Link to last years thread LEGOLAND 2015 Thread

There are quite a few seasoned Legolanders on mumsnet, and we are all happy to answer questions. The basics are all covered in the first posts of last years thread, otherwise please ask again.

None of us work for or are associated in any way with Legoland. We are all local parents with annual passes.

Please add reviews good or bad to help others! This is a happy friendly thread, now running for the 4th year! Happy Legolanding!

Hotel recommendations for Legoland

Copthorne and Holiday in at JCT 6 M4 Slough Windsor
Supereasy access to LL, View, but you are still in Slough so slightly cheaper.
Holiday inn Express and Travellodge central Windsor. Walk to all the shops and restaurants, great location to drive to LL.
Heathrow Premier Inn t5 Runway views of LHR, great for the kids and fab staff. McDonalds in car park. Win Win.
Hilton t5, great hotel, lovely gardens, not too far to drive.
Datchet Manor Hotel, handy small boutique hotel.

Hi going to take 4 years old and 3 month old in two weeks! We are using club card boost vouchers. What time is best to arrive it's a Tuesday school day? Taking pajamas etc to leave as we are about 1.30 away. Is it best to eat tea away from park? What are queues like?

HazAlways · 13/06/2016 10:01

Arrive at 9 and spend the first hour sorting tickets, toilets, coffee and looking atound the shops before gates to the actual park open at 10. Have tea at the park (hilltop cafe is good) before leaving as it takes a while to get out of the park. If you do t want to eat in the park there are several good pubs around.

This is a great thread. I went to Legoland last year with my 4 year old and 2 year old and had loads of questions before our visit. Anyway, I wrote about a day out at Legoland with toddlers specifically - hope this is of use to somebody. x

Can I ask a local knowledge question? We're taking our 2yr old to Legoland next week, decided to stay overnight and booked somewhere in Hillingdon.

Does anyone have any recommendations for something to do with a toddler in Windsor or Hilljngdon? Don't think we'll need 2 days at Legoland but want to make the most of the trip. TIA

We went early July lasts year and are going again this year and I am still not further forward with what I'm doing with a q bot.

Where do you buy them? How much? What rides do they apply to?

If it makes a difference dh and I have annual passes, Dd (5) will be paid on the day and ds (9) gets in with his blue Peter badge.

babybouncer · 22/06/2016 20:53

We're heading to the park a week on Saturday as a surprise for DS's 7th birthday and are staying at the Holiday Inn Reading South - does anyone know of anywhere to eat off the park in that general direction?

sjane03 · 24/06/2016 09:59

Qbot are bought from kiosks around the park.
www.legoland.co.uk/tickets-and-passes/enhance-your-visit/
There are a few different types depending on how much you pay. You can pay to not queue for less you can pay to queue electronically while you are doing other things. A couple of the rides with the longest queues are not included in the cheaper qbots.

Haudyerwheesht · 24/06/2016 14:43

Ok. Thanks - the only thing which had too long queues lass year were laser one and coastguard. Wondering if going straight there at opening would help...

sjane03 · 24/06/2016 22:11

My suggestion would be do boating school asap. You can now arrive at 9:30 and get into parts of the park(rides open at 10am) so look round mini land then scoot over to boating school as soon as it opens. Laser raiders is a really slow queue and keeps breaking down so is a problem but is going to be slow whatever you do.

Hi
Going to legoland on Friday. Had our Sun perks tickets ages but need to take another child with us now. Some on ebay I can buy but they have the barcode showing. Has anyone bought tickets off ebay and had them cancelled this year or last when they get to the gates?
Thanks.

Haudyerwheesht · 29/06/2016 00:45

Does anyone know, if our annual pass expires on 13th can we use it on that day or is 12th the last day?

