I need to get a new double buggy. My old one is heavy, wide and clumsy and if I have to use it again I will throw a trantrum. Does anyone have one they can recommend?
Something. light, narrow and easy to steer. Or just one that they have found really easy to use?
Thanks

Hello Kittywits, I promise I'm not stalking you . I found the Mothercare own brand side by side one really easy to steer (easier than my Graco single one I'm using at the moment), easy to fold and get in car boot, and the hood is strong enough for a 3rd child to lie on which obviously I wouldn't recommend!! Can lie flat for newborn and has a see through bit in the hood so you can see them in there HTH

anniediv · 14/09/2006 11:09

And should also add, the only time I didn't fit in a doorway was the 'family' toilet in a Debenhams!

zephyrcat · 14/09/2006 11:10

Hiya - how old are your little ones? Have you thought about a Marco Sky? I first had a marco sky L and didn't get on with it so sold it, missed how handy it was so bought an older style one which was a dream!! It broke eventually and I now hate being without it so am currently on the hunt for another!!

longwaytogo · 14/09/2006 11:15

instep nipper have said it before will say it again. Light at 9kgs, fits through any single door way, because its light its easy to lift into boot on bus etc. Its a bit fiddly to fold but once used to it its a doddle. Wheels come off so if mucky can take off before putting in boot. It lies flat and my two love it even if it is falling apart bless it.

Have I convinced you??

kittywits · 14/09/2006 11:47

Thanks for the ideas ladies I'll go and look them up.
When the next one is born dc #5 will be 15 months

I am easily convinced by anyones' arguments, just have to check out the prices!

I have a phil and teds E3, My dd is 16mths and ds 3mths, what I love about it best is that you can use as a single buggy, I still carry ds around in a sling at the mo coz he's so small(was premature), so buggy is used in single mode. DD loves to walk, but just not practical on our longer trips, the fact that I can add on/ take off a seat as and when I need is fantastic. Folds down pretty well and you can remove wheels if you need - again really easy to do and being a tandem never have any problems with doors, aisles in corner shops etc Sorry I don't know how to add links but if you google phil and teds E3, it's worth a look.

I would have a mountain buggy every time, I have tried them all (except the first wheels one which does also look fab) and hated the phil and teds and almost all of them had something wrong with them except the urban mountain buggy, i really wish i'd splashed out on that in the first place.

Gem13 · 14/09/2006 20:00

Mountain Buggy for me too but I prefer the Terrain - lighter than the Urban. I have tried both - even bought an Urban after trying a friend's and being impressed with the swivel wheel - but I live in a hilly town so weight is an issue especially as the children get heavier too!

I bought both second hand and sold the Urban on ebay for more than I paid for it!

Hated the E3 too and sold that on.

Incidentally I had 18 months between my first 2 and will have 34 months between 2 and 3. The Mountain Buggy will be good for that age gap too.

kittywits · 14/09/2006 21:01

Excuse my ignorance but what is the difference between a mountain bugy type and say a nipper? They are all three wheelers. Is it just in the make?

What about the Jane powertwin?

Gem13 · 14/09/2006 21:58

I love the single Nipper but think the double Nipper is inferior to the double Mountain Buggy. We used a friend's on holiday and the children sloped towards each other.

DS was only just 2 at the time and was wrapped up in coats (and is a big boy) but he didn't seem to have much room in the double Nipper.

yackertyyack · 14/09/2006 22:05

was just about to post a similar question but saw this!! We have just taken back the mothercare hoxton as it was so heavy and hard to steer!! Has anyone got a jane powertwin??? Whats it like? Would it fit in a small car (pegeout 205)

kittywits · 14/09/2006 22:33

Yeah, what about the power twin?!

shazronnie · 14/09/2006 22:38

My friend had a powertwin and her eldest daughter (age 2 when baby born) always seemed too big for the front seat. If she fell asleep she had no headrest.

hitchcock · 14/09/2006 22:42

i have a graco duo sport(i think) really good can get throu 99% of drs get on a bus (easy acc) and both kids can lie down and are really confortable . and also has a massive shopping basket. brought mine for £20.00 second hand a bargin

AngelaChill · 15/09/2006 10:12

The mountain buggy is so much lighter than other 3 wheelers and folds better, has an adjustable handle. You pay for the features like you would with a machine machine, if you don't need the features then a nipper would be perfectly fine too (although the baby style twister would get the 2nd place vote from me)

I have a BabyDan side by side job. It's fairly light, and is v easy to steer. I can even get it on the bus. It was 99 quid on Kiddicare.

quokka · 15/09/2006 10:20

Deffo Phil & teds E3 because you can use it as a single as well. I love mine . You can also get the cocoon which is like a moses basket but you can use it out and about, very uselful for very new babies.

kittywits · 15/09/2006 10:53

Angelachill what's a 'baby style twister'? Am I being particularly stupid?

OP posts:
AngelaChill · 15/09/2006 19:51

Very good value imo www.babybirds.co.uk/SinglesTwister.php

TheBlonde · 15/09/2006 21:49

The twister only comes as a single though, right??

AngelaChill · 15/09/2006 22:24

No i was in a hurry that's a bad link, i'll find the double one

AngelaChill · 15/09/2006 22:29

www.icbaby.com/pages/prams/xts_twin_twister.htm

This comes a very close 2nd to mountain buggy imo.

kittywits · 16/09/2006 10:10

They all all good, I'm still favouring the nipper as it is so light ( or so they say).
I am worried a bit by punctures.
Have many of you with three wheelers experienced many of these? I imagine they're a real pain. Do you have to have lots of spare tyres ?
