Have had a Disney planning-free day today so starting to go cold turkey Grin

Will get back on the Dibb later for my fix!

I've already started planning our holiday 2016, to,somewhere more relaxing but people have said you never do Disney just the once.........

ChestyTheSnowman · 21/01/2015 16:48

Help!.....

Anyone have any knowledge of the Halloween parties?

We're there 21st to 5th October. So based on last years dates do you think MNSSHP will be on thurs 24th and HHN on thurs 1st?

So maybe best to book night at universal on Monday 28th? Hmm

ChestyTheSnowman · 21/01/2015 16:49

Ps Bacon I'm already thinking when I can go again after this one, relaxing shmaxing Grin

LucasNorthsBaubles · 21/01/2015 17:02

Do you mean 21st October to 5th November, or 21st September to 5th October? I am crazy-busy for the next few hours but will get back to you about this when the kids are in bed! (also will get back about tickets, as promised, canshop).

ChestyTheSnowman · 21/01/2015 17:25

September to October.....thanks lucas no rush Flowers

BaconAndAvocado · 21/01/2015 18:15

Tee hee chesty

I may well feel the same way after August! Having said that, we wanted to take my parents on holiday with us next year and I don't think they'd be able to cope with the heat!

ChestyTheSnowman · 21/01/2015 18:43

Could do a different time of year when it's cooler Wink

whattodoowiththeleftoverturkey · 21/01/2015 19:05

slightlyjaded snap! We've just booked for Easter. Have got our tickets but now feeling slightly overwhelmed! I think we'll do a loose plan for each day including a couple of 'special' meals and particular things such as evening events etc.
We've got a condo in kissimee and are still debating whether or not to hire a car for the whole 2 weeks or just the days we want to go to universal and Kennedy.

Canshopwillshop · 21/01/2015 21:41

Chesty - thanks for the info. I wondered about Animal Kingdom but is it similar to Busch Gardens or have I got that wrong? I've heard that Epcot might not be as interesting as other parks for kids my age. Will have a look at Hollywood as haven't really considered there.

Castlecellar · 21/01/2015 22:14

Hi, I'm planning to go to Orlando with my husband and 15 yr and 14yr DDs in the easter holidays 2016. Spoke to Virgin holidays this evening and got some prices. Is it cheaper to buy the theme park tickets through Virgin or buy them online or when you get there? They are offering the flexi ticket and Disney 14 ticket but they haven't broken the price down so I'm not sure what I'm paying for them.
Thanks

BaconAndAvocado · 21/01/2015 22:42

chesty I work in a school so August is the only time I could go. I've heard Easter is mad busy because of,the US Spring Break and I wouldn't want to go at Christmas for same reason, and I do like my Christmasses (?) to be English stylie.

I just wish I'd booked for,the last 2 weeks of August as that's when the American kids have gone back to school......

ChestyTheSnowman · 21/01/2015 22:53

Yes bacon I gather the last 2 weeks of August are quieter.
I wouldn't want to do Christmas either.

can I'm not sure about Busch gardens as haven't been. I was not bothered about AK but really enjoyed it. "It's tough to be a bug" was fabulous, think we did it 3 times Blush
I wasn't enamoured with Epcot but really enjoyed Hollywood studios but guess it's personal choice.

I think there's a Discovery cove ticket that includes sea world, aquatica and Busch gardens. Are you doing the dolphin swim? I'm considering upgrading to a celebration package in order to book a cabana early. It really is heaven.

Castle I think your best buying your tickets before you go especially for Disney if your planning fast passes or ADRs.

There's a ticket section on the Dibb with lots of trusted sellers. Decide what parks you want to do and price them up. I'm not sure of virgins pricing.

We went Easter 2013 and I think planning is the key as it was really busy.
Definitely book ADRs for the Easter weekend as we didn't for one night and really struggled to get a table anywhere.

Toy story mania at Hollywood studios is also crazy busy so planning Fast passes for that.

BaconAndAvocado · 21/01/2015 23:02

Ohh, "It's Tough to be a Bug"....... I'm a bit of an arachnophobe! Is it very creepy?

ChestyTheSnowman · 21/01/2015 23:06

No it really was fantabulous!! It's all very a bugs life no big scary spiders.

BaconAndAvocado · 21/01/2015 23:11

Good, I don't do big scary spiders.

Loving the excited dance Smile

ChestyTheSnowman · 21/01/2015 23:14

it's a smaaaaall world aaafter aaaallll Grin

I shouldn't discuss holiday before bed, I'll never sleep!

BaconAndAvocado · 21/01/2015 23:23

It's my eyes that are suffering from all the disney planning screen time!

I really hope the DCs appreciate the blood, sweat and tears that have gone into this holiday........

And I really REALLY hope that the holiday lives up to the expectations!

nikki1978 · 21/01/2015 23:23

Hi all,

We are going in 117 days now :) 18th May to 1st June. Flying with virgin, staying in villa for 11 nights then 3 nights on Disney Dream doing the Bahamas :)

I have done 3 ADRs as we are staying off site. Kids passports sent off last week for renewal. Just need to sort travel insurance and ESTAs.

BaconAndAvocado · 21/01/2015 23:34

Hi nikki Wow! A Disney cruise! Have you done one before?

ChestyTheSnowman · 21/01/2015 23:57

Envy our is ages away.

Estas done here and travel insurance.

Think going to book RPR this week and then just HHN and MNSSHP when they come out.

How old are they Bacon?

