Ok..so far have got travel sorted and rooms booked at Radisson SAS. Thought that might be ideal as plus points...near the centre for shopping, station etc..and has spa, pool and hopefully a cocktail bar!!
Where oh where will we eat? we are aged 35-40 looking for somewhere nice but safe if that makes sense..trying to please lots of different people so somewhere middle of road, good but not too dear...also plans for clubs bars..etc..very much appreciated..THANKS!

If you go to the likes of Sauchiehall Street you will get all sorts of food and bars, ABC club is full of students but has great music that will have you all reminising.

Skribble · 28/12/2006 18:28

PS streets like that have lots of doormen and taxi stewards so fairly safe.

seb1 · 28/12/2006 18:29

What about here The Corinthian

kikireindee · 28/12/2006 18:42

Hi Winniewoo, the Living Room is nice for food and lovely cocktails. Urban is also very nice but a bit pricier. They both have websites and should have on-line menus. Arta in the Merchant City is good for your age group. Cafe Gandolfi also in the Merchant City is a nice place for dinner and has a bar upstairs. Lots of nice bars in the Merchant City actually - I like Metropolitan. I'm 34 and it's about right for my age I would say. It has a restaurant upstairs and bar downstairs with nice cocktails. If you have two nights, you could try the West End one night and City Centre the other. Oran Mor is a good venue - you can eat, drink and dance there. I'm not too up on clubs since having ds but know lots about shopping and eating so ask away!

tissy · 28/12/2006 18:45

The Kama Sutra at the top of Sauciehall St is a very good indian restaurant- I speak as someone who, as a rule, does not like Indian food!

Sarti's is great for Italian, or La Vita in the centre.

The Rogano is a famous bar and great for cocktails or a light bite (expensive for big dinner).

Princes Square in Buchanan St great for shopping, indeed all of Buchanan St great and Buchanan Galleries great too. Argyle St cuts across Buchanan and is good too.

Have a great time (wish I was coming!!)

winniewoo · 28/12/2006 21:49

Girls..you are all magic!
Great ideas, will have a look at menus etc.
Loved the idea of the ABC club!
Keep the ideas coming!!......
Oh..good reports on radisson??

kikireindee · 28/12/2006 22:26

Yes, have heard good reports about the Radisson. We use it sometimes for work and it seems to be good. Very central.

winniewoo · 29/12/2006 10:32

Girls...think it's going to have to be Italian or Tapas??
Someone mentioned the Italian Kitchen and I do like the look of the Metropolitan for drinks..am I on the right track??
Tapas..no idea! Know there is a restaurant in hotel but def want to head out.
Or will Sarti's fit the bill?
The living Room also looks good so still in limbo.......it's hard trying to think of everyone and I know I will not please everyone but I will try!!!

there is a fantastic tapas restaurant near georges square - highly recommend it. will see if i can find name.

also, i realise you're speaking about clubbing, but there are fab comedy clubs in glasgow...

winniewoo · 29/12/2006 11:09

oh..oh..comedy clubs...sounds good..tell me more ja9?!!

OP posts:
ja9 · 29/12/2006 12:19

ok, the restaurant is called

Cafe Andaluz
st vincent place
0141 222 2255
here

comedy clubs. i have rubbish memory... there are 2 that i've been to. one is called the stand (iirc) seated round tables - not sure if you can book. bar that serves snacks (toasties etc). i think show starts about 8 and finishes 11.

the other one is called the comedy club and is a much bigger venue with tables that you book - you can eat there too and make a night of it. it is more of a clubby place and once the show ends there is a disco and it closes about 2. i didn't enjoy it as much but that doesn't mean you wouldn't...

ja9 · 29/12/2006 12:22

www.cafeandaluz.com/

sorry. couldn't get link to work

winniewoo · 30/12/2006 17:43

Me again!!
Think I have narrowed it down to either cocktails at metropolitan then on to Italian Kitchen then perhaps a few bars after..I believe there are a few good ones in Merchant city or going for the Tapa option at Cafe Andaluz but any suggestions for drinks before and after??
Also, now going to see Fame at the Kings on the Sat afternoon 4pm..any suggestions of a cafe/bistro where we could all meet before about 2.30ish..thing is..some peole will just have a drink, some a sandwich, some late lunch so if you can think of anywhere very close by that might fit the bill I would be delighted. Thanks in advance!!

Hello again. The CCA on Sauchiehall Street in close to the Kings and it has a really nice cafe serving coffee, cakes, soup, sandwiches and more substantial meals.

have a look here

winniewoo · 30/12/2006 21:16

Kikireindee..That's perfect! Thanks. You're a star
What do you think about my dining options for the night before??
I loved the look of the Metropolitan but I think it's perhaps a tad expensive but sure we could stretch to cocktails..(Personally I don't give a hoot..my visa will be getting a right thrashing but I do have 13 others to think about..was considering phoning after new year re.set menus etc...) but just now
any thoughts on Italian Kitchen or Tapas place.
Hope I am not being tooooooo..annoying!

Not annoying at all - I love this sort of thing! I haven't been to the Italian Kitchen or Cafe Andaluz but DH had his Christmas night out at CA and said it was good. You mentioned Sartis which I love but the closest one is on Renfield Street which is quite close to your hotel but about 10 mins walk from Merchant City which is where Metropolitan is. Another good Italian is Zizzi which is just across the road from Sartis. Metropolitan should be good for drinks and Arta is close by there too.

more about arta here

Another place which is good for drinks is Zinc in Princes Square - pricey but if it's just for drinks, then it could be OK.

It's hard doing the organising when you don't know a place very well and trying to suit everyone.

MrsMuddle · 30/12/2006 22:08

I've found Andaluz a bit hit and miss, to be honest. Some of the things are really good (the chilli prawns, for example), but some are really yuk - the patatas bravas taste like cold potatoes in tinned tomato sauce. Fot Italian in Glasgow, I like Sartis or Bella Vita (I think that's what it's called) on the corner of Queen St and St Vincent St. Also, the Radisson is lovely, but verging on the red light district, so don't walk back to it alone at night. Have a lovely time.

winniewoo · 30/12/2006 22:39

Ok..I am getting there..I promise!
Top runner is now Sarti's but where for drinks, followed by Arta ( kiki..you think this would be good for us??) and also had another look at The Living Room which looks good......??

Oh decisions, decisions..thing is the group consists of lots of different wee groups and I need somewhere that isn't too flash and the wine, drinks and food will flow to help the bonding process!! Also somewhere busy and buzzing would be good. Arta looks huge and imposing from web but could be totally wrong.