Marthacliffscumbag · 29/06/2016 13:23

Just booked to go next weekend, it's a fair trek for us so we are staying over at the crowne plaza. Gone for the q bot as I don't see the point in paying such a steep entry fee to spend all the time queueing! It will be my sons 4th birthday, does anybody know if there are any treats for birthday children?

sjane03 · 29/06/2016 18:32

Merlin Annual passes you can use on the day they expire so you should be ok haud.
There is a birthday board at Lego land if you visit customer services they will put your name on it.

Haudyerwheesht · 29/06/2016 22:59

It's just a legoland pass rather than merlin?

Haudyerwheesht · 01/07/2016 01:14

Just to update - I checked and you can use it on its expiry date

Marthacliffscumbag · 10/07/2016 18:46

Just got back after a hectic weekend to legoland! All I will say is do not go without a q bot! Beg steal or borrow but without one I honestly would not go, except on a quiet Tuesday in February....

Haudyerwheesht · 10/07/2016 20:56

martha we plan on going tomorrow - without a QBOT... We did the same week last year and it was fine so we'll just have to see what it's like....

Marthacliffscumbag · 10/07/2016 21:12

Good luck haud! I hope you don't need one, but there was no way I was chancing a Saturday in July without it! Even for the smallest and tamest of rides (duplo valley airport I'm looking at you) there was over an hours wait. It would have been soul destroying to wait over an hour with 2 children for a ride that lasts 30 seconds and can be found at any local fair/school fete etc etc!

crocodileshavenoears · 10/07/2016 21:32

We were there on Wednesday and Thursday last week and didn't need a Q Bot. The laser ride had a really long queue (about 45 minutes) just before lunchtime one day but everything else was fine. Towards the end of the day we were able to get off rides and get straight back on. Have a great time Haud - wish we were going back this week!

Haudyerwheesht · 12/07/2016 08:24

Yesterday was fine - laser raiders was about maybe 25 minutes and squid surfer 15 minutes but otherwise fine.

Fingers crossed today is similar.

Haudyerwheesht · 13/07/2016 20:46

So this week was odd - Monday was fine and like I said, yesterday was torrential rain so was my X quieter and we left earlier then today was actually pretty nice weather and all day kids were able just to walk off one ride and go on another or go back on the same one straight away... Even the driving school was a 5 minute wait.

Have had a brilliant time and our 5 year old REALLY enjoyed it this year (our 9 year old did too but he did last year whereas she was a bit less interested in the rides last time). It helps that last year she wasn't tall enough for Mia's horse ride but she JUST made it this year - she absolutely loved it.

We don't really find the food and drink there THAT expensive - we do use our annual pass discount which helps a lot.

Didn't see any wasps or litter lying around which is a bit of a comment complaint on trip advisor.

Oh the jolly rocker has been closed all week and the sky rider might've been open but never when we tried. Also the imagination / discovery / robotics centres were all reserved for schools.

Don't bother waiting for the '20year celebration' show in mini land - we saw it on the way past by chance and it was shockingly low budget and awful - they'd have been better doing nothing actually. It was just so cheap and awkward.

Overall we've had a brilliant time again and don't have any major gripes at all.

Thanks for everyone's advice.

Haudyerwheesht · 13/07/2016 20:48

Excuse all the typos.

crystalgall · 22/07/2016 20:23

This thread and the previous one have been really helpful and interesting.

We are going on Tuesday for an overnight stay. Leaving from London. Any idea he best time to leave to make it there for 9.30?

Also we've got a nearly 5 year old. What will he like the best?

And finally what rides will have the longest queues?

shoofly · 23/07/2016 12:49

thinking of booking for last Thursday and Friday in September. We'll be travelling from Northern ireland with 2 lego mad boys so will need flights, car hire? and hotels - we did it a few years ago at Halloween and it was so busy and dark! Hoping that it'll be easier this time - Horrified by the driving and the traffic to be honest, we aren't used to the volume of traffic.

we flew into Heathrow and stayed near there before - Is there any value in trying to fly into Luton instead? - apologies for my poor English geography. Thinking it might be easier to actually stay in the resort hotel but slightly horrified by the cost...
