Las Vegas Hotels with Teens

MrsMontgomerySmythe · 05/06/2017 20:19

Am hoping you can please help.

We are spending 24 hours in Vegas this summer before leaving on a tour of various national parks.

I am struggling to choose a hotel.

Kids are 13 and 16.

I want to give them the Vegas experience of a large hotel compete with shops and several restaurants but a hotel where we can go to the pool and not be surrounded by drunken behavior - does such a one exist? I know we won't be able to avoid completely the smoking.

We have a room booked (with free cancellation) at the MGM - but am having doubts about how family friendly it will be (on a Las Vegas scale).

Just seen the other recent thread! Apologies. Will read the answers there.

We stayed in the bellagio and didn't see any raucous behaviour anywhere at all in the hotel. The pool was amazing and very civilised.

Been to quite a few hotels in Vegas. I think New York New York is your best bet. It has a huge arcade for the kids, plenty of places to eat, Starbucks, Hershey's and you also have the roller coaster. It is quite tame and has a nice pool area which when we have go has always been very relaxing, no drunks!

MGM Grand is not that family unfriendly but its so vast to traverse (same with the rooms, you will have to walk through the casino areas to get to the elevators). It can get pretty raucous and loud on the weekends or in particular when there is a boxing event on in the Grand Garden Arena.

Your children will have to stay with you through the casino and not linger in these gaming areas.

I would actually look into staying at the Signature at MGM Grand instead, this is a non smoking and non gaming facility and you can use all the facilities of the MGM. Its also a respite from the noise of the casino.

Las Vegas hotels like the Four Seasons, Mandarin Oriental and the Vdara are also non smoking facilities.

bojorojo · 05/06/2017 22:58

We stayed at the Vdara last summer as it was near the hire car depot. It was ok. This tour will be ultra hot!!! Couldn't wait to get out of Las Vegas! Mindless rows of people losing money. However, the national parks we visited were amazing!

MrsMontgomerySmythe · 06/06/2017 06:55

Thanks for all the feedback.

Will look at the New York and Signature.

Bellagio looks a bit expensive. Smile

I would also recommend New York New York

CiderwithBuda · 06/06/2017 09:35

We did one night at the Four Seasons which was nice but we arrived at night and left next morning.

We then did a few nights at the Bellagio at th end of our trip. Took almost an hour queung up to check in. First night we wanted to eat in the hotel as we had had a long drive. There was only in people restaurant that DS could eat in due to licensing laws.

2014newme · 06/06/2017 10:22

You need longer in Vegas! 24 hours isn't enough!

MadisonAvenue · 06/06/2017 10:24

My teens love New York New York.

3nationsfamily · 06/06/2017 10:30

We spent two days in the MGM grand with teens 14 and16 and it was great, no hassles, great pool- we even did one of those "watch a pilot to show and tell us what you think" session in the hotel.

SeriousSocks · 06/06/2017 10:32

The Venetian has amazing pool areas, lots of areas so can choose vibe and the eating options are great. We've stayed in quite a few vegas hotels and the Venetian functions very well as a hotel, catering to the full range, and the rooms are all little suites with sitting areas, really good. Better than our super upgraded room was at the Bellagio and you don't have to queue for basic hotel amenities unlike many of the huge vegas hotels. Plus a fake st marks sq and gondola ride, what's not to love Grin

2014newme · 06/06/2017 10:44

I too love the venetian

CrispyBathTowel · 06/06/2017 10:47

The Venetian or New New York would be my choices with teens. Is there no way you can stretch to 48hrs though? 24hrs too short to spend in Vegas imo

SallyGinnamon · 06/06/2017 10:53

We stayed at the Bellagio. Not so expensive midweek. The specialist travel agency also mentioned the Vdara because both were 'clean'.

I didn't get what she meant at first until we got to Vegas and DH kept having men trying to press prostitutes cards into his hand as we walked down the strip DESPITE walking holding DD's hand!

I assume 'clean' means more stringent about nieces visiting!

Sushiqueen · 06/06/2017 11:11

We stayed at York, New York with a teen and she loved it. We looked at other hotels whilst we were there and she was happy with where we had chosen.
Would go back there quite happily - even had a view of the roller coaster from our room.

MrsMontgomerySmythe · 06/06/2017 18:08

Loving all the feedback! Thank you.

You guys are better than tripadvisor!

We actually have 24 hours in LV before we head off to the national parks and another 24 hours at the end of the parks trip. So 2 days in all.

We will be staying elsewhere also in the USA so I am not worried about shopping in Vegas - just want to get a feel for it.

I am a more a camping and hiking sort so decided to keep the first trip to Vegas short and sweet.

OP posts:
bojorojo · 08/06/2017 14:57

24 hours in LV is too long! It will be roasting at 40 degrees and its tacky in the extreme. Everything is a replica and the originals are better! It is built for people who never leave the Usa and want a picture of the world on a plate plus a show and gambling. It's totally fake and worthless.

You will loved the national
parks we visited. Which ones are you going to? We did a tour last October and it was fantastic. They are authentic!

Dailystuck71 · 08/06/2017 18:52

I second signature at MGM. Walk through in the morning and have breakfast at the MGM buffet.

ProfessorLayton1 · 09/06/2017 22:50

Sorry to hijack your thread OP.
We are planning to go around the national parks from Las Vegas as well after MN recommendation ( thanks Lijjk)
What parks are you going to and how long you are staying in them ?

MrsMontgomerySmythe · 10/06/2017 05:33

Have just booked the Venetian. It was not on my radar until you all suggested it.

I thought it was a bit more expensive than I wanted to pay but I got sent a discount code and it ended up cheaper than the room in the main building of MGM which we originally had on hold. So thank you.

We are going to the parks in a small group with an Eco travel company. I am a single parent and am used to driving on the right hand side of the road (we are in Europe) but I did not fancy all the driving!!!

We are going to Zion, Bryce, Antelope, Monument and The Grand Canyon.

Can't wait!

Have a great time - Venitian is lovely - very vegas in that fake italy kind of way which i love. For future ref,.and if your dc were younger, Elara is also good as it is a non casino hotel- on the strip near Paris and Bellagio- is connected onto the miracle mile shops so easy if you want eats/ shopping.

You will be blown away by the parks - monument valley really is just like it looks in the movies!

chemenger · 11/06/2017 12:16

If you are making national parks the focus of your trip then ignore everyone who says 24 hours is too short a stay in LV. It' will be plenty. The parks of the south west are amazing, I guarantee that if this is your first visit it won't be your last. In Zion, if it is not too hot, the climb up Angel's Landing is amazing. If you get the chance to go horse riding (no skill required) in Zion that is fantastic too.

MrsMontgomerySmythe · 11/06/2017 20:57

Thanks chemenger.

I shall google Angels landing.
