Alcudia, Majorca - will it be full of horrible chav familys!

We are trying to pick a summer holiday but are finding it really hard to find somewhere that will keep the kids entertained but will not be full of awful chav familys!

There doesn't seem to be somewhere that is unspoilt and peacful but with lots to do!

We look at quiet places and they are too quiet, then we look at main resorts and they look like typical package holidays!

Am I being too fussy!!!!

you are being a bit snobby

if you pick nice apartments you can stay away from the chav scum

katierocket · 10/01/2007 16:12

Puerto Pollenca is much nicer than Alcudia

ScoobyDooooo · 10/01/2007 16:13

My sister went & lived & worked in alcudia all last year, we went to visit her & it was a really nice relaxed family place.

We stayed just outside Alcudia in the playa gardens hotel it is right on the beach & a fab hotel, very clean with entertainment for kids, it has a few restaurants down the street & also a man opposite who does pony rides for the kids my ds loved this.

The hotel was not to massive & not full of chavs at all.

Alcudia is a nice place we went out for dinner most evenings & found it very relaxed & family oriantated.

HTH

Puerto pollenca is also a lovely place gorgeous beach front but it was alot busier there.

tiredemma · 10/01/2007 16:15

perhaps you should try Peurto Pollensa if the thought of peasants on holiday horrifies you.

ScoobyDooooo · 10/01/2007 16:16

Also just to ask what do you actually class as "chav" families? just out of interest

wildwomanofblackpool · 10/01/2007 16:17

I think you're being a bit of a snob too, TBH. Alcudia's a fairly nice part of Majorca with a nice clean beach and as with anything, you get what you pay for. We stayed in a very nice beachfront hotel there and never ventured far from it and into what you might class as the chavvy area, as it had lovely facilities within the complex. (Can't say I got round to vetting all the other guests though)

Nothing to say there might not be 'chavvy' types wherever you go, unless you want to pay lots of money to stay somewhere with security to keep the undesirables away from you....

I go to Majorca every year, ok magaluf isnt the nicest of areas - but there are many other beautiful places on the island. We stay in a nice quiet place called Illetas, its about 20 mins from the airport and its perfect. Aparently the north of the island is lovely too, a friend of mine took his family there and said it was beautiful and loads for their DS to do (I think he was about 3yrs at the time)

Alcudia is lovely. We never met "chavvy" families when we were there. If you want a smaller island that is also child friendly try Menorca. Gorgeous!

Our kids enjoyed both!

I didn't mean to sound snobby really - I suppose some people might class us as chavs???

I just don't want to spend a fortune on a holiday to be surrounded by loads of young yobs making a load of noise until the early hours of the morning.

I don't want to listen to parents shouting at their kids the entire time because they are too busy getting pissed to entertain their kids.

I'd prefer to stay just outside a town centre that way we can go in and soak up the atmosphere when we want to but also be quiet and relaxed when we want instead of listening to thumping music.

I'd prefer an appartment to a hotel as with 4 of us a hotel room gets too crowded.

socci - I know what you mean. Don't get me wrong I like a drink myself but not a load of piss heads when my kids are around.

We have been to places with less English before and really liked it - the only down side was my dd found it hard to play with the other children as they didn't speak English!

Ah i now see where you are coming from, it is hard to pick isn't it, the hotel we stayed in was very family & there were no yobs drinking & being noisy all hours.
It was a 4* hotel just on the outskirts of alcudia we used to get a horse & carriage ride back to our hotel after eating out ds loved it he was 3yrs.

The other fab thing was we just had to walk down a path & we were on the beach so it was great to have the swimming pool & the fab sandy beach. I would however make sure you ask for a pool view.

wildwomanofblackpool · 10/01/2007 16:28

I agree that I wouldn.t want a hotel or area full of lager louts, but I think reputation usually proceeds those kinds of places hence their attraction to the 18 -30 ers. I'm the same in that I like a nice relaxed holiday. My dd is only 4 and so it's all about enjoying our time with her..

And, yes, there's is always someone who considers themselves further up the 'foodchain' as it were than ourselves. When we holidayed in Marbella last year, we went to Puerto Banus for a night out, a place I avoid like the plague usually and it's so full of flash blokes weighed down by their watches and women weighed down by their boobs and fake hair. I felt like a complete common peasant there in my Next stuff so it's all relative I guess.

sweetheart · 10/01/2007 16:32

oh good - I'm glad I'm making myslef clearer.

I agree, summer holiday is all about apending quality time as a family!

In context, we went on a rather posh skiing holiday last year - we stayed in a chalet with other familys and had our own cook. We HATED it - and I guess in this scenario we were the chav family.

We were stuck with lawers, teachers, architects and the like who all wanted to send their children off to the nanny or kids club so they could discuss politics over dinner - YAWN!!!!!!

Whats the point of going on a family holiday if you hardly see your kids!!!

Anyway - rant over!

Yes I want somewhere suitable for a lovely holiday with my kids!

Scooby - where did you stay, it sounds lovely!

There's nothing for teens and older to do on Menorca really. It's full of young families. Gorgeous place. I'm keen to go again (even if we did come back with DTs last time).

sweetheart · 10/01/2007 16:40

my dc's are 6 and 1 so it sounds quite perfect!

We stayed in an apartment in Son Bou Gardens. Gorgeous. There was a lifeguard at the pool the whole time. The more boisterous families went over to the bigger complexes to use their pools. Heaven!

(In fact I blame the lifeguard for the DTs. We had a quick moment whilst the kids were swimming..... was that TMI? lol)

ScoobyDooooo · 10/01/2007 16:55

Lol mars

I can not seem to find it either, i will find it though so just bear with me..
