I loved it. We went for a week years ago.

Nice harbour and little shops to potter round. Generally a good location for going to places like Portcurno, St Ives, sennan cove.

hulahoopsilove · 20/10/2014 11:11

we want an unspoilt area, nice beach with surfing maybe, pubs, bakery, shops you can walk to as well. Would Mousehole fit the bill?

Mmm, not sure about the beach to be honest. I seem to remember it been a harbour and not a beach as such. But otherwise yes. Nice beaches a short drive away.

VivaLeBeaver · 20/10/2014 11:14

That's the beach. And that's the size of it. So it is a beach on the harbour I seem to remember the water seemed a bit stagnant. I wouldn't have wanted to swim in it.

Have you thought about St Ives?

I would think it's a lovely base for a holiday. And there are plenty of beaches not far away - Porthcurno is near and you aren't far from Marazion. Beautiful area. Mousehole beach itself is just a fishing harbour with boats, buoys, seaweedy walls, ropes and mess. Interesting and good for a mooch but you wouldn't swim there. Good pubs IIRC and a few tiny shops but for food shopping you'd need to go to Penzance

hulahoopsilove · 20/10/2014 11:30

ah not for us then, DS age 9 will want to surf, body board etc... ok maybe in a few years.

We like St Agnes but cant find accommodation for under 1,000 for 1 week!!!!

isnt St Ives a little but touristy???

ElephantsNeverForgive · 20/10/2014 11:33

Sennen Cove if he wants to body board at that sort of age. ST Ives is very busy.

Felyne · 20/10/2014 11:35

I love the name although I've been told it's actually pronounced more like mau-zil than mouse hole!

Felyne · 20/10/2014 11:36

Sorry Mrs Wolowitz just read what you've written! Blush

We love it - we spent our minimoon here and looking to go back in march for our anniversary - lovely restaurants and great walks Grin

Orangeanddemons · 20/10/2014 11:59

Crantock is lovely, and has a fab surf beach. As does Holywell

Littlepicklehead · 20/10/2014 12:07

We go every year (lucky enough to have a family cottage there) and we absolutely do everything on your list.

Mousehole itself is small, but very lovely and has everything in a short walk. Deli which does lovely breakfasts/breads, pubs, gorgeous restaurants, gift shops, galleries, icecream shop. The beaches (there are two) are small but good for a bucket and spades and paddle day. We are getting to the stage where we can have early evening bbqs on the beach with the kids and it's great that it's only 5 mins walk home.

For surfing (surf mad family) we go to sennen, which is v well catered for I that front(surf school, board hire, cafe). Best to get there early to get a parking space.

It's close to at Michaelmas mount and a few other nt sites. Nice walks as well (along the coast to lamorna is a favourite).

Personally I wouldn't have a holiday in at Ives. Maybe a day visit. But IMO, although it's a nice place, parking = nightmare, seagulls = nightmare (Hitchcock esque) and volume of tourists = nightmare.

I've lived in Cornwall and my dad still lives there so I've visited all over, mousehole is definitely still my favourite place (closely followed by Falmouth)

Littlepicklehead · 20/10/2014 12:08

Sorry for typos Blush

hulahoopsilove · 20/10/2014 12:33

Crantock does it have - an unspoilt area, nice beach with surfing maybe, pubs, bakery, shops you can walk to as well.

Yes St Agnes, loved it there and not too far from Truro and Eden Project etc.. so yes really do need somewhere that is close to a largish town if weather is bad say for cinema etc

OP posts:
Littlepicklehead · 20/10/2014 13:12

Sennen is about a 15 min drive. Godfrey is about 30 mins if you wanted to try somewhere else.

I think in Cornwall if you want variation you can't really get away from having to drive. Mousehole is almost as far in to Cornwall as you get get, I will admit that!

Rainy days are a bummer in Cornwall regardless of where you are. There are things to do indoors but not cheap.

We still go surfing in light rain. I like it! Then you go warm up in the pub after. Perfect Grin

Littlepicklehead · 20/10/2014 13:14

Oh and Penzance did used to be grotty, but I was pleasantly surprised this year. There has been some investment and it is improving. There are definitely better places to hang out for a whole day.

Oh and avoid the theme park bit of lands end, utterly dire. Soma amazing walks there though

hulahoopsilove · 20/10/2014 13:29

Im still warning to Mousehole Little pickle head ... again was thinkign of doing Lands End ... what do you mean by Theme park bits?
