Eygpt in December

LilRedWG · 23/03/2007 16:56

We're thinking of going to Eygpt this December for our tenth wedding anniversary. Can anyone recommend a great beach hotel suitable for us and DD, who will be 18 months old.

TIA

The Hyatt Regency Hotel just on the edge of Sharm, 5 mins from airport, 5* deluxe. Amazing place, been twice now.

did you book online? I cannot find anything -

LilRedWG · 24/03/2007 14:13

We booked with First Choice. I looked at Peltours but there was no avalability. We got two weeks AI for £1150 for the three of us (although DD will still be an infant then).

We looked online last night and then went into the shop today. They matched the online price. Have got our insurance through moneysupermarket.com for £15! Bargain!

i will look with them - thabnks

LilRedWG · 26/03/2007 13:17

So..... I'm going to start with the annoying questions now

Q1. You said it was cooler on an evening. Does this mean DH will need long sleeved shirts and DD a cardigan or will the boss be okay in short sleeves and mini-boss in long sleeved dresses/t-shirts?

Don't worry Beety, you only have 36 weeks and one day until I go!

Q2. Can I buy nappies out there? Don't want to take up all of our baggage allowance with packs of Huggies?

TIA

sarah573 · 20/06/2007 15:07

Hi, we went to Egypt last month - it was lovely!! None of mine are in nappies but I noticed plenty of Pampers packets in the chemist windows. The only thing I would say is where we were in Luxor there were no Supermarkets or big shops. Everything was little local shops and chemists on dusty streets. You may have to venture off the tourist track to get the nappies, and maybe even haggle over the price of a pack!!! All adds to the expience if you ask me

LilRedWG · 20/06/2007 15:12

Thanks Sara573!

Dont know anything about Nappies in Egypt, I travelled there for three weeks prior to kids. But, nappies in a warm and humid climate is not necessarily a very good idea due to severe nappy rash. (I spent winter in India when my oldest was under 2, had to stop using nappies alltogether) Try and keep your LO's bare bottomed as much as possible. Sudocreme does not work for that type of red raw nappyrash, bring Metanium and Bepanthen.

LilRedWG · 20/06/2007 15:22

Thanks MCSSN. DD will be 18 months when we go - any other tips gratefully received.

I ended up bying my son lots of underpants. As you have a girl, you can let her wear a dress, and never mind if she makes a wee, it will dry out. If she makes a poo it will get caught in the underpants, and you just discard them like they were a nappy, and wipe her off, and put another pair on. I did not use swimnappies on the beach, just swim costume, again, if she wees, plonk her into the water to wash off... If she poos, clean her up. I know, controversial advise, but anything to avoid a horrible rash. I only ever put him in nappies if we were going out to town. I am sure you will have a fab holiday!
