Definitely good idea to take surprises for wee ones on the plane.

My 2 smaller ones' longest flight is 2 and a half hours so I'm feeling a bit concerned about the Florida flight, although they are very excited about having their own screen and choice of film!

LucasNorthsTwiglets · 29/01/2015 07:56

I found the flight a lot easier with my kids than I expected. At home, DS (6yo at the time) wouldn't sit still for an hour to watch a video but he watched the TV for ages there because there was no other choice.

Definitely loose clothes for the flight and layers. It can be hot or cold so you need the option :)

Anyone got snow?

Just flurries here, not laying Smile

BaconAndAvocado · 29/01/2015 16:43

None of the white stuff here (Kent) Sad

ChestyTheSnowman · 29/01/2015 16:54

Oh yes! I'm East yorkshire. Only lasted 10 mins Sad

babylily · 29/01/2015 19:10

I have amassed a trunki full of entertainment, jelly babies,.....and general tat!
We went on BA's website and they have chosen their movies and programmes.
We have about 3 inches of snow and it has been below zero for the past week!!!!
We will be shedding layers as we go if the cold weather lasts through until next weekend (It is now 9 and a half sleeps as we have to get up at 3.30 am to get to the airport for the first flight).

Has anyone experience of the quick service dining plan? I am just wondering if we should be budgeting for an extra meal a day (we get two meals and a snack) or if the portions are American sized Grin

BloodyDogHairs · 30/01/2015 10:30

I'm booked up for June Grin

My two DC's will be 1 & 3, would I be best to take my double buggy or take my single and buy a cheap walmart one. I'm staying on international drive so might use the bus service and leave the car at the hotel. Not sure if a double buggy would be a pain on the transport.

LucasNorthsTwiglets · 30/01/2015 10:58

Congrats on the booking, DogHairs! I've never used a double buggy or public transport so can't help I'm afraid. But won't you have to take the 2 singles on the bus anyway, which can't take up more room than a double? (Or maybe the idea is that you can fit 2 singles side by side but can't fit a double on?) If nobody here knows, ask The Dibb - they know everything! :)

Jackieharris · 30/01/2015 17:16

I'd read that they make you fold up all buggys in busses in Florida.

BloodyDogHairs · 30/01/2015 18:20

Oh do they! I have never attempted to go on public transport with my double before so I think I'm going to just take one and buy a lightweight one over there if need be.

ChestyTheSnowman · 03/02/2015 06:49

Snow and lots of it Sad

230 sleeps!

frankblackswife · 03/02/2015 07:03

The plan was that we weren't going to go this year and have a year off....well that didn't last long Grin. Just booked 14 nights from 21st December. Staying at Old Key West, booked via Disney direct.
We've been at Christmas before but never for Christmas Day - I am beyond excited!

LucasNorthsTwiglets · 03/02/2015 09:00

Oh wow, Christmas at Disney, how wonderful! I went on Christmas Day years and years ago and it was magical (but vvv.crowded!) It will be incredible.

Jackieharris · 03/02/2015 10:29

If you don't have to plan around school holidays, want it warm enough to enjoy the water parks but not too hot and with as few crowds as possible at the best price what is the best time of year to do Orlando?

We are planning on 2016. Will probably book a fly drive & separate villa. Will stay 14 (maybe 21) nights and go to all the parks inc Kennedy space centre & Busch gardens. The park ticket prices are much high than I expected!
(2 adults, DCs 13, 8 & baby)

Our budget is £6k and that seems doable.

LucasNorthsTwiglets · 03/02/2015 10:34

I think spring or autumn is best, Jackie but def avoid Easter. We're going in October this year and that's supposed to be lovely but haven't been at that time of year before. I would've said late April (after Easter)/May is supposed to be glorious but it was unseasonally hot for us in May last time - we are wimps with the heat though :)

LucasNorthsTwiglets · 03/02/2015 10:35

If you're looking at a villa then you can't beat one in Oak Island Harbour/Formosa Gardens area as far as I'm concerned!

