Can you recommend a hotel in NYC?

Going for 4 nights in September with my mum. We don't need anything too fancy, just comfortable, safe and clean. Something like a Premier Inn sort of standard.

I was thinking we'd pay about £150/night for a double/twin but this seems to be a total underestimate! Grin

Any recommendations for hotels, or even websites with good deals? Have been looking at Expedia but not very inspired just yet. Thanks!

Unfortunately NYC is not cheap due to overall demand.

Hilton Times Square is nice and rooms go from £184 per night. Stick to the chain based hotels.

I would book direct with the hotel in question and request a room with two queen (double sized) beds.

I used Booking.com recently and have booked the Sheraton Tribeca for £700 for 4 nights.

We stayed at the Comfort Inn which is just off Broadway and literally a 3 minute walk to Times Square, cheap, comfy and good location

Thanks for all the suggestions, will check them out. I think the time we are going is not the cheapest, unfortunately.

Were staying at the marriot Fairfield inn and suites in midtown, not been yet but it had great reviews and is costing us jut over $1000 for 7 nights in July. I'm so excited!!!

CuntWagon · 27/04/2015 22:03

I stayed here www.ameritanianyc.com in March. Got a good rate through Jetsetter, came to £550ish including taxes. Had a huge room, very central.

Ravel hotel. Cheap because it's not in manhattan but 2 stops from the upper east side and the most amazing skyline view from the rooftop bar. I went 6 yrs ago and it was less than £80 a night then.

BarbieBrightSide · 27/04/2015 22:10

I went years ago and stayed in the Hotel Pennsylvania, opposite Madison Square Garden.

Just had a quick look at rooms now and they're a bit more than what you wanted to pay in Septmeber but I know we walked to everywhere we wanted to get to from there, so it was a good location.

And the number is ends 6-5000!

September

Hyatt Times Square - great hotel and central location but I don't know the room rate.

NotCitrus · 28/04/2015 00:09

If budget is an issue, try Brooklyn or uptown Manhattan near the subway - less noisy than downtown, too. Consider the Harlem Flophouse - wonderful decor, only 4 rooms, great location near 125th St.

humlebee7 · 28/04/2015 00:14

We went last sept and stayed in the Belvedere. It was good standard accommodation and ideal location for exploring on foot - Central Park was ten mins walk, times sq and broadway 5 mins and places to go for breakfast/ dinner nearby.

WhenTheDragonsCame · 28/04/2015 00:29

I am going in June for a nights and staying in the Wellington. We paid £800 and something including flights.

The hotel is a couple of streets south of central park and looks nice. We booked through a local travel agents.

manicinsomniac · 28/04/2015 15:56

You don't need to pay high prices if you don't want to.

I've just booked at the Moore Hostel in Brooklyn - £35 ish per person per night for me and my children and we can all share the same dorm room.

Can't recommend it for sure because I haven't been yet but the reviews are good and you can't argue with the price!

manicinsomniac · 28/04/2015 15:57

oh, also - check out airbnb . I didn't get lucky with it this time but they can be amazing.

AttilaTheMeerkat · 28/04/2015 16:10

Avoid airbnb and the like when it comes to NYC. Short term apartment rentals in that particular city are illegal and many such listings can be scams or certainly not as advertised. Avoid therefore at all costs, stay in a hotel instead.

MsGee · 02/05/2015 14:17

We have just booked the Beacon Hotel which gets excellent reviews - I spent 2 days researching hotels prior to booking :)

sweetboysmum · 05/05/2015 21:37

Just back from nyc. We were one budget and gotta great deal with Comfort Inn, Queens including breakfast. Hotel room was very small, I wouldn't recommend taking much luggage. It was however a short walk to the Queensborourg Plaza subway station and really was handy for the city. Was also clean and we could fill up on breakfast ( although I'd recommend tray for room, as small breakfast area). Another time in NYC we stayed at The Roosevelt which was nice and not too pricey.

sweetboysmum · 05/05/2015 21:41

Meant to add that the room at Comfort Inn was approx £100 a night.

Lordofmyflies · 10/05/2015 20:32

Hyatt Times Square. You will save on transport as you can walk everywhere and the rooms are large for NY size. Refurbished 18mths ago so beautifully clean and modern.

WD41 · 10/05/2015 20:40

Country Inn and Suites in Long Island City (Queens).

It's about a 2 min walk from a major subway station (queensboro plaza) and from there about 5 mins into midtown Manhattan.

We got a big clean room with own bathroom and breakfast for a fraction of what we would have paid for anywhere in Manhattan. Would happily stay there again and really recommend it. It was quite nice staying outside the bustle of midtown and seeing a bit more of "authentic" NYC

WD41 · 10/05/2015 20:41

Just saw another poster recommended the same
