Looking for some holiday inspiration for next year. I have 2DDs age 11 and 9.
Where has your fave place been and why?

Best recent hols was to Whistler skiing last Feb. Just worked really well- the kids (6&4) were both lovely all week and we had a lot of fun together, but then DH and I also had some time when they were off in ski school.

Costa Rica was amazing: lovely beaches, volcanoes and rain forests to hike up/through, huge zip wires above the forest, great snorkelling. All done in an eco friendly way.

But you posted in shorthaul so I suggest a summer in the French Alps. You can get a gorgeous ski chalet more cheaply than in winter, the ski lifts still operate and are great fun to ride up the mountains for views and walks, also parks with luge etc to ride, lots of amazing spring fed outdoor pools you can visit cheaply, great food, great wine.

Winter trip to New York city was just so much fun, so much to do and enjoy - 10 days wasn't enough! I loved the bracing cold, the vibrancy of the city - just sitting in diners and bars meeting people.

Summer trip to Vancouver - heaven. City, beach, days in the Rockies, amazing people, so much to see and do in city and the landscape was breathtaking. Great outdoors at it's greatest.

Berlin - winter and summer trips have been wonderful. Addicted to this city and love it more each visit. People are welcoming, art, history, culture, food, can walk all day and be mesmerised and still barely scratch the surface.

My dream destinations on my list are Tokyo and Alaska.

Turkey - always :)

A transatlantic cruise with one stop on The Azores and two stops in Canada, ending in New York. Experience of a lifetime, to me anyway. I've never felt as free and cut off as I did half way across the Atlantic.

I think some people are missing the fact this is posted in Shorthaul. To be honest the best holidays I have been on are less to do with where and more to do with the people and mine and others frame of mind. We took DS aged 6 and 3 to Menorca the weather was not fantastic but we had an excellent time. Me and DH both felt completely relaxed and had no work worries weighing us down and the boys were no bother and didn't fall it once. We went to Menorca again a few years later weather was the same the hotel whilst different was pretty much the same standard etc. We had a crap time. DH couldn't switch off from work and nothing was good enough for DS1 who picked fights with DS2 at every opportunity. Having said that for the age of your children I would recommend Turkey. Nice weather, friendly people, hotels with fab waterpark and my boys at that aged loved shopping for knock off football kits and beats headphones etc in the market.

Most of them. I just enjoy my sunshine break.
We used to go with adult kids and that was nice in that we unwound and had fun.
Now it just the two of us which is nice to.
Favourite places have to be, Alicante (though sad memories there as well as many happy), Lanzarote, Malaga. The views of the Spanish coast by train .

For short haul, Lake Garda and Venice was just lovely. Plenty to do and very beautiful. Also Iceland.

The DCs still maintain Duinrell was one of the best holidays they have ever had though!

QueenLaBeefah · 17/09/2017 19:33

Agree about Crete. Beautiful scenery, food and cultural sights. Can't recommend it highly enough.

Haggisfish · 17/09/2017 19:36

Canal boat holiday. Travelled 14 miles in a week!!!

Unihorn · 17/09/2017 19:38

We really enjoyed Cyprus, and I would second North Wales as it has loads of adventurous stuff for children. Maybe a bit too short haul though!

DrMadelineMaxwell · 17/09/2017 19:39

We liked Salou this year for theme park/water park/sun and sand.

PrincessoftheSea · 17/09/2017 19:41

Cornwall is always a winner in our family.

Also Venice in spring (beginning of season so not busy). We were lucky with the weather and walking around at night in the dark was just magical.

imtherebutimnotthere · 17/09/2017 19:45

Without a doubt Turkey ( but not Marmaris) Olu Deniz/Hisaronu, known as the blue lagoon. Amazing food, lovely beaches. The kindest most welcoming people, lovely boat trips, water parks...adore the place.

doggiedecisions · 17/09/2017 20:12
