I thought I'd start a new thread as number 2 is nearly full.

thread 2

We haven't got ours booked yet. But we are planning on going August 2016. DH and I both turn 30 in the next 11 months so it's like a big birthday holiday.

Disney has got Magic kingdom, Animal kingdom, Hollywood Studios and Epcot, which are four separate parks. Plus blizzard beach and typhoon lagoon (two water parks - havent been to blizzard beach, but typhoon lagoon is fab).

Universal Studios is great.

Seaworld is OK, but we went once and that was enough. Dont think I'd go back.

Wet N Wild is a smaller and slightly cheaper water park that is good for younger ones.

There are other things to do outside of the parks which are pretty good.Depends where you are staying and whether you'll be driving or not.

Pigleychez · 02/06/2015 14:23

Shake- May sound like a stupid question but Magic kingdom, Animal kingdom, Hollywood Studios and Epcot and the water parks, are they all covered by the Disney tickets?
Ive no idea how it all works! Complete newbie!

ShakeTheRoom · 02/06/2015 14:26

Pigley, I think so, but someone else will come along and let you know definitely.

You will hate me for this, but we get 2/3rds off the price for on the day entry because DH has relatives that work at Disney. DH is useful for something Grin.

BloodyDogHairs · 02/06/2015 14:29

Yes all covered with the Disney ticket.

Are you planning on driving? there are loads of other attractions away from the theme parks that are great. My DC's love Green Meadows petting farm (no matter what age), this year we are also driving to Clearwater for a dolphin tour.

Pigleychez · 02/06/2015 14:35

I think DH mentioned hiring a car but I guess that depends where we stay.

How big are the parks? (obviously big!) Is our guess at 1 week in Disney feasible? Is that enough time?

McKayz · 02/06/2015 14:36

My planning book from Disney has just arrived. DD is cuddling it and won't let me have a look!

OP posts:
BloodyDogHairs · 02/06/2015 14:41

Pig you could do the parks in one week but the children will be knackered, weekends are usually heaving too.

I'm doing 2 days at Hollywood studios, 3 days at Magic Kingdom, 2 half days at Epcot, 1 day at Animal Kingdom, 2 half days at the waterparks. That's spread over the 2 weeks.

McKayz · 02/06/2015 14:43

Dog, how are you all feeling now? Are you all excited?

I really wanted to keep it a secret and surprise the DC like on the adverts but I can't shut up about it. They'll probably be fed up by next August.

OP posts:
BloodyDogHairs · 02/06/2015 14:48

Eek we are thankfully all feeling ok! my 3 year old has a slight weeze but back to being his demanding little self.

I cannot keep secrets.....everytime the disney advert comes on I sqeal "we're going there" my 1yr old doesn't understand but even she runs to the tv in excitement Grin

McKayz · 02/06/2015 14:56

There's a few posts on the dibb I've read and they aren't telling their DC until they get on the plane. There's no way I'd manage that.

A week with every day at Disney might be exhausting, although I know some people find it fun. I wouldnt be up for it, though.

We are only in Orlando for a week this summer (going elsewhere in Florida afterwards), and we are doing:
Day 1 - Magic Kingdom
Day 2 - a half day/eve at Magic kingdom (for the fireworks)
Day 3 - Hollywood Studios
Day 4 - pool/not at park, but Downtown Disney for dinner
Day 5 - Universal Studios
Day 6 - Typhoon Lagoon waterpark
Day 7 - pool/not at park

Mine are 10 and 6 yrs old. I expect them to be knackered by the end of the week Grin

issynoho · 02/06/2015 15:06

I've been wondering about when to tell the DCs too. If my MIL doesn't blurt it out first and spoil my fun.

We're going Easter 2016. With my in-laws. I am torn between excitement about the trip and dread about 14 days with them. Sorry, just need to offload. They've upgraded themselves on the flight, which I could be pissed off about but at least it means 8 hours to ourselves. God, I am a terrible DIL Grin

BloodyDogHairs · 02/06/2015 15:19

I wouldn't keep it quiet until the actual day, think of the excitement the DC's are missing out on by not helping decide rides, parks, choosing clothes etc who they want to dine with (primark is bursting at the seam with disney clothes/universal).

issynoho · 02/06/2015 15:58

Yeah, you're right, and I don't think I could hold out til we were boarding the plane either Smile. Just need to make sure we agree when to tell them with PILs or I can imagine them blurting it out.

