Hello,

We usually go to West Wittering with our 3yr old DS but have also heard about East Beach at Littlehampton and was wondering if anyone had been and would you recommend it?

Or anywhere else that's nice for families on the sussex coast?

thanks

Climping beach is lovely and it's also little known so won't be too busy. Take nets and you can catch crabs and shrimps. We love Climping beach.

spidermama · 29/06/2006 20:35

It's also near Littlehampton btw.

puddle · 29/06/2006 20:36

spidermama is climping sandy or stones?

rabbitrabbit · 29/06/2006 20:36

Thanks for that spidermama, will look it up and give it a go

FrannyandZooey · 29/06/2006 20:38

OOOOOH

Climping Beach

Some of my happiest childhood memories are from the sand dunes at Climping

Bracklesham Bay is also great fun and full of fossils - v exciting indeed.

foxinsocks · 29/06/2006 20:38

have you been to Hayling Island? It's a sort of child heaven adult hell but it has a shingle beach (with some sand when the sea goes out - fabulous shells), an outdoor play area in sand and a permanent funfair. Not the sort of place to go if you don't fancy going on the rides, but quite fun if you do.

spidermama · 29/06/2006 20:41

It's a good mixture. There are also rocky bits for catching creatures. It banks onto countryside which is great. There's nothing there, apart from an ice cream van in the car park some days, so you need to bring a picnic.

spidermama · 29/06/2006 20:42

Franny. I didn't know you hailed from Sussex. Come back. It's great here.

rabbitrabbit · 29/06/2006 20:44

f&z - we've seen lots of signs for Bracklesham Bay and have always been tempted to go but haven't as yet so will definitely give that a try.

foxinsocks-thanks for that. I think we'll do the Hayling Island trip when we have my 12yr old niece down in the summer holidays (perhaps!).

Ah, yes, but...

actually I am coming back tomorrow, Spidey

very temporarily

foxinsocks · 29/06/2006 20:45

yes definitely not the first place I would choose!

spidermama · 29/06/2006 20:46

Franny I'm doing a picnic in the park with a friend and another MNer in the afternoon. Join us?

FrannyandZooey · 29/06/2006 20:47

Rabbit, if you read up a little on what you are looking for before you go, it will increase your chances of finding something

The children can walk along the beach and find real shark's teeth - how cool is that?

what to look for at Bracklesham

FrannyandZooey · 29/06/2006 20:49

Oh I wish, Spidey

Am visiting Aged Ps for the weekend

Am doing Crawley folk festival on Sunday though

Next time I will give you more warning and we could do something

FrannyandZooey · 29/06/2006 20:49

Actually I lie, we're going to Crawley on Saturday

rabbitrabbit · 29/06/2006 20:50

Thanks for that f&z. My son would probably pass out with the excitement of it (or is that dh...? i honestly couldn't say which enjoys these trips more.)

FrannyandZooey · 29/06/2006 20:51

It is so exciting, rabbit

I still have some of my childhood finds, and remember walking along the beach as being a very happy time indeed. I hope you all have some great days out.

spidermama · 29/06/2006 20:52

Another time F&Z. Cover up at the festy. It's going to be a scorcher.

rabbitrabbit · 29/06/2006 20:53

Thanks again. And you're right, these sort of days are just brilliant. My son just loves them and he's just so cute covered in sand, completely exhausted but chattering about it for days to come.

Thanks for all the suggestions-I will post up some pics and hope it brings back some good memories for you all.

bracklesham bay sounds lovely - the kids would love to go fossil hunting - I had never heard of it

(rabbit, did you get a place in a pre-school in Tedd in the end?

rabbitrabbit · 29/06/2006 21:00

Hi Fox, yes and no to the pre-school! (I know, makes no sense).
I didn't actually like the really well regarded playgroup that I went to see but was then told about one in Hampton Hill which starting sessions of 2hrs twice-weekly so we started there.
Having said that my ds has been ill so we haven't been able to go for weeks!
He did get a place at Collis though (great news) and he starts in Jan 07 - we'll be the poor fools crying at the gates .

Bracklesham Bay does look lovely-I also found this site: fossil info

I'm going off now to watch the last episode of House so just want to say thanks again.

is he going into reception or nursery?

rabbitrabbit · 30/06/2006 19:54

He's going into nursery, so we get to do it all again for reception!
How old are your children?

OP posts:
foxinsocks · 30/06/2006 19:57

one will be 6 in August and the other 5 in November. My youngest is just finishing in the nursery so your ds will be the year below my youngest.
