Can anyone recommend a really nice little hotel or B&B with good food near a beach that takes dogs too...

Dh, dd the dog and I would like a weekend away soon

Would like to be 2hrs or less from London if poss but a little further fine

Would like to be near a secluded beach

Don't want childcare or any special child things, she can share our bed (so i guess we need a large bed!)

Must be really comfortable and nice and have very good food

TIA

Is Cornwall way too far? I realise it's quite a lot further than 2 hrs from London!
It's just I remember noticing this when we were looking on the Mr and Mrs Smith website and thinking it looked nice.Since the owners have a dog I presume it's pet-friendly.

CountessDracula · 19/09/2006 14:31

Sadly yes is too far

Knoll House in Studland, Dorset. Does have excellent childcare, but also has all the other things you want. Shuts after October half term though.

CountessDracula · 19/09/2006 15:17

Hmm thanks not really my cup of tea

Am not looking for anywhere with anything especially for kids tbh

However as you say it does fulfil evertyhing else and Studland is fab

try mr & mrs smith.com and do advanced search (tick pets welcome) - for counties within reach eg sussex, etc.

yeahinaminute · 19/09/2006 15:23

Try this site :

K9 site thing !!

yeahinaminute · 19/09/2006 15:25

Porthcawl is probably too far is it ?? about 2.5 hrs from London down the m4

We stayed with the pooches and DD at a lovely BandB there - and you can take the dogs on to Rest Bay beach - in fact we went for the day on Sunday and there were dogs galore - in and out of the sea, rock - pooling etc - It was fab !!

CountessDracula · 19/09/2006 15:28

bundle I tried that but it only came up with hotel du vin and the usual luxury family hotel places, not really looking for those. thanks anyway!

On the K9 site they are advertising the Culver House Hotel on the Gower - and it is really lovely - maybe a bit further than you'd like to travel though ??

Try Purdey Lodge in Northumberland - straight up the M1/A1. It's a B&B with a very nice homely pub downstairs and there's a trucker cafe attached to the side that does a wicked fry up. The views are spectacular, it's close to the coast and truly gorgeous beaches, there's lots to do within walking and driving distance and Purdey Lodge is dog friendly.

hi cd. i knew this was you! what about The Crown & Castle at Orford in Suffolk. says well behaved children and dogs (!) welcome in certain rooms.

Bramshott · 19/09/2006 15:59

Ah, you say less than 2 hours from London, which is a shame as I was going to recommend the fab Scarista House !! Might be tad far away though, but is sooooo lovely!

bootsmonkey · 19/09/2006 16:02

Hey CD - the Seaview Hotel in Seaview, Isle of Wight is a lovely little hotel with great food - a posh restaurant and bar snacks too. Don't know about dog status though Seaview Hotel The Priory Bay Hotel is also fab (and also in Seaview - can you see a theme emerging) and takes dogs in the cottage accomodation Priory Bay Hotel Both have lovely beaches with Seagrove Bay and Priory Bay allowing dogs. Lots to do and see on the Island too... Can't beat it and straight down the M3 from you....!

CountessDracula · 19/09/2006 16:02

thanks yeahinaminute

Didn't really like the look of the ones within striking distance of me sadly

BK that looks lovely but Suffolk is a nightmare from us we have vowed never to do again fora a weekend as it always ends up taking 5 hours to drive it...

And if you are happy about kids/dogs on the train, you can get there easily Waterloo to Portsmouth Harbour, hop on the catamaran (10mins) and then either bus (not terribly frequent) or taxi to the hotel. Door to door is possible in under 2 hours, if you get the timing right!
