Help - Does anyone work at the Passport Office at Durham

janeb204 · 23/07/2012 22:30

Im at my wits end...I need to speak to Durham Passport office, I am going on holiday Saturday and my daughters passport renewal is stuck in a backlog at Durham. I will pay for accelerated service but can't get through to ask for it. The general phone number takes hours to be answered, the call back service doesn't work, the 48hr email reply service doesn't reply. Can I drive to Durham and sit and wait. I'm frantic to resolve this...but what can I do? Has anyone got any suggestions of what I can do....apart from cry? Does anyone work there and can tell me something I can DO

We spoke to MP secretary and she said she will keep trying, she told them our departure date, and they said they would call us, but heard nothing.

Just can't understand why this has to be so stressful!

Feenie · 04/08/2014 10:28

Any news, Hello?

Shinyshoes2 · 04/08/2014 10:35

I don't know or understand why there is still a delay
I sent my renewal off the 7th July and less than 3 weeks later it was in my hands

Kelly2008 · 05/08/2014 09:31

I'm in the same boat travel this Saturday still nothing try this number 0151 4716413

contacting the passport office directly worked for us, our one was at Peterborough... two calls, an hour wait each, and the passport is here, after 6 weeks since sent.
Good luck everyone!

I sent off for 1 adult renewal 1adult first and 3 child first passports sent on 2nd July they received on the 7th. Rang last week was told still waiting to be examined. Rang again yesterday the women rang through to Durham and was told 4 of them was with examiner I asked them to mention the person who countersigned the forms was a teacher and if they needed to get in touch with her they would have to contact her on her personal number not works. Within 4 hours had a call from Durham office to let me know they would. Then had a phone call from the examiner today saying they didn't need to contact her and my renewal and the children's were being sent for printing and should be with us in the next few days, but she didn't have my husbands. She then took his details within half an hour she rang him to tell him she was examining his and will receive a letter in the next couple of days to make an appointment for his interview. Hope everybody else manages to sort there's.

I'm in the same situation traveling on the 19th August into my 19th of August and they still say its in the examination process even though my passport was received on June 04th .. really scared I'm going to lose all this money for the trip - my wife and two kids plus me.

Does anyone have a number for Durham other than +44 300 222 0000

Aoibheanny and Isaneil please email your mp as soon as possible. Explain how long you've been waiting, give your date of travel and all the details of your application so barcode, full name and DOB of applicants. Tell them you've phoned the helpline, that you can't get through on the direct numbers etc. I did this last week when I received a letter asking for extra documents - 5 weeks after it allegedly entered the examination process and my MPs PA emailed me back to say they'd phoned up and asked for it to be made a priority. I had to wait for them to receive the document when they did this morning but having just phoned the process team I've been told they've now been issued and will be printed today or tomorrow. If you don't need any further documents you could well find that your application gets magically speeded through once your MP had called them. They have access to a direct number that's not available to the public and seem to be able to get everything moving at a ridiculous speed. Honestly this seems to be helping people who've had no joy with anything else, especially as you've been waiting 9 weeks Isaneil - that's just unacceptable. Just make sure you get the correct MP for your area and I'm sure they'll help you out. Once mine got on my case my stress almost disappeared and I've felt so much better!

aoibheanny · 06/08/2014 20:04

The direct number for Siren is08456015175_during that is.Img did contact my no and they did say it was now priority excuse my spelling it's predictive txt.that number is for durum.so do I think it should get things moving now my no pa has contacted them..no means mp...sorry

aoibheanny · 06/08/2014 20:07

I rang that mum thinking it was Peterborough and they answered straight away.

aoibheanny · 06/08/2014 20:16

Once your MP is on the case things seem to move really quickly. I heard nothing for 5 weeks then the request for this document came last Thursday. I emailed my MP the same day but didn't hear from them until Monday when they let me know that they'd spoken to the examiner and told them to make my case a priority. I got the document to Peterborough at 9:30 this morning (sent Special Delivery) and was phoned by the examiner at 1:15 to double check everything. I phoned 0300 at 4pm and was put through to the progress team who told me the passports have been issued (ie finished being examined) and would be printed very shortly. They told me to contact them tomorrow for a tracking number for delivery. I'm sure if you've heard from your MP you will get things sorted within a few days. Good luck with it.

aoibheanny · 06/08/2014 22:22

I suppose you might be wondering why I am making my Baby application such an issue.considering I have not been waiting as long as some of you.org not a holiday we are going on it's a special visit to see father in law who is not in the best of health and has never met his newborn granddaughter.I just had to mention that because I don't want people thinking i'm trying to jump the que which would be very selfish..

suddenlysix · 06/08/2014 23:25

I sent my 1 year olds first passport off at the same time as these 3 for my step children and that was done in 3 weeks 6 days so there is no good reason for you not to have it back after 4 weeks. I think the most frustrating part is just not knowing what's going on or when it will be done!

aoibheanny · 07/08/2014 10:31

I have just emailed mp and she said she will contact Peterborough.l am so worried something might be wrong with forms and then I will have no time to sort it out...I have an Irish passport and never wrote my passport num as i'm sure it stated on form to write English passport number.I think i'm being over paranoid now.

Missterri2012 · 07/08/2014 12:34

I don't know if this helps anyone but I've found emailing Hm passport office the best way of contact- it's not given me advice on what situation my daughters first passport is standing at, but that it's in the examination process and I can try to contact Hm passport office and to there discretion- see if I can pay to have it sent through quicker- only if it's urgent- they responded allmost immediately to my 7 emails! :/

IsaNeil · 07/08/2014 12:39

My problem is I am now living outside of England, my Father was in the RAF so we moved around so much, I don't have a MP I can contact... is my vacation money lost? - it cost a lot for a family of four.

suddenlysix · 07/08/2014 13:22

Do you have any address here in the UK that you could use? I assume you're getting the passport(s) sent to an overseas address but do you have any relatives in the UK? If so I would suggest that you find the MP for that area and contact them. Explain that you're living abroad but this was your last constituency or just use your relatives address but state that you're currently working abroad. The MP will only need your address so that they can help you, they can't work in behalf of people outside their area but if your relative contacted them in your behalf they would certainly be able to. You don't need to have had any prior contact with your MP, in fact I emailed the wrong MP at first and his secretary kindly let me know who was actually the MP for my area so I was then able to email him. I contacted my MP exactly a week ago and needed to send in a document that I had to order from the General Register Office and this morning I've had the text to say they're being printed. I don't think this would have all happened in a week without the help of an MP. Until my MP got involved u just felt like I was banging my head against a wall and was in a bad way from all the stress. Try this findyourmp.parliament.uk

wasuup2014 · 07/08/2014 15:03

I can only recommend anyone struggling to get through to their passport office and travelling in the next few days or with special family emergencies to try emailing paul pugh his office gets things done asap if needed. Email address easy to obtain of google et al. Give a contact number so they can ring you makes it faster still.

aoibheanny · 08/08/2014 12:55
