Have you been to Mousses, Periyali Villas or Lefteris (all Simply Travel)?

I'm trying to book a 2 week holiday for June - we fancy a proper beach holiday, preferably in Greece. Desperate for some sun and laid back living - we haven't been away for two weeks for years. Will have our almost four year old and our four month old baby with us. I've been doing some research on Baby Goes 2 and here on Mumsnet etc and the above places (all with Simply Travel) are recommended, but I've heard negative stuff about Simply Travel since they've been taken over. Does anyone know any more, or can they recommend anywhere else? Our ideal place would be self catering apartments with a pool, near a beach, with a restaurant on site. Preferably something a bit traditional/small scale/not tacky. We stayed in Occakoy in Turkey with Tapestry 18 months ago and that was brilliant, but we'd like to try somewhere new. We're not bothered about organised childcare. YOur help is much appreciated as I can't decide! Also would weather be a bit hit and miss with Mousses - in Lefkas and Periyali in Zakynthos? Lefteris is in Crete so may be a better bet. Thanks!

Can I hijack here for just a second please - Do any Mousses veterans know if there is now horse riding available for kids and if so, where it is? We are staying more or less next door to Mousses (at about an eight the price!!) with Grandparents (hence no need for the childcare bit this time) in July and I wondered if a bit of pony riding might be possible.

cod · 14/03/2006 16:08

CD willow where are you?

cod · 14/03/2006 16:08

link to your gaff please jan

janinlondon · 14/03/2006 16:12

Its this one - we have two of the little houses with a door connecting so grandparents in one and us and DD in the other. DD has already been instructed that when she wakes up in the morning she must go through the connecting door, not up our stairs!! Its not as plush as Mousses but I think it will be okay?

( cheeky i know) is it in shcool hols

janinlondon · 14/03/2006 16:18

They are offering two weeks for the price of one, so we got it for two weeks from July 9 for about £450 each. HUGE price difference! I hope we won't be disappointed. Let me know if you find out anything re horse riding. I know there was talk of it somewhere.......!

cod · 14/03/2006 16:22

yes the prob ofr us is three kids as ever

janinlondon · 14/03/2006 16:26

Cod it might be worth ringing them. We have four adults and one child, and just asked for a "family unit" and they put us in the two adjoining places - no surcharge for the unused beds. Of course that was for early July and Sunvil don't count 9 July as being in peak holiday time.

CountessDracula · 14/03/2006 16:28

looks v nice Jan

I think if you are just a couple with kids though Mousses better as you have restaurant/bar on site

janinlondon · 14/03/2006 16:33

Agree CD. Mousses is all round lovely - though this place is right next door, and I know the owners will let us use the Mousses restaurant/bar/pool!

CountessDracula · 14/03/2006 16:35

Oh I only meant because you can use your baby listening thing but for you obv not an issue if you have your parents.

It does look fab and a lot cheaper.

janinlondon · 14/03/2006 16:36

Oh I see! Yes, you're right. Baby listening a definite advantage at Mousses.

MizZan · 17/03/2006 22:27

we are also considering mousses (in July) but I'm wondering if anyone who's been there can tell me - is there any shady/covered area (like a terrace) outside the houses for the kids to play in? We have a 4 year old and a baby who's likely to be crawling by then, would love to be able to let them play outside in the shade.

thanks in advance...

i'm going in May - am very excited!

Mamboprincess · 29/03/2006 14:57

Janinlondon/Willow2 - You seem to know both Periyali and Mousses well - I went to Periyali Sept 04 and loved it, but most of the reviews seem to favour Mousses for various reasons - I was wondering if there was one set of apartments further away from the pool - more private - some look like they are right next to it and I was hoping for a bit of quiet - what do you think ? Right now, Erato, Thalia, Melpomene and Eliterpe seem free the week I want to go. I'd be really grateful for any knowledge of the place as Simply don't seem to know (yes they have gone downhill....)

janinlondon · 29/03/2006 15:53

You know I can never remember which of the units are which. I didn't find the noise from the pool area a problem, and we were quite close. Also a monitor might not work as well for the further away units. But neither of those things help you, do they! Sorry - Willow may have a better recollection than me of the names!

CountessDracula · 29/03/2006 16:09

Mambo if you call Simply they will tell you.

CountessDracula · 29/03/2006 16:10

None of them are right on the pool