BaconAndAvocado · 03/02/2015 20:56

Lucky you chesty we had a half hearted flurry onto the wet so lots of slush Sad

ChestyTheSnowman · 04/02/2015 17:55

The thick ice today and a windscreen that kept refreezing wasn't so lucky this morning Bacon Sad

How's the planning going?

BaconAndAvocado · 04/02/2015 20:34

Hmm fair comment about windscreen, I always forget where I've put the de-iced!

Planning going well. I can book my first ADR next week, Cinderella's Royal Table for, breakfast on....our......first.......full.......day!!!

Have started thinking about what Fastpasses to book in 5 months time

How old are your DCs chesty ? We've got quite a big age range so,it's going to be difficult to,please everyone, unless we just split into 2 groups in the parks and never see each other!

LucasNorthsTwiglets · 05/02/2015 10:32

Fastpasses are my favourite thing to plan. Last time we went, I typed out all our Fastpasses and laminated them in little credit card sized notes so that we could keep them in our pocket for easy reference :) Does everyone know about the My Disney Experience app, so that you can change your Fastpasses easily when you're there if you need to?

Bacon, Child Swap will probably be your friend with a big age range. There are almost 5 years between my two but I'm lucky that they are exactly the same level of bravery as each other so we can all do things together (ie. the little one is brave and the big one's a wimp :D)

BloodyDogHairs · 05/02/2015 13:16

How does the fastpasses work these days, is it better to select the rides from home or arrive at the park early and choose from there?

I'm just about to order my Disney tickets from Attraction Tickets Direct and have not used the fast pass option before.

ChestyTheSnowman · 05/02/2015 16:26

Ha Ha Bacon don't laugh but I don't have any Blush

I want to book ADRs and FP now too Envy

I've got MDE all ready to go Lucas just waiting for Disney tickets to arrive.

BaconAndAvocado · 05/02/2015 18:05

Wow chesty Disney without the bickering, constant fall outs and stress......how lucky are you?!

Tee hee lucas I also have a very small person with a daredevil streak! Remind me how the Child Swap thang works?

And, why would you need to change your fast passes when you're there?

Laminating your Fastpasses has to be the Holy Grail of Disney Planning. I bow down to thee Grin

bloody I think which isn't saying much you need to get a My Disney Experience account and plan them beforehand. That's what I'm going to do so please correct me all you Mouse fans if I'm wrong!

LucasNorthsTwiglets · 06/02/2015 09:01

Doghairs you definitely want to choose your FP selections from home if you can, especially if you're visiting at a busy time. That way you will get the best choice and some FPs run out very quickly so they may be gone by the time you get to the park. Also it just wastes time to queue in the parks to use the FP machines there.

Bacon, you might want to change FPs when you're there if your plans change. For example, last time I booked FPs from home - the first one was at 10am but on the day we couldn't make it there that early so, rather than lose the FP, I was able to change it to a later time. Or sometimes we decided to visit a different park instead, so swapped FPs to a different day.

The Child Swap thing is for if you have a child that is too small/doesn't want to ride, both parents can ride without having to queue twice. Parent 1 queues for the ride as normal whilst Parent 2 waits somewhere else with the child. Parent 1 comes off the ride and waits with the child and Parent 2 can then go straight onto the ride without queueing. The arrangements are slightly different at each ride (sometimes you get a Child Swap ticket, sometimes you wait at the ride exit) - just tell the staff memeber on the entrance that you want to child swap. If you have other children in the party who DO want to ride, they can go with each parents ie. they get to ride twice :)

LucasNorthsTwiglets · 06/02/2015 09:02

Also, I did giggle at this: "Laminating your Fastpasses has to be the Holy Grail of Disney Planning. I bow down to thee" Grin My family joke that they're frightened to stand still or I might laminate them :)
