going to Mousses next week

Well thanks to the rave reviews from Mumsnet we have booked a week in Lefkas (taking dd out of school, v naughty) week after next., hurrah.

but i have a couple of qusetions for those who have been.
shoudl I take a buggy? we have a three year old and a five year old and I was hoping not to.

evening meals - are there tavernas close by? the plan(ha ha) is for kids to spend morning in kids clubs (they hated club med ones so I am nervous about this) then sleep in the afternoon with us and stay up late and go out for supper. Is this bonkers? have done greece a lot but pre kids. and never lefkas.

also any other Mousses tips really really appreciated.
very excited, really hoping this actually feels like a holiday.

I've been twice and am going again in two months time so, FWIW, here are my thoughts.

Buggy - good idea, if only for going into Lefkas town. It's nice to while away the evening in town, lots of cafes, tavernas and a central square that kdis can run abou it. If the little one starts to flake you can whack him/her in the buggy instead of having to go home. There are loads of tavernas in town - five minutes drive. There's also a very good taverna at Milos beach - the nearest beach to Mousses - you could walk there (buggy) or drive in a few minutes. Suspect that your kids will find the kids club very different to Club Med. For starters it's much, much smaller - so not so much of a shock to system. Pus, your five year old will be school-savvy by now, so probably more up for hanging out with other kids - so hopefully that will encourage your three year old!
Can't think of any specific tips other than take CD's/Ipod with connector lead as each villa has a stereo - oh, and it's easy to get cash out of cashpoints in town, so we don't take travellers cheques (there's a safe in each villa for keeping money in - but don't think crime much of an issue.). It's really, really chilled out there and the family who run the place are lovely, so you should have a "holiday" in the true sense of the word. Anyway, just yell or cat me if you want more info.

thanks willow. Have just contacted countess dracula for her thoughts since I had worked out she had been there (and she is local to me too). good to hear about the buggy -needed that decision made for me. and the kids clubs, glad they will be more intimate. What about food on site - how is that? must say am very excited. do they do swimming with them in the kids club?

Food on site is nice Greek food plus some kids' bits - plus there's a weekly barbecue that's worth doing. You can get food delivered to your villa or eat out by swimming pool.

No, they don't do swimming with the kids in the club, but they do do water fights.

If you're local to CD, you are local to me - I live minutes away from her. She will confirm that I am the Mousses oracle - she went as a result of my telling her how lovely it was!

mousie · 19/06/2006 18:44

ah well, I have both of you to thank then. will get in touch with you directly too!

def take the buggy - we did and our ds is nearly 4. only used it a couple of times, but mainly a godsend at the airport when he got wingey!

merlot · 20/06/2006 16:21

We came back from Mousses 2 weeks ago - we went on the recommendation of a Mumsnetter - and it was lovely.

There is a book in each appt which gives recommendations of past visitors..we got lots of good ideas from ours. A highlight for us was taking a little motor boat out from Nidri for the day..really quite cheap...worked out about £50 for the day. We have a 2 1/2 year old and a 9 year old and it was a lovely day.

Also Aghios Nikitas is very nice and good for fish in the evening.

Aaah...seems a long time ago now...but it was really relaxing...I hope you have as good as time as we did.
I'm very jealous :)

Mousie - cant remember which appt was which - but there are about 3 which are detached (ours wasnt one of those). I dont think they mention this on the website - but I think if you really like it, pick out the appt you would like for next time!!

willow2 · 23/06/2006 12:05

Just wanted to say have a fab time - hope weather is good and that you enjoy the place as much as we all have.

willow2 · 02/07/2006 23:04

Did you like it?

mousie · 03/07/2006 06:03

oh my god that was the best holiday we have had since having kids - so for five years. we had a really lovely week. totally enjoyed every aspect. kids went into kids club for the mornings, then we lunched and played in the pool - then we all had late afternoon siestas and then headed off to beaches/ into the hills/ tavernas for a long greek evening. watching the sun set in kathismi with our glasses of wine while the kids played on the beach was just one highlight. we kept pinching ourselves because we couldn't believe how nice a time we were having. we didnt feel compromised at all as on other kid- centred holidays. So suffice to say I am going to be on the phone today checking availability for half term next year.
thanks again for all tips. we took a boat from Ligia for the day which was great. All fabulous. when are you off again Willow2??

So glad you had a lovely time Mousie. Can I pick your brains on a couple of things? Are the mossies gone now? They usually spray the lagoon for them in early June, but seem to have left it later this year, so I wondered..... Also, did you notice if non-resident guests were being served at the bar/restaurant? And were any of them also swimming? (ie: their kids)? We are staying nearby this summer, and would like to wander up the road for a drink now and then. Sorry for brief hijack!

mousie · 03/07/2006 11:12

hi
mossies bad in the evening - under the tress mainly. Nothing during the day. I sprayed myself and wore long skirts. Rooms were fine - kept them air conditioned and doors closed so no biting at night.

didn't notice any non mousses guests in the pool or bar - the Simply Rep Simon had his sister over and they were fairly regular features - but didn't notice others. Sure it would be fine if you dropped by for a recce though. Can I help with anything else?
oh yes, i remember someone mentioned that the creche sometimes took kids from neighbouring villas if they had a place - so this suggests pool use must be ok too???

Thanks Mousie!

willow2 · 03/07/2006 12:54

Mousie - so glad you liked it. Another satisfied customer! We're off towards end of August.

Jan - the resort is exclusive to Simply and not supposed to be open to other guests. Have never seen anyone else there - only Simon or friends of Eleni and Andreas. You've stayed there a couple of times - haven't you? If so, Eleni and co probably won't mind you popping in - not sure if it will go down well with other families if they have to fight for a sunlounger though. m Mind you, they're probably all Mumsnetters so they'll know it's you!

mousie · 03/07/2006 13:54

what is august like heat-wise etc... it was baking this last week and we survived fine. i just can't decide whether to go for half term or august next year since i can't really take a week out of school every year, unfortunately. or maybe i can..

OP posts:
willow2 · 03/07/2006 14:35

Dunno - we went last week July first week August last year and it was baking but bearable - seems there's always a bit of a breeeze around there.
