Help - where to go in Winchester on Sunday

indignatio · 08/11/2006 07:09

I have arranged to meet a friend her dh and dds in Winchester for lunch on Sunday. I have no idea where to book (should have thought of that before now - I know). Ideally it would be somewhere with good food as despite various diets we all love our food - but also somewhere 2 4 yo and one 3 yo would have a good time. The weather is supposed to be cold but not raining - so perhaps a nice pub with decent food and an outside play area

Any suggestions would be gratefully received

I grew up there and by the time I left had an encyclopaedic knowledge of the pubs - there was nothing else to do.

But i havent lived there for 18 years so can't help - thought this would bump it for you.

i know there are quite a few mumsnetters who live in the area so i'm sure someone can help.

It's a bit far from me - tend to go there for shopping but not to eat. Just bumping for you though, and sure someone will be along soon who knows, and that you'll find somewhere lovely.

Watching with interest because Winchester is halfway between my best friend and me...
PLEASE help someone....

Indignatio, I too grew up there and still know it well as my parents still live there. however, I don't tend to go out when I am there, or only at rich father's expense

I have just googled "family pubs in Winchester" and got a few suggestions. Can you do the same as I am not sure what you are looking for?

now then, adadonMumsnet, how old are you and which schools did you go to?

indignatio · 08/11/2006 19:17

Thanks DG - I can google - but would really like a personal (cyber) recommendation

moors valley country park in the new forest is one of my favorite places on earth!
You pay to park (about a fiver) there is an adventure playground, including one built just for littlies, a stream train to ride on, a lake, cafe and all that, tree top trails, a forest walk where every 100 metres or so there is a mini-wooden -animal playground thing, which is great to encourage the kids to walk to see what is coming next. There is loads more going on to and my guess is that it would take about 30 minute down the motorway.

the kids love it too!

TheHighwayCod · 08/11/2006 20:21

hmm moors valley quite a trek fom there - alhtough i reckon it d be a MUCH better day out

indignatio.

i have the same problem, living surrey/hants boarder and friend lives near bicester. We met up in marlow last week. Get to M4 off at jct 8/9 along this dual carriageway road (can't remeber which one!) to really big roundabout turn left, over R. Thames and there is the most amazing outdoor playpark. There's a little outside cafe, hot drinks etc not sure about food though. We took bread for ducks, it's right on the towpath but enclosed. For carpark take first left over bridge and the left again, and park in the leisure center.
The play park had the most amazing stuff in.Hope this helps (used to live near moors valley it's a bit of a trek away from the both of you.)
