Heels99 · 13/07/2014 19:13

Looking for good quality long haul all inclusive with kids club and good beach. Things to see and do in area as we go out and about a lot. Good weather may-June

Have ruled out:
Thailand due to travel insurance issue re recent coup, dh not keen on cruise.
Barbados, st Lucia, Mexico, Antigua, mauritius, Mexico, Grenada, Grenadines, Malaysia, mauritius as have been before and fab though they are use like to try new places.
Budget won't stretch to Maldives or Seychelles
Thinking of ruling out Cuba and Dom rep

Possible New York and carribbean 2 centre, would likely be to Jamaica?

Where have I not considered?

Budget 5200 ish plus spending money

Thanks

I hated Jamaica. Would never return. What about Aruba or Trinidad / Tobago? Just out of interest, why rule out Cuba?

Heels99 · 13/07/2014 19:30

I have looked at Tobago but can't find a good hotel that is on a beach where you can swim. Not found any hotels that fit the bill in Trinidad. Cuba I have heard the food is not very good and we do like nice food on holiday, haven't ruled it out though

Why did you hate Jamaica?

Can you link to any hotels you recommend in Aruba?

The only hotel I could recommend was the Tara Beach in Aruba...unfortunately it's adults only.
Lots to do in the resorts themselves though for all ages - definitely worth a look for a family holiday I'd say.
Jamaica was beautiful - Dunns falls, 7 mile beach etc. The food was pretty poor (I chewed my fair share of chicken's feet that holiday) and I didn't feel safe at all, hassled a LOT, scammers, huge drug use everywhere we went. A bit of a menacing air if I'm honest. We stayed in Trelawny but did days out to Negril and Mo Bay - just not my cup of tea.

Loved Cuba on the other hand. We stayed in Guardlavaca and it pained me to leave. Hopefully we'll get back there next year before the Americanisation kicks in. No problems with food either.

I went to Jamaica about 15 years ago on my first all inclusive trip and loved it. The country is beautiful and the people so friendly and proud of their country. The trips were very good but it was more of a trip place in my experience than a go out on wander on your own place. The hotel we stayed in was only 3 star so probably not high enough for you but my family really enjoyed it. We stayed at the holiday Inn
I know you mentioned You have been to Mexico but have you tried the Pacific side, it's really nice? Somewhere such as Cabo or Puerto Vallatra (good out and about place). Another option is one of the Club Med holidays such as the one in Miami, lots of activities for the whole family.
Would you consider Dubai? Lots to do there and really luxurious hotels. Only a few are all inclusive but lots do half board with a wide choice of restaurants so it feels like a proper night out.
Or Bahamas perhaps?

Forgot to say I also loved Cuba, we did a twin centre in Playa Pesquero and then flew Havanna.

foxdongle · 13/07/2014 21:13

Margarita - can't recommend a hotel as we were on a cruise but loved the place. La Restinga national park, fantastic empty beaches, warm sea, trips to Venezuela, waterparks.

We also loved Jamaica, but we went to a beaches hotel pre dcs and it was over 16's only

Heels99 · 13/07/2014 21:26

Thanks all

Margarita sounds lovely but I am not finding any hols from the uk there

Can you link to the relevant hotels in Cuba and Mexico? I will have a look at club med Miami

Thanks all

No I can't either- just had a quick look. Sure you used to be able to. shame.

KenDoddsDadsDog · 13/07/2014 22:36

My neighbours just went to Sensatori Jamaica. Looked beautiful.

Heels99 · 14/07/2014 09:55

I think sensatori Jamaica is out of our budget, as is beaches.

The hotel I went to in Cuba was called Playa Costa Verde and was very nice. There was kids club there but we didn't use it so I can't comment on how good it was. I really liked the beach and enjoyed the food and shows in the evening. The DC really enjoyed the ice cream kiosk and we all had a fun night at the Japanese restaurant.

Heels99 · 14/07/2014 10:51

Thank you!

Mexico is absolutely marvellous for a family holiday. Have a look at Dreams Tulum. Near the ruins, close to a sink hole to go swimming in, gorgeous beaches (haven't stayed in the hotel, but know Tulum well)
Alternatively, not quite long haul, but there are fantastic hotels in Muscat, Oman and there are some great desert / wadi trips and Muscat itself is lovely. Will be hot though - would go earlier than late June (the resorts tend to shut July / August as it's simply too hot)

Longdistance · 14/07/2014 11:06

We loved Antigua. We stayed at The Grand Pineapple. Also, St. Lucia was great, we stayed at Morgan Bay iirc.

As for Thailand, I thought Bangkok should be avoided. We stayed at Club Med Phuket. Great kids club.

Heels99 · 14/07/2014 12:56

Yes we loved Antigua and st Lucia but want to go somewhere we haven't been. Thailand's off the list for this year due to travel insurance, it was our first choice till then. Hopefully wilbecome option again in future

Bristol rover we stayed at dreams tulum this year. It was fab but don't really want to go back again so soon next year

ChickenFajitaAndNachos · 14/07/2014 13:03

Is Krabi, Phuket etc iffy or is it just Bangkok as I fancy going next year?

BristolRover · 14/07/2014 13:07

was it lovely? I'd love to go back with the kids and stay in luxury instead of a sand floored cabana with a hammock!

Heels99 · 14/07/2014 13:09

I don't think anywhere is iffy as in problems but foreign office advice is that check travel insurance as disruption caused by coup may not be covered.

OP posts:
Heels99 · 14/07/2014 13:10

Bristol, yes it was a great place to stay with kids

OP posts:
ChickenFajitaAndNachos · 14/07/2014 13:11

Oh thank you, I will check it out.

Heels99 · 14/07/2014 13:12

Chicken I just don't want to end up incurring additional cost due to some coup related disruption and not be insured when we could another time and not have that worry

ChickenFajitaAndNachos · 14/07/2014 13:14

I totally get it, plus it would be on your mind instead of just relaxing and looking forward to the holiday.