I suppose you want long enough for them to be excited but not so long you can't cope with their over-excitement. I know my 3 will just be fizzing as soon as they know.

HRHsherlockssextoy · 02/06/2015 16:33

What about Whitsun half term? Technically it's a week off school, but there's often an inset at the start, perhaps miss two days at the end of term?

Should give you long enough with only missing two days?

I have mostly been in August/sept. I have also been there when there was a hurricane in September. V quiet in Disney the following day!

It rains a lot in August. Lovely at Easter but super busy.

I like sea world. I always find it relaxing but there is an ethical dilemma with me at the moment. It's a good starter park and we tend to go their first day of holiday.

Busch gardens I think is better than animal kingdom but it's in Tampa which is about an hr away.

Legoland is open. I haven't been and they have a water park too. The Disney water parks are fun!

LollipopViolet · 02/06/2015 19:50

I'm so excited - I'm going to Disney in August! I'm doing Camp America and then doing an escorted tour from New York to Miami, stopping at various places on the way, Disney being one of them (only for 2 days though, so contemplating making my way back to Orlando for a few days in a cheap hotel to do more theme parks - like Universal)

I've definitely got 2 full days - I last went to Disney World when I was 18 months old, over 20 years ago, so I need tips! I'm thinking Magic Kingdom is a must, and maybe Epcot? Then do the other parks if I decide to stay a few more days?

MozzchopsThirty · 02/06/2015 21:25

I thought my dcs would be amazed we were going, I made laminated card things and bought Disney toys etc.
When I gave them as Easter gifts they were totally underwhelmed and ds2 said 'where's my Easter egg' Shock

Now they've actually been if I said we were going again they would be on the ceiling but prior to experiencing it they just didn't get it.

What are other options than Universal? We hated it!
I'm going to book a 14 day Disney pass but would like another option

Zebda · 02/06/2015 21:33

Oooh! We've just booked the flights to Florida for Easter 2016 so this is definitely the thread for me! We are planning to stay in a villa - not booked yet - as 8 of us going, me, DH, DSis, my DPs and 3 DC (12, 8 and 5yo).

My DPs go often so they are in charge of booking accomodation etc, but they havent been with DC since me and DSis were kids (a looong time ago) so looking for plenty of advice/tips on managing the parks

Will read the threads with interest Smile

McKayz · 03/06/2015 06:04

What about Legoland Mozzchops?

Universal is what I am most looking forward too!

McKayz · 03/06/2015 06:26

Has anyone been to Discovery Cove? Would you recommend it? I don't really agree with Sea World so we aren't going there. But is Discovery Cove actually much better?

Just trying to decide on which tickets to get.

OP posts:
BloodyDogHairs · 03/06/2015 08:52

Discovery Cove is amazing! free food, drinks and snacks all day. Every thing is provided including sunscreen. It's well worth the money if you include the other parks on the ticket.

Legoland for me was a waste of a day.

StrawberrytallCake · 03/06/2015 09:43

Ok right, I've added Soarin' to my list now and Discovery Cove which we've never been to before.

Had a dream last night that when we got to our villa it had been rented out like a hotel to 70 other guests, panic!!

I'm also panicking that dd2 might get chicken pox just before leaving (have been reading about that happening to some poor lady on the dibb) and wondering whether to get her vaccinated. Has anyone done this?

StrawberrytallCake · 03/06/2015 09:47

And food is included at Discovery Cove?

McKayz · 03/06/2015 09:55

Legoland is at the top of DH and the boys must see list.

I'll have another look at discovery cove.

OP posts:
BloodyDogHairs · 03/06/2015 09:57

Ah chickenpox....I had a little panic too as a spot appeared on my dd's eye lid, I was like a mad woman checking her every half hour.

Yes you can have breakfast, lunch and dinner all free if you can fit it in Grin
