oh oh oh webmum go to Hanover St (easy to find, just off Princes St/George St, over the hill a tad) and there is a whole row of Italian restaurants. the waiters are adorable and love children.

there are also a few nice pubs in Grassmarket and Rose St (im trying to think of places that are central and easy to find for you) also High St (Royal Mile)

and dont forget all these pubs will be no smoking as the no smoking ban in all public places comes into effect here in scotland from this sunday! yippee!

I would really, really, really recommend Centotre on George St- fantastic food and child friendly in a low-key way. Website \link{http://www.centotre.com/\here}

There is a Hard Rock Cafe as well on George Street and of course the cafe in Harvey Nicks - LOL!

Oops Blush - just realised you said no chains!

Enjoy it, webmum- the owners are part of the Valvona and Crolla dynasty, so the ingredients are all authentic- they state which type of mozarella on the bruschetti, that kind of thing :)

oh i could just die over valvona and crolla

yum

just got back and I thought I'd let you know what a winderful time we had!
Edinburgh is a fantastic city, there's so much to do, 3 days only wetted our appetite, we had a brilliant time, and so did the dds, dd1 especially enjoyed the easter festival and Dynamic Earth.

Even the weather has been good overall. We're definitely going back!

Oh and Valvona & Crolla was fantastic, even though the meal was a bit rushed, as our 18-month-old, has recently decided she will not tolerate sitting in a highchair for longer than 5 minutes....Angry

Virgin trains to Glasgow (you could stay overnight - if budget isn't a problem the Grand Central hotel
Is at Central station but there are loads of premier inns, travelodges etc,) then train to Ardrossan and ferry to the beautiful island of Arran. Book in at the Auchrannie hotel with lodges etc and it's amazing child care set up. Arran is known as Scotland in miniature and is awesome! If Auchrannie is full then any hotel/apartments etc would be great as you can use Auchrannie as a day guest. auchrannie.co.uk/
