suzywong · 05/03/2006 23:14

well i've been up for 2 hours,

firstly why do you think you may be mad? I don't get it

Perth will be high teens to low twenties max, but chilly at night and in the early morning. YOu will need a light jacket and one woolie or light non furry fleece. There will be rain but it will be like a March day in England at the very very worst.

Dunno about hte others

another stinking hot 37 degrees today though

suzywong · 05/03/2006 23:22

it won't rain for more than 2 or 3 days in a row, and if it does that there'll be a public enquiry

RTKangaMummy · 06/03/2006 00:35

I meant mad for swapping our summer for winter

Thanks for the tips SW Smile

SO no swimming then

Do the boats still go over to Rotnest in July/August?

As DS hasn't seen the Quokkas{sp}

RTKangaMummy · 06/03/2006 00:41

Do the TOURIST places stay open during July/August?

OP posts:
Bouj · 06/03/2006 02:07

Cairns will still be hot. Check out the govt weather website - has monthly averages etc

\link{http://www.bom.gov.au/\Bureau of Meteorology}

Bouj · 06/03/2006 02:08

Horrah!

suzywong · 06/03/2006 02:28

BOM, a permanent bookmark in my browser

Yes you will be able to enchant dd with the quokkas, we haven't been yet - really must get round to it. Everthing is open to the tourists I think,

(DH has taken ds1 to Port Beach this morning, do you remember the beach just north of Freo)

eidsvold · 06/03/2006 04:59

ULURU - warm during day - bloody cold at night.

Cairns - pleasant and it will be dry season - so no fear of cyclones or anything like that. Best time to go actually.

GandT · 06/03/2006 05:46

Sydney will be chilly but the days tend to be bright and sunny

tilbatilba · 06/03/2006 06:26

Yes Melbourne will be cold but always beautiful. Are you interested in skiing? July August best months and Falls Creek and Mt Hotham both fabulous for families. The plus is very few tourists about!

RTKangaMummy · 06/03/2006 23:51

Thanks guys Smile

We are going to SYD to visit friends who have returned to SYD after living in UK

And MEL is to visit with my birth dad {I was adopted as a baby ~ he is an Aussie}

I have been looking at brochures today and am rather taken with WHitsunday Islands. Smile

DH is thinking about DARWIN too as we haven't been there before

Is it worth it?

Why? what is there?

Which is best airline for internal travel ~ quantas or virgin blue?

We went with quantas the 1st time and singapore airlines last time

we will deffo be flying with singapore airlines over there

But which would you use for internals????????

Thank you guys Smile

No sorry SW I don't remember it?

Are the jellyfish going to be in river in august?

No we won't be skiing

SmileSmileSmile

OP posts:
RTKangaMummy · 06/03/2006 23:54

ooooooooooooooooops sorry DH says the internal flights were with

ANSAT or ANNSETT

Smile
OP posts:
RTKangaMummy · 06/03/2006 23:54

But that was in 1994 so a long tome ago Smile

OP posts:
suzywong · 06/03/2006 23:56

just go with the cheapest for internal flights, not a vast deal of difference between them

jellyfish in the river all year round, but harmless, ds1 pokes them with sticks and ds2 flings them

RTKangaMummy · 07/03/2006 00:14

Thanks Smile

I asked cos DS would be facinated to see them all

The river was full of them when we there before but as that was at Easter didn't know if it was seasonal

Smile

Do you have any recomendations to ask the travel agent to look out for, please Smile

OP posts:
suzywong · 07/03/2006 00:31

recommendations of what?

eidsvold · 07/03/2006 05:00

ansett no longer in operation - you can choose virgin blue/qanta or jet star.... try booking them online might be easier and cheaper. We did that when we travelled from UK to Aus - we booked out internal flights with virgin blue online - flew brissy to syd.

Whitsundays is fab - but if you are going to Carins can see the reef etc whilst there as well as rainforest....

box jelly fish are not as prevalent during winter...

Accommodation can also be booked on line - if you want to cut out travel agent...

hannahsaunt · 07/03/2006 09:16

We have found \link{http://www.flightcentre.com.au\this site} to be good for getting the cheapest flights etc. You get to compare all the cheap flights together and so you can do Virgin Blue out and Jetstar back for example. We just got a really good deal on hire cars for Sydney next month. HTH

RTKangaMummy · 08/03/2006 00:32

Thanks guys Smile

SW I meant recommendations for airlines for internal flights Smile

Because of all the problems with Virgin when we went to California last year, I want to use a travel agent so they can be responsible for all the problems

We have quite a good independant one in the town that organized our "round the world" trip in 2002

So they can have all the hassle and all the time I was spending on the phone to call centres etc.

We are getting very excited about returning to Australia Smile

OP posts:
eidsvold · 08/03/2006 04:16

flight centre as linked by hannahs aunt are fab - they have organised so much for us both in the Uk and here in Aus.

suzywong · 08/03/2006 05:04

Branches of The Flight Centre over hear have a life size statue of a pilot outside who looks like Princess Anne's husband

Gives me the heebiejeebies

dejags · 08/03/2006 06:20

RTKM... we'll be there at the same time.

Have you got confirmed dates?

we fly into Mel on 25th July, spend a week there, then fly to Cairns and spend two weeks there and driving down toward Sydney. We'll probably fly from Brisbane to Sydney on 18th June for a week before we fly to China.

Let me know where you'll be - you've been a fantastic support on my RTW thread and would love to meetup.

dejags · 08/03/2006 06:26

Oh - I have done quite a lot of checking into flights - Jet Star and Virgin Blue seem like the way to go.

Does anybody know if it's possible to fly from Melbourne to Uluru to Cairns.

suzywong · 08/03/2006 06:27

ahem, dejags
I notice that Perth is not on your list of destinations. Surely some mistake?
