Where is hot in late September within 4 hours flying of Heathrow?

Thinking ahead to next year, where can dh and I go for last week of September/first week of October where it will be at least 25C and warm enough to swim in the sea? Preferably within 4 hours of Heathrow/Gatwick/Stanstead.

I'd love somewhere in the Med but don't know if it will be warm enough? I'm interested in Malta but don't think it will still be warm by then. We'll rent a villa so it doesn't matter too much if it's an end-of-season place as we're not into bars etc but the option to have meals out occasionally would be good.

Does anyone know if Cyprus is still warm.enough then? Anywhere I haven't thought of? We've done Morocco before in September but I really don't want to do the Atlantic again.

Have a check of Tenerife and Grand Canaria? Think it might be warm enough for you.

chipsandpeas · 25/08/2017 20:00

Cyprus will be hot

UsedToBeAPaxmanFan · 25/08/2017 20:49

Thanks. Is Cyprus reliable late September? I mean, if it's hot but with lots of rainstorms then that's probably not for us.

Oh, was going to say The Canaries......

SallyOMalley · 25/08/2017 21:12

Santorini?

SteppingOnToes · 25/08/2017 21:13

Cape Verde

indulgentberries · 25/08/2017 21:14

I was going to say Malta. It's usually about 20-25 in September.

Titsywoo · 25/08/2017 21:18

Rhodes - we went there at the end of October and it was still 27 degrees although cooling down in the evenings. Sept should be great in any of the Greek Islands.

bonjovigirl · 25/08/2017 21:19

Turkey will be 20-26degrees I think. Antalya/Bodrum towards the 25/26 level. I often use the holiday weather site (www.holiday-weather.com/averages/september/t) to give me ideas.

We've done Santorini before in late September and it wasn't great. Quite rainy/windy. Maybe we were unlucky? I don't want it blisteringly hot but mid - high 20s if at all possible.

We've done the Azores and Morocco, both of which were fab, but the sea is quite rough. I was fancying a bit of snorkelling- is that possible in the Canaries? I assumed that I'd need the Med rather than the Atlantic for calm seas and snorkeling.

Rhodes is good for snorkelling too

Last year we (DH and 4 yr old dd) went to Egypt end of September/October. Was in the early 30s and a nice breeze that took the edge off

UsedToBeAPaxmanFan · 25/08/2017 22:31

I did think about Egypt but we definitely want to hire a villa and car rather than go to a hotel/resort. Is that possible in Egypt?

We returned from Cyprus two days ago and it was still mid 30's. I'm sure it will still be very warm at the end of September.

whataboutbob · 25/08/2017 22:59

Malta will certainly be warm and swimmable in late september. The sea will be lovely and warm, you can swim in it till November. However there aren't many sandy beaches, but you can swim off the rocks all around the island. Other attractions to me are plenty of nice places to eat, laid back vibe, old cities.

UsedToBeAPaxmanFan · 25/08/2017 23:01

Ooh, I'm liking the sound of Malta. Beaches don't have to be sandy, rocks are fine. And we have looked at Malta before but I ruled it out for that time of year because I thought the weather wouldn't be reliable enough.

I've been to Cyprus a lot in Sept/overact. It's generally hot

Evewasinnocent · 25/08/2017 23:15

I've been to Cyprus in late October and it was in the high 20s!

MountainDweller · 25/08/2017 23:37

I can recommend Andalusia in Southern Spain or Italy's Amalfi Coast, both lovely at that time of year.

Our wedding anniversary is end of Sept so we often go away then!

Allwashedup · 25/08/2017 23:41

Canaries, Algarve, southern Spain, Morocco...

elQuintoConyo · 25/08/2017 23:43

Sicily. It's empty as everyone thinks: Mafia.

Strokethefurrywall · 26/08/2017 01:06

Another one recommending Rhodes. It's the sunniest and hottest of the Greek islands, September was still hot during the day and a little cooler st night to need a light sweater.
Also a touch more in the way of light showers but still great tanning weather.

Definitely recommend!

UsedToBeAPaxmanFan · 26/08/2017 06:59

Rhodes sounds possible. I'll look into that one.

The Canaries are in the Atlantic, which I'd rather ruled out on the grounds that the sea will be much rougher than the Med would be. We went to the Azores a couple of years ago which was amazing but the sea was really rough. Great for surfing but no good for snorkeling. I assumed that the Canaries would be similar. Is that right or is the Atlantic much calmer there? I think I'd still prefer the Med if it's possible in late September.

It's simple really. Cyprus is as warm as it gets for the Med.

If that's not hot enough for you, then you aren't going to find anywhere there which meets your requirement. Somewhere nearer the equator. So you a going to have to look at 4 hours towards African destinations. .
Places like Cape Verde are 6 hours flying time, which is a considerable increase on your preference.

So there really isn't much to choose from, and you'll just have to decide which features you might have to compromise on.

Egypt or the Canaries, possibly Tunisia or Morocco.

UsedToBeAPaxmanFan · 26/08/2017 08:05

Thanks for all the replies and suggestions. I will look into Rhodes Malta and Cyprus at that time of year.

I don't need it to be too hot, but I would like to be able to do a bit of sunbathing and snorkeling. My experiences of holidaying in the Atlantic haven't been good from that point of view!

I would also consider Egypt if it's possible to get a private villa but when I (admittedly briefly) looked into it, I could only find hotels which isn't what we want.