ABeautifulLie · 22/01/2015 01:25

Bacon there is a small part if It's Tough To Be A Bug where spiders come down from the ceiling. My son has arachnophobia and he just keeps his cap on and doesn't look up.

Canshopwillshop · 22/01/2015 07:59

Thanks again Chesty - venturing into Dibb today - is my life going to be completely taken over??!

nikki1978 · 22/01/2015 09:40

No I've never been on a cruise before. My parents have and they are coming on the holiday with us. This will actually be our first holiday abroad as a family. My kids are 10 and 8 and have never been on a plane so they are very excited! I went to Orlando when I was 16 so about 20 years ago now.

ChestyTheSnowman · 22/01/2015 09:59

Ha ha probably Can I hope you don't have anywhere to be for say the next week!

I'm off work sick this week so have nothing to do but drive myself into a Disney frenzy Grin

The cruises look lovely nikki but I get seasick just looking at a boat.

LucasNorthsBaubles · 22/01/2015 10:16

Right, mega reply time! :)

Chesty, you need to book RPR ASAP if you have particular dates in mind for October. I've already had to change my dates because there wasn't a room available. I'm going to book ours today. I guess HNN is affecting it?

Is it cheaper to buy the theme park tickets through Virgin or buy them online or when you get there?

I'd say book online but I don't know what Virgin's prices are. Definitely don't buy on the gate. See below for ticket info!

Anyone have any knowledge of the Halloween parties? We're there 21st to 5th October. So based on last years dates do you think MNSSHP will be on thurs 24th and HHN on thurs 1st? So maybe best to book night at universal on Monday 28th?

I've no idea about MNSSHP but HHN are usually on Thursday-Sunday (ie. not Mon & Tues). I'm booking my hotel based on this but it could change when the dates are announced later on. Sorry, I can't remember whether you are wanting to go to HNN or avoid it. If you want to avoid it then I'd go on either Monday 28th or Tuesday 29th. Remember that even when HHN is on at Universal, Islands should still be open.

I haven't booked park tickets yet as the choice of packages is a bit confusing and overwhelming! However, these are the parks I think we want to do - Universal (both), Busch Gardens, Sea World, Discovery Cove, Magic Kingdom, Aquatica plus a day at the Space Centre. That's 8 in total - is that too much? We would like a couple of spare days to chill at our resort or maybe visit a beach. Any thougts/suggestions?

Personally I wouldn't waste time going to be a beach in FL but that's just me. It's not like they are world-class Bahamas-style beaches. 8 parks in 12 days is easily doable. Personally I'd reckon on doing a park for every day of your holiday with one rest day per week.

Also any recommendations about where to get best ticket deals?

Yep :) I'd go to Attraction Tickets Direct to decide what you want but don't worry about the price at this stage. I don't usually buy the combination packages as they don't suit us best but you'll want to price them up to see if they work for what you want. It's a bit misleading when they say combination tickets - you don't get one ticket that includes entry to certain parks, you get the individual park's tickets that you can buy separately and they just sell you all the tickets at a slightly reduced price. It's what's included in the combination tickets that is relevant - eg. no use buying a combo if it includes a 7 day Disney but you want more than 7 days there. So you can look at the individual tickets and decide what you want, then see which, if any, combo packages offer them. One reason to avoid combinations is if you're going to Discovery Cove. DC tickets are never included in the combinations so you have to buy them separately. But when you buy a DC ticket you get free entry to other parks (see below!) so there's no point in paying for a combo ticket that includes these parks when you're getting them free with your DC ticket anyway. As I'm typing all this I'm realising I'm probably confusing you even more! :) So, we buy individually, as follows:

  1. Discovery Cove: if you are going there, then you need to decide whether you want to go to Busch Gardens. Discovery Cove tickets include entrance to SeaWorld and Acquatica (check this when you book!) but their Ultimate ticket also includes Busch Gardens for not much more money (definitely cheaper than buying separate entrance to Busch).
  1. Universal: You need a ticket with park-to-park access (sometimes called a Hopper). I think the 2 park Bonus Ticket would suit you best. This gives you unimited access to both parks for 14 days. Even though you won't be going there for 14 days it's cheaper than buying 2 days on the gate.
  1. Disney: We usually get the Ultimate tickets. These give you unlimited access to all Disney parks (inc. water parks) for a set number of days. At the moment you can get a 14 day Ultimate for the same price as a 7 day.
  1. Kennedy tickets are a simple one-day entry - no choice with them!

So, once you've decide what tickets you want, you can then go to several websites to compare prices. Also look at the free gifts each site offers - free airboat rides, a Kids Eat Free card etc. I would use one of these sites mentioned on the Dibb. At the top of this page is a yellow banner saying 'purchase tickets' and you can link to the sites from there. Attraction Tickets Direct is reputed to be the best site. And don't forget to go through a cashback site - we're getting almost £90 back!

I wondered about Animal Kingdom but is it similar to Busch Gardens or have I got that wrong? I've heard that Epcot might not be as interesting as other parks for kids my age. Will have a look at Hollywood as haven't really considered there.

We love Epcot and I don't think it's boring for kids at all - mine are almost exactly the same age as yours and they love it. It's just World Showcase (the bit with all the countries in) that can be a bit dull for them, so you coudl always skip that bit. But Soarin' is the best ride in Florida :) We also adore Hollywood Studios and couldn't miss it (Star Tours!!) but lots of people say it's their least favourite park.

Hope that's not overkill with the info - do ask if I haven't made sense :)
