Letter of permission to travel.

Ds is off on an adventure in a couple of weeks to visit a friend in France.

He is 11 and is travelling with a family friend (different surname). I have been advised that I need to send a letter of permission to travel with him otherwise he will be stopped.

So wise mnetters - what should the letter say and who is it aimed at? Have tried googling but none the wiser!

Thanks

Well that's pretty simple and straightforward!

I had it built it up in my head to a time worthy of war and peace!Grin

Thank you

That's the kind of thing I have written too.

We have taken DDs' cousin on hold with us several times and we have been questioned by customs about her relationship to us. She looks nothing like our family.
We've always been able to produce a letter.

We're usually stopped coming home though, and not leaving the country. (It's at ferry ports if that makes a difference).

Ds is flying which he's mega excited about so if its on the way home chances are I will be waiting in arrivals for him should there be a problem.

He will more than likely be stopped as he looks nothing like his friends family - they are Chinese and we aren't! So best I warn him I suppose.

There is now a MN help page with links to template letters and everything. I'll see if I can find it!

It's got nothing to do with different surnames though, HQ really need to change that bit. It's just minors travelling without both parents.

Thank you

I only ever spend time on active convos, so wasn't even aware of any thing like that was on the site!Blush

Shock We have LOADS of stuff like this Grin

Thanks for the feedback Sangria - we've had a look and while we've given it a different emphasis (children with different names, rather than children travelling without both parents), the issues involved and the steps to take are pretty similar. (We gave it this emphasis because the threads we'd seen had seemed to concentrate more on the name aspect.) Hopefully the content is useful for both sets of circumstances though.

Hi all - just another quick question

If I am still married to the dcs father do we still both have to give parental consent on the letter or will one be enough?

Am assuming one will be fine?
