has an up and coming night life, we go to Malta a lot and have seen the city come to life over the last few years.

TheInimitableMrsFanshawe · 12/01/2018 21:30

Vienna

Bitchinabonnet · 12/01/2018 21:54

I know you said no to Spain ....but
.....consider Malaga . Lots of cheap flights and it is a buzzy , friendly city .

LoniceraJaponica · 12/01/2018 22:11

Bruges, Lisbon, Rome, Florence, Venice, Vienna

I would go back to any of them in a heartbeat.

In the UK I would suggest York.

TartanHare · 12/01/2018 22:15

We went to Berlin for the Christmas markets last month, loved it.

SongsOfInnocence · 12/01/2018 22:18

Munich - lovely Christmas markets that time of year
Lyon
Toulouse/Carcassonne

TheSnorkMaidenReturns · 12/01/2018 23:32

Oh, Carcassonne, yes!
Budapest is lovely too.
I did so much city travelling before I had children (work & fun). This thread is giving me so many happy memories!

Rainbowsandflowers78 · 12/01/2018 23:35

I was going to say Budapest but see you’ve been there

Venice??? Maybe better in spring/summer though

Barcelona?

LyndaLaHughes · 13/01/2018 00:07

Berlin or Krakow.

chemenger · 13/01/2018 09:08

Venice is lovely in winter. We went in November. Much quieter than summer, especially at night. Very quiet in the evening so not great if you want nightlife. Great for wandering round and eating long lunches. Bellinis in Harry’s bar, very relaxing.

Kittykatmacbill · 14/01/2018 14:11

Bruges, Antwerp and Brussels? I rather like Belgium for city breaks...

relaxitllbeok · 14/01/2018 14:14

Helsinki. Tallinn.
