European holiday villa recomendations

Just starting to think about possibilities for next Summer. We will be going away around mid July - DD will break up around the 13/14 I think.

May be considering going away with PILs and BIL/SIL - so there would be 3 couples, a 5yo and a 1yo. So would need 4 bedrooms and either 2/3 bathrooms. Want a private pool. We will be getting car hire from the airport, but want somewhere not too big a drive. DH, BIL and FIL fancy a game of golf or two, so needs to be within driving distance of that.

So far we have considered Portugal, Spain, Italy or South of France, but open to other ideas.

Anyone know of any nice villas, not costing the earth ideally (less than £3k please), somewhere nice?

Thank you!

Any ideas? Or any websites you have used and found good?

MIL is favouring the idea of South of France at the moment.

here

try la perla living - I think that's what it's called. we've had two villas in the Dordogne from them. they were in slightly less touristy places but kitted out to a very high standard including pools. from memory they were reasonably priced as well.

hulababy · 31/07/2006 16:05

Beautiful but at over £3000 a week!

hula be are paying 2000 a week!

hulababy · 31/07/2006 16:07

Just looking at what is quoted on the availability page. Says 4800 Euros for July per week. Not sure we would have the £6000k budget TBH, not when we have to add flights and car hire, etc. on top of it all,

It does looks wonderful place though.

i know we got it cheap as it is amazing but not sure why..you could always ask I guess...

We did book very last minute so perhpas that is why.

hulababy · 31/07/2006 16:12

I will try and contact them for a definte 2007 quote.

I am suprised at how expensive villas are in Europe compared to what we paid in Florida full stop TBH. It will cost well over double for the same size villa!

My friend has 2 x 3 bed villas near Denia. The one we have just returned from is probably too small for your clan, but was very spacious for 4' adults and one child. I could however get her Spanish Agents details and pass them on. They manage some larger properties in the same area.

Gingerbear · 31/07/2006 22:06

lol, 4 adults (we are all over 5' tall, just!)

soapbox · 31/07/2006 22:10

we are off here on Saturday, I can let you know what it is like when we get back if you like the look of it:)

hulababy · 31/07/2006 22:11

LOL @ 4'

Thanks GB. However it looks like we are now settled on South of France. We went last year and loved the area, and PILs are keen to visit as never been before.

Soapbox, Javea is lovely! Great (if busy) beach for kids( sandy, shallow sea for quite a way out etc), lots to do and good bars and restaurants.

hulababy · 31/07/2006 22:16

That does look very nice soapbox

Thanks GB

We've never been on a beachy holiday to Spain before and have been worrying a little about what it will be like!

Gingerbear · 31/07/2006 22:18

Hula, the coast is lovely, but the Jalon Valley and mountain villages are beautiful. We drove up one day: such a contrast (and much cooler!) to the bustling resorts.

Gingerbear · 31/07/2006 22:22

Javea has lots of Brits - retired ex-pats or people with holiday homes, but it is the complete antithesis of Benidorm and similar resorts. There are only a handful of hotels, and the old town, about 2 miles inland from the beach is lovely - traditional Spanish town, winding narrow streets, plazas with cafes and nice shops (and a good market at least twice per week)

thewomanwhothoughtshewasahat · 31/07/2006 22:22

if you fancy a bit of character this is where we went . definitely shabby but definitely chic. plenty big enough and - from the looks of those other sites, excellent value.

soapbox · 31/07/2006 22:24

Ohh ohh ohh! Excited emotion overload!

That is sounding better and better GB

So you'd recommend that we spend some time up in the mountains then???

Gingerbear · 31/07/2006 22:24

I like Spain, I do.

soapbox · 31/07/2006 22:24

Meant to say, Beety your place looks fabby

Need to see what friends we can convince to come away with us next year to the Sof France

soapbox · 31/07/2006 22:26

Hat - it sleeps 23

I thought we were bad enough for booking a 4 bed place for 4 of us

But I'd have to invite a lot of friends to your place if I don't want to look like billy no mates
