mozz.....Did you start a post about driving in Florida? I commented on it if it was you lol tho I've name changed since then.....the superwoman comment rings a bell Grin

MozzchopsThirty · 26/04/2015 11:21

Haha yes probably, still can't believe I did it Smile

chairmeoh · 26/04/2015 14:54

We flew indirect and saved about £1k. Flew with American airlines, booked through Expedia. 2 adults, 1 child.
It was a bit hairy on the way out as we only had a short window to transfer to the second flight during which time we had to collect out luggage and re-check it in, as well as the inevitable long wait at immigration. But rest went smoothly.
I'm a pretty nervous flyer and would far rather fly direct if we go again (take off and landing are the hits that make me tremble the most).

AnneEyhtMeyer · 26/04/2015 18:13

I have heard good reports of savings flying indirect, but I don't fancy it. Also wouldn't fancy using a US carrier.

nikki1978 · 27/04/2015 12:56

Friends of mine flew indirect recently and said it was a nightmare with tired children, running around airports and nearly missing flights. Its certainly a good option for those needing to save money but I personally couldn't be dealing with it.

BloodyDogHairs · 28/04/2015 09:22

Actual can't believe I only now have 40 days to wait!!

Loletta, this is why we book our flights first - it's such a worry otherwise. But even if you have to lose a day at the hotel here or there it may be worth it to get a cheaper flight on a different day (you can't fly back after your hotel date of course but you could fly back earlier if necessary).

I can't imagine they will be £2k per person, I've never heard of that sort of money. Why don't you have a look at prices for this August, to give you an idea?

emkana · 28/04/2015 22:48

We booked in February for August with BA and paid £1200 per flight

Loletta we booked with BA in January and prices really have doubled since then, I'm sure you'll be fine.

HalfATankini · 30/04/2015 13:43

Hi,

We're thinking of doing a two centre Florida trip summer 2016 and all I can persuade DH to do we fancy is 3 or 4 days at the end at Disney.

The problem is that it seems that the tickets are incredibly expensive for this - almost cheaper to get a 14 day ticket?!? Is this right? And for such a short trip should we aim for a disney hotel or is there no point? We're not bothered about character breakfasts or anything like that but I thought it might be better to be close to the parks.

The more I read the more befuddled I become...

Thank you!

LucasNorthsTwiglets · 30/04/2015 14:45

Yes, the 14 day tickets are the cheapest you'll get from the UK (as far as I know!) Well, they are actually 7 days tickets but most people are offering a 14 day for the same price as a 7 day. Hwoever, you can buy US tickets from the UK as well and a 3 of 4 day 'Magic Your Way' will work out cheaper than these for you (a 4 day ticket is about £200). Have a look at Undercover Tourist, they're well respected.

BloodyDogHairs · 30/04/2015 18:00

If you are only doing 3/4 days have you thought about Universal or Sea world/Discovery Cove? You'd get more for your money at these parks rather than trying to squeeze in Disney.

HalfATankini · 30/04/2015 18:28

Thank you both. bloody I hadn't really thought of universal. My kids will be 9,8 and 4 and I wondered if universal would be too old for them? I'll look into it though thanks!

LucasNorthsTwiglets · 30/04/2015 19:08

Oh, Universal is AMAZING, you can't miss that! They're a perfect age, I think (there will be lots that the 4yo can't go on but also lots for him/her to do).

Personally I'm not a fan of SeaWorld - not for ethical reasons, there just isn't that much there in comparison to other parks. Universal is definitely cheaper than Disney but you can't do Florida and not do Disney! :)

BloodyDogHairs · 30/04/2015 19:35

Agree about Seaworld, it used to be my favourite park but I went last year and left after a few hours. I stupidly watched blackfish a few weeks before our holiday so it kind of put a dampener on the day.

I know others still love it tho.

I'm starting to wish I had got Universal tickets for this year too instead of just disney as my DC's are all Marvel fans so would absolutely love it if we went again.

chairmeoh · 01/05/2015 08:11

Hmm. DD is 7 and we didn't enjoy Universal very much.
Didn't help that it was Easter/Spring Break, but it was very crowded. And the park is more closely packed rather than the spacious disney parks.
But most of all, there wasn't very much she was interested in.
She isn't into Harry potter yet, she was too small for the bigger rides, and the Dr Seuss rides were a bit 'young' for her.
The queues were awful, so if we did it again we'd stay at a universal hotel to get the fast passes.

LucasNorthsTwiglets · 01/05/2015 09:50

Shame you didn't enjoy Universal, chairmeoh - I bet Spring Break was hideously busy :( My kids are 12 and 7 and we all adore it there - they don't go on the big rides there (neither do I!) but they love Spiderman, ET, Despicable Me, Men In Black, The Simpsons, the Curious George playgrounds, the raft rides, Transformers... they find loads to do and we always run out of time. They do love the Seuss rides as well though, even though eldest is 12yo :)

Dog it's 'only' another £130 for Universal - you know you want to Grin

BloodyDogHairs · 01/05/2015 10:01

I know, I priced it up last night after posting here Grin we've decided that if we have enough dollars left on our last full day we'll just pay the gate price. Pricey but I'm not sure I want a 14 day ticket universal on top of a 14 day disney.

The huge simpsons donuts look amazing!

BloodyDogHairs · 01/05/2015 10:16

It would cost $430 at the gate Shock for my family.

AnneEyhtMeyer · 01/05/2015 11:38

We don't bother with Universal - we've been in the past but don't find it worth it. There is more than enough to do at the Disney parks.

We also don't do Seaworld / Discovery Cove for ethical reasons. I just couldn't enjoy myself somewhere like that.

LucasNorthsTwiglets · 01/05/2015 14:34

Yeah, apparently the 14 day Universals are cheaper than 2 on the gate days!

BloodyDogHairs · 01/05/2015 16:21

I know Sad I see there is now a option of purchasing just a 2 park ticket for disney from Florida Tix (I think it was) now which would have suited us better as we I would've been happy just doing MK and HS. I might see if DH wants to drop our days doing smaller attractions and go for the universal tickets.....but thats a extra £500 and I could get my garden sorted for that amount of money Thanks

BloodyDogHairs · 06/05/2015 12:07

Oh its getting close to my 30 day fp...The excitement is just too much Grin

Any luck on the BOG reservation yet Lucas
